Hello and welcome to the first day of the long waited PlanetCricket Ashes II. Australia did the job in England in 2009, winning the series 4-1, and we are at a steaming hot Gabba for the return series today.

First, the two teams:

Australia

1. Simon Katich
2. timchrist984
3. hedger_14
4. Hamza2000
5. swacker
6. Hooper (c)
7. Marcus North
8. MaD
9. Ryan Harris
10. mohsinhbk
11. Doug Bollinger

England

1. Skater (c)
2. Manly
3. Pakistani Army
4. westindies2007
5. Bevab
6. treva
7. Highlander999 (wk)
8. Dipak
9. The Author
10. Near
11. farhans

A decent number of players have managed to keep their places in the side from the 2009 series. Most notably, Hooper has not only kept his place but ousted his friend WORLD CHAMPIONS as Australian captain.

England captain Skater called heads at the toss and won, electing to bat first. Let's get down to the action.

0.5 overs: FOUR! A great signal of intent from Skater who swats a loose ball from Hamza2000 square to the boundary for four.

21.5: DROPPED! Ryan Harris stands in disbelief as the close-in fielder drops a sharp chance. England 76 for 0.

26.6: LUNCH, DAY 1. An excellent morning's work from the English openers at the Gabba. Skater and Manly have worked well together and they head off for their lunch within one shot of their half centuries. Thinking to do for Hooper.

LUNCH, DAY 1: ENGLAND 94 FOR 0
Skater 46*(89)-----Manly 45*(88)

33.4: FOUR! Smacked straight past the bowler for four runs and that brings up both the hundred for England and Skater's half century. The England captain could not be happier with how the opening day of the series is going.

Skater 52*(102) 5 fours, 0 sixes

35.4: Manly runs through for a single and brings up his fifty. Well played sir.

Manly 50*(108) 4 fours, 1 six

53.6: The 150 comes up for England as Manly taps it away and runs one. The England dressing room is on its feet, apart from Highlander999, who appears to be asleep. England 150 for 0.

57.6: TEA, DAY 1. Still no wickets for Australia and the Gabba crowd is quiet. At the moment they have to remember that this is a five match series and that after a poor start in 2009 they went on to thump the Poms. It has definitely been England's day so far though, a superb partnership between the openers and still no wickets for the home side.

TEA, DAY 1: ENGLAND 153 FOR 0 (58 OVERS)
Skater 75*(177)-----Manly 73*(176)

73.6: RETIRED HURT! It had been going so well for England. The captain, Skater, was poised on 97 not out to hit for his century, but as he went outside his off stump to hit across the line he missed the ball and got a crack in the ribs. He's in enough pain to have to go off. Pakistani Army will come in.

Skater retired hurt 97(225) 10 fours, 0 sixes
ENGLAND 186 FOR 0 (74 OVERS)

77.3: FOUR! Wonderful shot from Manly. He really is in form. He whacks through the covers, in the air over the infield and all the way for four. That brings up the two hundred for England. 203 for 0.

80.6: Hooper had originally decided to keep going with the old ball, but he seems a bit fed up with his lack of success and so after just over over of it being available takes the NEW BALL. Just over twenty minutes left on the first day. Will the new cherry bring a wicket?

86.4: WICKET! At last, Australia have a wicket. It's a cruel one for Manly, however, who just misses out on a deserved century. Hamza2000 just managed to get the ball to move away from the batsman and Manly feathered it through to timchrist984. westindies2007 is on his way out to the middle, tapping his team mate on the back as he passes.

Manly c. timchrist984 b. Hamza2000 97 (262) 7 fours, 1 six

89.6: That's the END OF DAY 1. Australia had to wait nearly 87 overs for a wicket today, although Skater did have to depart earlier on with a rib injury. No update on that yet - we don't know if the captain has broken ribs or just a bad bruise. Skater and Manly shared a partnership of 216 but it is Pakistani Army and westindies2007 who are there at the close.

CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY 1: ENGLAND 225 FOR 1 (90 OVERS)
Pakistani Army 20*(49)-----westindies2007 6*(9)
Hamza2000 22-5-41-1 (economy 1.86)

Before we go tonight there's just time to name the player of the day.

