Why not continue with Stokes at 3? He won a game against India playing there. Also, is it really necessary to play all of Vince, Salt, Crawley and Malan in the same line-up. Too many openers in there!!!
This is England we're talking about here.

If I was picking my own side it'd look quite different:

1. :eng: :bat: Alex Hales (I think this is the perfect time to see if he can step up and be a big part of a team in adversity)
2. :eng: :bat: Sam Hain (debut)
3. :eng: :bat: Dawid Malan
4. :eng: :ar: Ben Stokes :c:
5. :eng: :bat: Dan Lawrence (debut)
6. :eng: :ar: Will Jacks (debut)
7. :eng: :ar: Jordan Thompson (debut)
8. :eng: :ar: Liam Dawson
9. :eng: :bwl: Ollie Robinson (debut)
10. :eng: :bwl: Saqib Mahmood
11. :eng: :bwl: Matt Parkinson

I would rather have Vince to open and Duckett batting at 5. The last time I remember, Duckett was really handy batting in the middle order for England averaging 40 something.

Vince :bat:
Crawley :bat:
Stokes :ar: :c:
Malan :bat:
Duckett :wkb:
Lawrence :ar:
Gregory :ar:
Overton :ar:
Mahmood :bwl:
Briggs :bwl:
Ball :bwl:

Looks a decent line-up in my view. We can swap Stokes and Malan and it might even look stronger.

Pakistan will not get a better opportunity than this to win their first ODI series in England since 1974!

Dawson is isolating. And, I believe, Robinson is after being a close contact of a Tom Clark who tested positive.

Oh dear. And we're canning all of our covid measures in a fortnight

Cook, Stoneman, Denly, Bairstow, Ed Smith, Bess (he's been Yorkshire's #6 for half the county season), Stevens

The top seven for the first test against India when the team go down with Covid, while a full house at a Trent Bridge watches on.

I wanna have whatever the selectors are on because they thought picking Jake Ball was a good idea after he had one good game in the Blast against the Bears. Sam Hain robbed. James Vince will once again score a 30 and knick one off to slip, so whatever.

I unironically do want them to throw Stevo a debut

Also, Stuart Broad made the point that he and Jimmy could have been called in, à la Daniel Vettori's last Test
I didn't get the relevance.

I don't really rate Jake Ball but he was with the ODI sides all winter so it's hardly a surprise he's involved.

I've said before, when talking about Hain: he's not taken his chances in A-sides or inter squad matches as well as others (Salt scored a blistering century last year in a squad match) and, unlike every other batsman in both the original and replacement squad, he's never played franchise cricket. He was only picked up for The Hundred as a wildcard. When you look at the players who have come into the side in the last few years it's not because they've done well in the Royal London Cup it's usually following spells in the PSL or BBL.

Still, I'd sooner see him than Vince but I don't know if he'd be seen as an international opener that England would want and there's other, more established players, to bat at 3.

If anyone who deserves a farewell in ODI cricket in front of home fans it's Liam Plunkett.

Sam Hain would work well as a No. 3, similar to Joe Root in a sense. Hell, he bats in the same position as Root does in County Cricket.

I don't think England necessarily want a like-for-like Joe Root replacement when Stokes (or Malan) can perform a similar role but also play a more big hitting role to maintain the momentum that Roy and Bairstow often give England. He got 99 from 52 a couple of matches ago.

I'm Warwickshire fan so I'd like to see Hain get a chance. There's plenty of talk about him trying to increase his strike rate this season in the Blast, so I expect he's got the message of what is expected to break through.
