Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

Aamer is a superstar in the making and he's just what Pakistan needed. Pakistan really have a good chance here if they can bowl out Australia before 250 then bat out the 2nd day without losing too many wickets and then push on in the 3rd day and declare with a decent lead. Should be a cracker of a game this.

Interestingly poised Test match, great fightback from Pakistan who have long had the knack of being fantastic at times. If they had greater consistency they could be one of the best sides in the World. Little bit surprised by the aussie selections, in particular Watson opening (in ODIs maybe, not in Tests) and the keeper who is making his Test debut, although his ODI record is better than I thought it would be - and not even boosted by lots of not outs.

He has played over half his ODIs against England, that explains the good average! :laugh

One thing which annoyed me about the commentary was how the commentators kept harping on about Ponting's poor record at Lords, of course they didnt mention that Tendulkar has an equally poor record there too, i dont think he has ever scored 50 there in a test match, they made out like Punter was the only player to not make runs there. Not so. Its just one ground. I dont recall Lara ever doing much at Lords either.

Sadly sporting commentators do get their teeth into one thing and overlook others. BBC were b'tching about the Dutch tactics on Sunday, barely mentioned the OTT reactions of the Spanish and their counter-tactic of trying to reduce Holland in numbers.

10,000+ runs in Tests - records at Lords

Tendulkar : 7 inns, 149 runs @ 21.29 (HS 37)
Ponting : 7 inns, 135 runs @ 19.29 (HS 42)
Lara : 6 inns, 126 runs @ 21.00 (HS 54)
Dravid : 5 inns, 215 runs @ 43.00 (HS 95)
Border : 9 inns, 503 runs @ 100.60 (HS 196)
Kallis : 3 inns, 20 runs @ 6.67 (HS 13)
Gavaskar : 10 inns, 340 runs @ 34.00 (HS 59)

Border is boosted by four not outs which near enough double his average, only he and Dravid of the 10,000+ runs club have scored more than 60 at Lords in a Test match

No wonder Aussies here know all about Dogs and their masters. John Howard got elected the pm there and we all know who held his leash ;).

Geez when are we going to sort these collapses, occurring far too often. And always seems to be a good start by the top order but not much else from the rest.

Asif vs North was the best bit of cricket I have seen all year.

I would 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th that if I could. It was perfect bowling, and I am a massive fan of the Pakistan seam attack, I reckon it's massively underated! Asif is a very wiley good bowler, he sets people up exactly like he did to North, and has a very strange action in which it looks like he uses his whole hand to bowl, not just the two fingers.

Always a fan of of Umar Gul and think he has a fantastic yorker, if one their spinners can do consistently well a la Kaneria today then they are well set with a strong bowling attack.

There is a Pakistani bowler who I can't quite remember the name of but was always in the 4 Pak quicks, with the other 3 being Asif, Gul, Ahktar and ..., '...' being the guy I can't remember.

Nobody mentioned it before, but Ponting reached yesterday 11.954 Test runs. He passed Lara with a single. After reaching that the next ball he was out against Aamer.

A great player, he is Ponting. May he score many runs in the upcoming Test series.

North must be culled. I like him a lot, but he just doesn't hold the line-up together at all. And lmao at the people who said Paine's slow scoring was suited to test cricket. Guess he wasn't batting slow enough in ODI's, he took it to a whole new leve :laugh

The premier Australian batsmen had trouble with the ball, so you can't blame really a debutant like Paine. He tried what he could, but eventually he had to go. I am sure next match, where the conditions will be different, he will show a better innings.

Also I've got a feeling that this will be a low scoring match, so I am expecting same kind of performances from the Australian bowling as the Pakistani bowling did.

Nah, they only mentioned it on the coverage/on the Cricinfo commentary/in the Cricinfo article. And I didn't realise you could get a decimal amount of runs.

I knew this would happen, I know it's only Paine's first innings, but it's not even like he attempted to score any runs at all, I realise that most batsman need to play themselves in, but there was no pressure placed back on the bowlers. People were always going to say that Paine's slow scoring would suit him in test cricket, but he's just getting bogged down lately. Wade or Hartley would at least show some fight, Wade's Victoria was in a similar position as Australia in the Shield final this year, ended up combining with John Hastings and made 96.

Can Hussey and Dougeh make a 100 run partnership? :D Clarke tweeted that Doug the Rug is good for a 50 :)

It's not good to judge someone on one innings. I am sure he will come good.

If Hussey takes responsibility and takes the strike as much as possible I can see him building a partnership.

I meant that nobody mentioned it in the thread about Ponting. And in some countries they use the '.' to address the number thousand.
