Pakistani Tour of New Zealand, Dec-Feb 2010/11

Normal starts here for our domestic matches are 10.30am, no matches have ever started here at 9am IIRC.

After xmas it starts getting dark around 7pm. (ATM it's light until around 8pm)
So when they start matches at midday, they're due to finish at 7pm which is alright, but because it's very rare these days for teams to get through their 90 overs in the right time, they go into that extra half an hour, and that's when it starts getting dark.

10:30 would still be better than the noon -12:30 starts they had last summer

Yeah, 10.30 starts are the best, then they're due to finish at 5.30, plus if needed the extra half and hour, so the latest they can finish is 6, which in the summer here is always going to be light.

The Pakistan ones are due to start at 11.00, so there shouldn't be any problem with light.

NZ cricket are getting real desperate for selling tickets for this tour. You go to their website and theres an ad saying 'It's the only international cricket for a very long time'. They are going to do it tough this summer, the HRV crowds haven't been as high as last year. And the current situation with the Black Caps I don't know how many people will go to the Pakistan games.

Also there are a lot of people who boycott Pakistan cricket to begin with. So that won't help the cause either

They dont help themselves by having only 2 games in Auckland, which has 1/4 of the population of NZ, and by far the biggest population of Pakistani supporters in the country.

The thing is that cricket supporters don't seem to go to matches in Auckland. But they should probably have had 2 ODIs here...

Actually they do, it just looks like they don't as our stadium holds 50,000 people, while everywhere else bar Wellington and Christchurch only hold like 10,000.

I remember the Pakistan test in Napier last time, there was literally about 500 people in the ground for one of the days.

In terms of ratio of tickets sold to population, Auckland is less than most places which is what I think you're getting at, but they'd still sell more tickets here purely because of the large population.

I'm fine with 1 ODI and T20 though, the T20 may be get sold out, but I don't think the ODI will.

Why the heck is there 3 twenty20s anyway?? NZ cricket seriously, I know they need the money but that is overkill. There should be no twenty20 or one if you have to. And why one extra ODI thats pretty ridiculous, don't you have odd numbered games so you don't get drawn series??

At least one will more than likely be abandoned, but yeah, a 3 - 3 series draw would be pretty BS.

If they are going to have 6 they may as well go all out there and have 7. But I feel this summer could get extremely boring playing Pakistan for so long, its a shame we couldn't have 2 countries tour because of the world cup.

i know its small but if we are going to have non crowd pulling teams touring then lets take a test to pukekura park in new plymouth the ground would be packed all the time and a great ground to play on.
bigger teams bigger venues but i think for the lower teams pukekura park would be a great test venue

I agree and disagree with that.

I think for tests and T20 matches you play them in the main centers.
With T20s you want the money of large stadium crowds, while for a place like Auckland through share population you're still going to get a larger crowd than somewhere like Napier who usually have a test when we have two countries tour here, even if in terms of population Napier get a bigger crowd. (If you get that)
Also because of the lack of tests (only two this summer), they're 90% of the time going to go to the Basin and Seddon, because they're the two premier grounds. Then after that you have McLean Park and University Oval, and it's unlikely we're going to go beyond four test matches in the summer.

I don't really mind ODIs going to smaller centers like Queenstown, BoP, Taranaki, Manawatu etc. because we're having six against one team.

Because Hamilton and Wellington are getting a test each, I wouldn't of given either of them an ODI, and then you could have one in two other decent sized centers, like you're saying.

Like Wellington are getting three of the 11 matches, which I don't really agree with, I'd cap the max amount of matches for any city at two here.

very true very true.
evan though pukekura gets the t20 finals when cd gets to host them i know an international t20 would never b played there due to the size and fair enough to.
i do feel though it would make a good test venue and if u were to play odis there like u say it would be a massive scoring game which would b great to watch.
After all the ground is rated 1 of the best in the world to watch cricket at lets take advantage

It's nicer playing a test in a ground with a grass bank that is nicely packed than in a metal stadium with heaps of empty seats. It's a much better atmosphere and a throwback to the old days of cricket. We're really one of the only places where you can play tests in such an atmosphere and that's why they tend to do it I think