PLAYER OF THE DAY
Manly 97 (262) 7 fours, 1 six

Just again in the morning for day two. Can Australia get right back in it or will England continue to build a big first innings?

Well we're not going too well. The English skipper having to retire is fortunate as he could have easily made 200. What are our bowlers doing though.

So they're 2 down and without Manky for the 2nd innings.

An injury in ICC normally equals a loss boys. Slow batting by the Poms, obvi looking for a draw here the saddos. :p

Hamza2000 22-5-41-1 (economy 1.86) Good Bowling By Me Change It To Umair 2000 :)

Welcome back to the Gabba for the second day of the PlanetCricket Ashes II. England ended the opening day of the series in a strong position, on 225 for 1 thanks to player of the day Manly. They are effectively two down however due to captain Skater taking one on the ribs - and this morning we can confirm he has broken his ribs.

Skater's been patched up and is watching from the dressing room. It's a sunny morning and here come the players, the England batsmen are Pakistani Army and westindies2007.

91.4 overs: westindies2007 is beaten by a good delivery from Ryan Harris. After all their work yesterday the bowlers do look surprisingly fresh and there's a bit of bounce in this pitch.

107.5: FOUR! Runs had been hard to come by this morning but once these two were settled they have been racking them up. Doug Bollinger was a little too straight with that one and Pakistani Army stroked it away for four, bringing up his half century. Well played. England are 292 for 1.

Pakistani Army 53* (113) 7 fours, 0 sixes

109.1: Those leg byes off Dougie Bollinger bring up the 300 for England. 300 for 1.

113.5: Eased into the offside by westindies2007 and that's his FIFTY. All four batsmen to have taken to the field for England so far have made half centuries. England are now 314 for 1.

westindies2007 50* (68) 7 fours, 0 sixes

117.1: WICKET! That one really took westindies2007 by surprise. A fairly standard delivery from Umair2000 nips back sharply and clean bowls the England number four. The new batsman is Bevab.

westindies2007 b Umair2000 53 (75) 7 fours, 0 sixes

118.6: LUNCH, DAY 2. Australia have at least managed to pick up a wicket this morning but they still won't be too happy as they go off for lunch. Pakistani Army is well placed on 73 not out and England bat deep. Thinking to do for Hooper's men.

LUNCH, DAY 2: ENGLAND 334 FOR 2 (119 overs)
Pakistani Army 73* (147)-----Bevab 6* (11)
Umair2000 27-5-62-2 (economy 2.30)

133.6: CENTURY! Pakistani Army has really speeded up his run scoring since lunch - maybe he had pasta? A confident cut shot flies to the boundary for four and the England number three has his hundred. He must have been worried when he was 97 but he's over the line now! England are 395 for 2.

Pakistani Army 103* (192) 14 fours, 1 six

134.3: That single brings up the 400 for England, and still only two wickets down.

138.6: SIX! What a way to go to your fifty! Every English batsman seems to be in form as Bevab swats away down the ground and over the ropes to bring up his half century.

Bevab 54* (73) 6 fours, 1 six

143.1: WICKET! Pakistani Army goes for one shot too many and is caught in the deep by Dougie Bollinger. He's done a great job though and he leaves with the England fans on their feet applauding him. Next man in is treva.

Pakistani Army c Bollinger b Harris 119 (220) 16 fours, 1 six

147.6: TEA, DAY 2. Another session with just the one wicket in it for the Australians, who are looking a bit tired out there. They did get the centurion Pakistani Army out in that session, but Bevab is still in on 67. They go off for their sandwiches with England captain Skater now having to think about when he's going to declare.

TEA, DAY 2: ENGLAND 452 FOR 3 (148 overs)
Bevab 67* (98)-----treva 9* (16)

162.1: CENTURY! Bevab swats a Dougie Bollinger delivery straight back past him and brings up his hundred. He's looked really good since he came in, scoring quickly, and he gets a well deserved ton. As the batsman celebrates, England captain Skater waves his hand to signal that he is declaring the innings. Australia's batsmen will have to face just under an hour of chin music tonight.

