Pakistan vs England Jul-Aug-Sep 2010

Finally Pakistan puts up a fight. These changes did good to the team and gave them some confidence. The new additions scored 119 runs and took 5 wickets which isn't all that bad but the top and lower order still need to improve. With Ali and Yousuf the middle order looks a bit more settled.

So England could be 6/3 tomorrow with Cook expected to go early and Anderson being a night watchman.

Excellent.

Then Trott will score a few, Kim Possible will get out to someone, and we have Morgan and Prior to contend with.

Tough day ahead, but I think Pakistan are in front to win the game.

Too early to tell. In my opinion batting in the last innings already negates the 72 run lead. So if England score anything above 300, Pakistan will find it quite tough.

Very firm grasp of reality as usual, Insomniac :p.

300? Good lord, if they even score 160 lead we're doomed for failure
I didn't mean 300 lead... if England make 300 we will have to chase 230 odd. With Yousuf and Hameed, there is an outside chance to get over the finish line with a finger nail....

Feel for Ali, he looks a like a future rare TEST gem unearthed by Pakistan. WellI feel confident :D

That's what we said about Yasir Hameed, Misbah-ul-Haq (later), Hasan Raza, Taufeeq Umar, Asim Kamal, Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat (well it was said at one point), Mohammad Sami, Sohail Tanvir, Nasir Jamshed, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Shoaib Malik, and Shabbir Ahmed.

This match is very evenly poised. Pakistan had to get a lead of over a hundred to really put pressure on England. There were some soft dismissals especially that of Yousaf and Umar Akmal. Kamran Akmal played like garbage again. I just hope he does not drop any more catches today :upray. Saeed Ajmal should be more effective than in the first innings. He is a very intelligent bowler and I am sure he would have worked a tactic against the sweeping strategy adopted by the English.

I saw Ajmal hit 70mph on the gun today! Toss in a few more of those more often and he might get a lot of lbws, especially to the sweepers

^That might be a good way to counter sweeping but I thought he was bowling to leg sidish in the first innings. He needs to pitch the bowl closer to off stumps and give it a little more loop to fool the batsmen. To the right handers he can bowl his doosras that would be lot trickier to sweep.

Still think England are going to win, but I hope Pakistan does.

Same with me. Pakistan have a prime opportunity to really take control and press for a win but can't shake the feeling that they're going to stuff it up someway or another whether it be Kamran dropping every catch to come his way, letting England post a huge score or a batting collapse in the 4th innings. Hope Pakistan prove me wrong.

Pakistan look pretty solid this game. They're not getting there by short bursts, but by grinding it out. They dominated the first innings and fielded well. England coming back after the collapse is more credit to them than Pakistan being off the pace; good teams will keep taking advantage of opportunities, even after you've mauled them.

In the second innings, maybe a better side could have won the game with the bat then and there, but Pakistan certainly didn't throw it in and they're still well in front as a result.

However, the job is only half done; can they keep up the intensity? I'd be willing to bet they can. If they do, then even Insomniac's brand of optimism doesn't seem so far fetched.
