The guy got records man.
he got the fastest 100 and has hit 253 sixes (Still more to come) so thats why they call him boom boom.
..has Flintoff got any records?
and he is better T20 player then Flintoff

His fastest hundred was a decade ago, for every 50 Afridi makes he will have 20 failures. He is only a decent bowler but could not walk onto any decent team as a batsman (AUS IND SA ENG).

Also he is completely useless in Test cricket which is the ultimate format.

Afridi has no match what so ever,on his day he can be a nightmare for any of the world's best bowler and bowling,I think I don't want to say much everybody knows unless someone just closes his eyes when he bowl a stunner.
How many time he have to prove that he can do wonders, though he bat well in ODIs after a long time but now he is a bowling all rounder so its not cost much to Pakistan now.

:doh he average is 37.40 in Test (higher then Flintoff) and got 5 100s in just 26 matchs.
he retire from it because he didn't like it..he should have just played test cricket.
he is more of a ODI and T20 player...Test sucks anyway.

There is no ODI team in which he can not bat, reason?
because he is such a batsman that as long as he remain on the pitch opponents are always in the state of trouble.

Just looked at Afridi's stats, and man is he overrated.
Didn't have the greatest test career, which is the ultimate format of the game.
Ok he can slog the ball, but that is more to do with hand eye coordination than to do with technique.
In his ODI bowling he has an all right economy rate and average bowling average.
But an average of just 23.3 in ODI cricket in 286 matches is incredible poor if someone wants to call you a great all rounder...

In conclusion, he is one of the best hitters of the ball, but is way to inconsistent. Also his bowling is a bit of a wild card, and this is also due to a lack of consistency.
You can not call this guy a great all rounder.

He is never overrated, stats never shows every thing about you.
he is a inconsistent batsman as he starts working on his bowling more then his batting but for his bowling who mad will say he is inconsistent.

but he is improving now.. he was poor for long time but he is getting better now.
the way he played in the last was amazing.
he bowl and bat well.

he actually won Pakistan a world cup. End of discussion

Well let's be fair here, he was an inconsistant batsmen long before his bowling started to improve.

Howsie added 1 Minutes and 59 Seconds later...

Agreed, its not the most creative nickname, sounds like a 2 years old child made it up.

If you want to be accurate his nickname should be

Fail Fail Fail Boom Fail Fail Fail Fail Boom

Yeah, and it irks me so much when I hear commentators say it.
