Pakistan vs New Zealand @ UAE 2009

I actually feel Oram is much more of a test player, rather than a OD player.
I know he has retired from tests, but I just feel he has done much more for me in the longer version of the game.
He averages 12 more with the bat, an has a economy rate of under 2.5, and with Bond back at the other end you never know what sort of pressure that can build along with Vettori.

Agree with irottev's statement that we are a small country, so when injuries do hit us, it hurts us a lot more than the likes of India and Australia. So when we lose those key players the likes of Ryder and Mills, those positions are hard to fill.

Our domestic competition is probably one of the weakest out of the big 8 countries, ahead of WI and maybe SL?

I'm just looking for Dan to win the toss, get a good total on the board and we should be able to defend it with three of the top five ODI bowlers in the world.

Taylor probably needs to up his consistency, as he has proven he is a world class player. But hardly ever can keep up some great form for a whole series.

McCullum simply needs to get his act together. Move him down the order where a 20 might actually win you the game.
The only way a 20-30 will win you a game up the top is if you are chasing under 100... which is very unlikely.
Down the order if we require 8-10 an over of the last 5 with a batting power play and someone can get 30 off not many it will win you the game.

I would even like to see, McCullum open the batting when we are batting first, but when we are chasing put him down the order so he can take us home if needed.

I would go the direct opposite to that, the guy has no clue on how to setup a total but when chasing a target he does play better. In fact I would only ever consider opening with him if we are chasing over 300 on a very flat track.

I'm in agreeance with Ari here, McCullum is a lost sheep when trying to setup a target. I can only remember one innings when opening where he actually scored something decent (a 96 against Australia). Most of his opeing success has come batting second. If we could get our order looking something like this we might be set:

1.Ryder
2.Guptill
3.Broom/Watling
4.Taylor
5.Elliott
6.Vettori
7.McCullum
8.Oram/Franklin

I still think Broom needs to be given a decent chance.

Howsie added 2 Minutes and 2 Seconds later...

He was a good test player, but he was never really world class. For a short time in one day cricket Oram was one of the best players in the world. He was so destructive from the end of 2005, till the world cup in 2007.

Hope Southee doesn't get dropped, he bowled just as well as Bond if not better.

Worst. Nickname. Ever

Agreed, its not the most creative nickname, sounds like a 2 years old child made it up.

If you want to be accurate his nickname should be

Fail Fail Fail Boom Fail Fail Fail Fail Boom
