Pakistan v Australia in England, June-July 2010

I didn't watch a single ball live but just looking at scorecard its just SUPERB!.

Looks like Pakistan's batsmen finally will backup what their bowlers have done. We need some serious addressing with that batting lineup, don't know what the problem is but everyone seems to be failing of late bar Kaitch.

It happens every few years, even NZ had us on the ropes in a test on day 1 in 2000, 5/27, Eng had us gone by lunch in the 97 Ashes too 8/70, even Sachin/Lara etc have struggled in these types of Eng/NZ conditions.

You can add Kandy 2004, SCG 2010, Kingston 08 (windies had AUS 17/5 or something @ one stage).

No need to fret though for us Aussies, how many insane bowling days are there in a year of test cricket?? Not that many, sometimes the bowlers have their day and you just have to live with it. Get through it, and you can bet flat batting days await in the future.

True. But this is sort of problem with test cricket this decade, more of the conditons that have been seen in these first two tests have disappeared worldwide. In the 70, 80s, 90s they where around fairly often - batsmen where tested & only to real top-bats survived againts the quality pace.

I'm not going to panic and overreact to this. I think given the conditions and the quality of bowling this kind of score was bound to happen TBH. What's annoying me more is that we couldn't do the same with the ball.

WTF Mitchell Johnson, he never looks convincing to me with the ball. Always get the feeling he's gonna be leaking runs to the opposition and wastes overs by bowling with the scrambled seam when there's conventional swing on offer.

Nothing unusual there mate. I like Johnson but he's never going to win any technique contests. And he needs to find a way to build pressure on batsmen.

South Africa couldnt beat us with a 4 man pace attack, nor could they beat Eng in Eng, so they didnt have it right at all. I'm not sure their set up is the best example for your argument War, but all credit to you though, i do enjoy your posts mate.

Ha thats sir. You & the others AUS regular posters aussie1st, slifer, angryangy) are not too bad yourself :thumbs

South Africa in the 90s & early 2000s played without those spinner a lot yes & didn't win in Australia & England most famously. They couldn't beat Australia mainly because of the presence of Shane Warne, since many times i can remember (im sure you can more vividly than me) Donald/Pollock & co would run through the AUS top-order, but their batsmen (most famously Cullinan) just couldn't deal with Warne.

The three series they lost to England in 1994, 98, 2003 was a mixture of alot of things. In 1994 England where lucky to draw that series, SA made a few mistakes. In 1998 that was fluke series win i remember that vividly, i still don't know how England managed to win that series 2-1, since that same England team the next year in 1999 lost to New Zealand are where herald the worst test team on the planet. While in 2003 it was a South African & English teams in transitions battling that drew 2-2.

But they managed to win in India & PAK though in the 90s thanks to their past pace attack though which is something AUS up until 2004 couldn't do. Overall that SA team was great, definately superior to the ones they have now that eventually won in England & AUS in 2008. If AUS wasn't that strong in the 90s they would have been the best team in the world during the 90s.

^ The Oval 2009 and Headingley 2nd Innings 2009 might disagree with you

Headingley no.

The Oval yes. But you can't expect the tactic to be successfull all the time. Just like an actual top quality spinner wont always run through an opposition on a wearing 4th/5th day pitch when he gets a chance. But they will more often than not - which is what the pace attack would do once all are in top form.

If Pakistan inflict an innings defeat on Australia, then it will be the first time in like 12 years that Australia has lost by an innings.

Now that would be impressive. But first we need a lead of say 300+, which I think with both Umars, Malik (crappy batsman), and Kamran to come, can be done.

200+ lead is a minimum though.

Just knew we wouldnt bowl well, we are so inexperienced in these conditions, it was obvious. Right thrashing ahead for sure, oh well.

don't go overboard just yet.... we are at 143/3 and there is always a good chance that we can get bundled out for 200.....

i won't bet on anything unless and until the last bowl is bowled. Having sit through the Sri Lanka tour, NewZealand and SCG... haven't we learnt anything?

Somebody needs to stand up in the 2nd innings, and I will be bitterly disappointed if it's not Ponting, Watson or Clarke. If we can make Pakistan bat again, then anything can happen.

I am not going to say big things, for me such sort of bowling is as joyful as a victory yet if Pakistan manage to win it will be WOW.

This is Australia's lowest score in 54 years . Also this is first time in this millennium that none of top 6 Australian batsmen could cross 20 :eek:. Only if Pakistan could have batsmen to back up our deadly bowling attack, we could be world beaters. Although I don't like Imran Farhat, atleast he is trying to stay out there with all his limitations as an opener. Younis will definitely be back at number 3 against England. We should stick with Umar Amin as he looks pretty solid for a pakstani Batsman :D. Our bowling is the best in the world especially with Umar Gul finally learning how to ball in test cricket. Aamer and Asif are the most potent new ball pairing in the world atm. A victory here would bode well for future of Pakistan Cricket but there is still a long way to go before our team can put the Sydney ghosts to rest.
