PC version - Codies Reply to my mail

Seriously, they need to take some risk like last time. AC09 was popular because of the PC version. They wasted their money in buying Securom license.
I just need a PC game and that's it.

How do you know the PC version was the most popular? Do you have any actual data to back up your claim? I don't think Codies business model revolves around pleasing you.

That's nice they take the risk & some SOB's get to pirate the game & poor developers lose their jobs , while the shareholders bear the brunt of the loss.

They took a lot of risk by releasing the game for PC the last time , now its time to milk the unsuspecting crowd of the console users. (what can i say Codies gotta cut their losses from the last time)

Its best that all those who pirate game start saving money for some real games otherwise the quality of PC games will continue to dip & PC games will start vanishing off the shelves altogether.

(I dunno why, today im angry like hell, I need to kick a cat or something)

On the contrary. I seem to remember someone posting a screenshot from a site documenting the sales of AC09 on different platforms. It went *something* like this (the console figures might be wrong):

PS3 - 0.20 milllion (200,000)
360 - 0.20 million
PC - 0.00 million

Now obviously that doesn't mean it sold zero copies on PC, but just not enough to register, which would mean something like < 5000 copies.

Mega Fail !!!

PS3 games have never been pirated so I wonder where you saw those pirated games ? :noway
.

Technically you are wrong you could have said no cricket game as ps3 was modded by pirates but sony were clever and quick in releasing a firmware update that did not allow it to be modded

Yup you are quite right i bet there much more games installed on pc's than combined ps3 and xbox but sadly most of them were pirated
also what were they thinking when they bought securom licencee it did nothing but become a blockage to modding .
pirates could play online easily and thats why it lost on sales

codies should know that theres been an invention of a thing called the CD KEY(about 5 yrs ago) it was wven on c05

I said because people many were very desperate about modding AC09. Sales doesn't show anything. Piracy was higher than the actual sale of the PC version.

CD key wouldn't have made any difference..

If Codies really wanted to release PC version then should release only at steam but I am afraid that will get pirated too.

So how can you say that AC09 was popular on PC without making any profit comparing to PS3? Yes, AC09 was popular because of modding but what the point of being popular when there is no profit and only loss?

PC version provided them free promotion. Many people visit planet cricket regarding their PC version queries.

Actually no , you dont know scat about PS3 modding . The PS3 was shown to run unauthorized third party code & proof of concept by Geohot but it was never shown to be running a pirated game.

The price of AC09 was just Rs 500(in India),anyone who owns a PC that can run AC09 can surely shell out 500bucks and buy the original one instead of a pirated one.

The sales of AC09 on PC were really disappointing,so the decision by codies is very much right.

And as far as dumping the PC platform is concerned, that should not happen because many people including me cannot play their favourite sports game

The stats were from vgchartz.com. They don't track sales made through Steam and other digital distribution channels. But even that is likely to be insignificant.

Codemasters is not a small, unknown publisher that they would need any publicity they can get.

Yup those are the numbers I have seen from a few different sources. Estimated at around 200-250 k sales on each console with the PC version selling less than 20k copies.

I am glad they are leaving out PC and I hope they do not release it at that bullshit price in India again. If you cannot afford to pay full price for the game like the rest of the world, you do not deserve to have it.

Mark Mark, everything you said is true, except for the India pricing fact. Its been said time and again, the only way to fight Piracy is by setting low prices in markets like India where piracy is rampant, and I think it was a brilliant move on Codemasters (and Rockstars) part. I don't think it was a matter of "cannot afford to pay for full price of the game", more like "Hey we aren't making any sales anyways. At least we'll sell a few hundred or thousand copies by pricing it lower". People get educated like this. Its the only way, and its working already.

Pricing products differently in different markets is a known strategy, and used almost in every industry, not just the gaming one. We get loads of stuff at higher prices here in India (like cell phones, for instance) than abroad, because the companies know they can milk money out of this market, whereas they are much cheaper in US.

I'm going to set out tomorrow or day after and buy myself a copy of AC09, and GTA IV. I'll try and ask the sales person what the sales on it (and GTA IV) have been like.
