Pakistan vs England Jul-Aug-Sep 2010

pakistan shouldn't fart around with the field too much today trying to get anderson on strike. Cook's form makes him a real target in these conditions and it's always nice to pouch the batsman first when there's a nightwatchman. stops the opposition getting a settled a partnership ticking.

Pakistan's batting was exceptionally good and i personally thought that Yousuf should have got the chance to play for Pakistan as he is a world class player!

Cook living life on the edge. This is the situation for Cook to get some runs.

Cook has looked much more impressive this morning though, has to be said. His movements seem to be more fluent, he's picking his shots, leaving the ball outside off-stump and when he does go at the ball, he goes hard at it. Century here and he'll gain some serious confidence and will secure his place for a while.

Grinding out a lead is the way to go, 45 in front with two down at lunch. I'd like to say well played Cook, but I gather that would be untrue.

I think England need to post at least 225-250 as a target. If the batsmen don't throw their wickets away from here on in then we should post a demanding total, anything we can get with eight wickets in hand from 45 in front should at least test Pakistan in a chase. It shows the value of seeing off the new ball, and if England negate the most threatening bowler then they should be ok - a tactic employed against windies in 2000 by seeing off Walsh and Ambrose then taking easier runs off the rest.

Wngland gonna win this one, and Cook what an marvellously timed innings, just at the right moment. Well played lad.:)

Good timing for Cook indeed. Failure in this innings would almost certainly have put doubt in the selectors minds whether to include him in the Ashes but this has probably booked his ticket for Australia. Let's just hope he keeps it up.

Well played Cook.

Seriously good innings and all of a sudden he looks fluent without those big flaws in his technique.

Called a Cook century at half 11 this morning, and he's delivered. Superb innings. Given the pressure on his career and the pressure of the match situation this has been a fine knock. Hilarious way to get to a century too. Asif WAC.

His technique isn't being tested. The flaws come from trying to adjust against the moving ball and it's simply not moving out there today. Maybe if it starts to reverse we will see some of that, but otherwise the conditions have gotten a bit dull.

Of course, if he'd been caught on 23, it would be a stark contrast, as it could also have been considered a streaky 23.

Indeed, but he's taken the chance. I don't think anyone is saying his problems are over, but he's got a hundred, and in pretty good style.

I am getting fed up with Sky's over-analysis of Trott's strike rate. It's the 3rd innings half way through the half-day. Get. Over. It.

Even if he bats at this rate, if he stays in we could have a massive lead post-lunch tomorrow. It's not as though we're losing time to weather, or are likely to.

Cook gone now, important runs for him and England. Another ugly dismissal though.