Bevab 103* (145) 15 fours, 1 six

END OF INNINGS: ENGLAND 510 FOR 3 DEC.
Pakistani Army 119 (220)-----Bevab 103* (145)
Umair2000 33-7-76-2 (economy 2.30)

The Australian openers Simon Katich and timchrist984 with 45 minutes to face tonight. Important news is that England captain Skater has not taken to the field, so the on-field decisions will be made by Manly.

8.2: WICKET! A brave decision by the umpire because that didn't look out at first, but Hawkeye shows that the delivery from farhans would have hit the middle stump and timchrist984 is out much earlier than he would have liked. Big wicket for England to take tonight. Australia 23 for 1.

timchrist984 lbw b. farhans 14 (24) 2 fours, 0 sixes

12.6: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY 2. England in a very strong position after the second day's play here at the Gabba. Australia are 379 behind with 9 wickets in hand.

CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY 2: AUSTRALIA 31 FOR 1 (13 OVERS)
Katich 12* (36)-----hedger_14 5* (18)
farhans 7-2-15-1 (economy 2.14)

AUSTRALIA ARE 379 RUNS BEHIND WITH 9 FIRST INNINGS WICKETS REMAINING

Before we leave you let's take a look at the player of the day.

PLAYER OF THE DAY
Pakistani Army 119 (220) 16 fours, 1 six

Join us again for tomorrow for what should be an enthralling third day. A reminder that all the scoreboards and statistics for this match will be available at the end of the contest.

END OF INNINGS: ENGLAND 510 FOR 3 DEC.
Lovely Scene. and what makes it soo good AUSTRALIA 31 FOR 1 :). come on England lets Win this :thumbs

But Still We Are Better Than England :cheers

Pasta = A lot of Carbohydrates. It really did help i must say. I am really happy with myself, and the other batsman's contributions as we have posted up a decent score, and declared at a good time. Manly did deserve a century, it was very unlucky in his case.

Australia are a long way behind, and with one wicket already down, we need to keep the foot on the gas. We will need to be wary of Hedger, Hamza and captain fantastic himself Hooper. All in all, a great start lads. :clap

Day 3 is well known to be the pivotal day in any Test match, and that is certainly the case here with Australia resuming on 31 for 1 in reply to England's 510 for 3. If the home side can use this hard Gabba pitch and build an innings, they could get back in it. Lose wickets quickly though, and they will lose the game.

It has to be said, the clouds are over the ground and we might have an issue with both light and rain today. We'll see how it goes. Let's get down to the middle.

14.2 overs: FOUR! An absolutely cracking shot from Simon Katich. His on drive races across the outfield and to the boundary. Australia need a lot more of those today. 38 for 1.

16.5: WICKET! Simon Katich, who had looked good this morning, is caught on the back foot and bowled by farhans. England make a nice and early breakthrough and the tourists are on top. The new man is Umair2000.

Simon Katich b. farhans 17 (49) 2 fours, 0 sixes

25.6: SIX! That went flat and hard through the offside from Umair2000. It carried all the way over the ropes. Excellent strike. Australia 73 for 2.

37.6: WICKET! A big disappointment for Australia because the partnership was building. hedger_14 and Umair2000 had put on 58 together but hedger_14 tries going down the leg side, gets a leading edge and is caught in the slips. 96 for 3.

hedger_14 c. treva b. The Author 38 (95) 3 fours, 1 six

38.6: DROPPED! A sharp edge off the bat of Umair2000 is earthed in the slips. England would have been on top of the world if that was held.

42.6: LUNCH, DAY 3. England will be delighted with their morning's work. They have taken two wickets. Australia's hopes lie with Umair2000, who has looked good on 47 not out. The afternoon session will be huge.

LUNCH, DAY 3: AUSTRALIA 121 FOR 3 (43 OVERS)
Umair2000 47*(78)------swacker 2*(15)
farhans 14-2-33-2 (economy 2.36)

AUSTRALIA ARE 389 RUNS BEHIND WITH 7 FIRST INNINGS WICKETS REMAINING

46.5: A good drive through the covers reaches the boundary and gives Umair2000 his FIFTY. He's been the outstanding Australia player so far with wickets in the England innings and now a half century. It cannot be underlined how important it is he carries on and makes a massive score though.

Umair2000 53* (93) 6 fours, 1 six

47.3: WICKET! swacker was incredibly late on that, and as a result he is trapped leg before by The Author. This should be fun. Australian captain Hooper is on his way to the middle. A veteran of 2009, the big man is not happy.

swacker lbw b. The Author 4 (28) 0 fours, 0 sixes

54.5: WICKET! England take their second wicket of the session and Umair2000 is the man to go. He's battled well to get to his 68 but maybe he just took his eye off it and he edges a Dipak delivery behind to Highlander999, who is standing up to the stumps. Next man in is Marcus North, who joins Hooper at the crease.

Umair2000 c. Highlander999 b. Dipak 68 (118) 9 fours, 1 six

63.3: WICKET! Marcus North was doing a good job of holding up one end while Hooper let rip at the other. The Aussie captain has hit five fours so far. His partner, though, is gone. A superb delivery from farhans is edged behind to Highlander999. Here comes MaD.

Marcus North c. Highlander999 b. farhans 8 (29) 1 four, 0 sixes

72.5: WICKET! In the final over before tea, Near traps MaD in front of the stumps and is given the finger by the umpire. Hooper shakes his head at the other end as Ryan Harris trudges out to the middle.

MaD lbw b. Near 11 (27) 1 four, 0 sixes

72.6: TEA, DAY 3. What a fantastic session for England. Umair2000 started well by making his half century, but he went too quickly and since then only Hooper has offered any resistance. Australia will go and munch their Vegemite sandwiches thinking more about avoiding the follow-on than catching England's first innings score.

TEA, DAY 3: AUSTRALIA 199 FOR 7 (73 OVERS)
Hooper 31* (74)------Ryan Harris 0* (1)

AUSTRALIA NEED 111 RUNS TO AVOID THE FOLLOW-ON

76.5: WICKET! A brilliant change of bowling from stand-in captain Manly. Spinner Dipak comes back into the attack and bowls Hooper in his first over. Hooper had smacked ten fours in his two hour stay at the crease but surely with him out Australia will struggle to avoid the follow-on. mohsinhbk is the new batsman.

Hooper b. Dipak 47 (91) 10 fours, 0 sixes

79.6: As soon as it comes available Manly brings top bowler farhans back into the attack and takes the NEW BALL.

82.4: WICKET! It didn't take long for the new ball to work. It was a sharp catch from Bevab, who holds on well to give farhans his fourth wicket. Doug Bollinger comes out as the last man with Australia still 71 away from avoiding the follow-on.

Ryan Harris c. Bevab b. farhans 13 (22) 2 fours, 0 sixes

88.1: WICKET! That will be that, ladies and gentlemen. farhans has five-for by catching a Doug Bollinger shot off his bowling. Australia are all out for 247.

Dougie Bollinger c&b. farhans 0 (11) 0 fours, 0 sixes

END OF INNINGS: AUSTRALIA 247 ALL OUT (88.1 OVERS)
Umair2000 68 (118) 9 fours, 0 sixes
farhans 27.1-9-55-5 (economy 2.02)

AUSTRALIA ARE 263 RUNS BEHIND

Discussions have taken place between England captain Skater and his vice-captain Manly - Australia have been asked to follow-on. There are about forty minutes left tonight and two full days to go at the Gabba. Skater still can't take the field with his broken ribs.

4.1: FOUR! It has been a quiet start to the second innings from Australia but at last timchrist984 hits the first four. 10 for 0.

10.6: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY 3. A crumb of comfort for the Australians as the openers Simon Katich and timchrist984 manage to make it to the end of the day still at the crease. Definitely England's day though.

CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY 3: AUSTRALIA 47 FOR 0 (11 OVERS)
Simon Katich 12* (22)------timchrist984 34* (45)

AUSTRALIA ARE 216 RUNS BEHIND WITH 10 SECOND INNINGS WICKETS REMAINING

England could well finish this first Test off tomorrow. They took nine wickets today and enforced the follow-on on their hosts. Join us in the morning for what could be the conclusion of the Gabba Test. Before that, though, here's the player of the day.

PLAYER OF THE DAY
farhans 27.1-9-55-5 (economy 2.02)
