PlanetCricket Premiership 07/08

Arsenal Vs Fulham
The first 15 minutes were even until Mcbride commited a nasty foul in the penalty area to give Arsenal a Penalty which was slotted home by Da Silva. Arsenal then went on to score here 2nd in the 18th Minute but Fulham hit straight back in the form of Mcbride. In the 31st minute Bocanegra produced a stunning burst of pace and scored to level things up, but an instant reply from Arsenal put them infront of the Half Way stage.
The second half was calmer but Fulham managed to produced the equalizer once again. This time Kamara slotted home after a Rosiscky foul in the Penalty Area. Neither team from there on managed to produce another goal.
Final Score
Arsenal 3 – Fulham 3

Aston Villa Vs Liverpool
2 goals in each half for Liverpool completed the 4-0 rout over Villa. In the match Villa only hit the target 3 time something for there manger to work on during training this week. A penalty in the 6th minute which was saved by Reina set the town for Villa who were helpless against the free flowing football of Liverpool. The 1st goal came from Torres after a long pass from Rissea and Torres finshed as calmly as you like. The 2nd and 3rd both came from Kuyt. One from a second half penalty and another after a nice attack from Liverpool in the First Half. The last goal came from the upcoming Pennant.

Aston Villa 0 – Liverpool 4

Bolton Vs Newcastle
A Hat-trick from A Luque gave Newcastle an easy 3-0 win. Luque struck 1 in the first half and 2 in the second to produce an excellent performance from the Spanish Forward. Bolton never really looked to be in the game as Jaaskelainen produced a series of stunning saves to Bolton from a huge rout.

Bolton 0 - Newcastle 3

Chelsea Vs Birmingham
This was turning out to be the weekend of routs. As Chelsea produced a 4-0 beating of helpless Birmingham. The back 4 of Chelsea were to good for the Bolton attackers as they stopped any oncoming attacks. But the Birmingham back 4 never always showed heart when they tried to stop the world class forwards from Chelsea. Many claim Chelsea bought the premiership title but you have to play well and have an evenly balanced team and this is what is starting to form for them. Birmingham showed signs of class but never the class that Chelsea showed. We should look at for Birmingham as they could surprise a few people. Chelsea 4 – Birmingham 0

Derby Vs Portsmouth
This was a class game from to lower end of the table sides. It team showing why they should play in the premiership. Eventually Portmsouth nicked it as 63rd minute goal from Mwaruwari was enough to seal the Victory. The first goal was scored in the 11th minute when defender Moore shot home from just outside the area. Portsmouth had been under pressure and eventually succumbed. But when one team scores Derby had a School boy error. They switched off and Portsmouth managed to hit straight back through Mwaruwari that was his first of the game and later went onto get the winner for Portsmouth.
Derby 1 – Portsmouth 2

Middlesbrough Vs Blackburn Rovers
An evenly matched game brought the first draw of the season. McCarthy produced the first on the 20 minute mark when he beat Schwarzer in a 1 on 1. But on the 34th minute Downing produced the equalizer and from then on it was a goalless affair. Middlesbrough had the most shot on target but failed to convert most of them as Friedel produced another excellent performance from a top notch Goalie. When the refree called for half time both maangers must have produced fiery speeches as they both lifted there gameplay and physicality up another level. But still the deadlock wasn’t to be broken.Middlesbrough 1 – Blackburn Rovers 1

Manchester United Vs Reading
United pulled out another victory from the hat with some of there first choice line up still not match fit. This team seems to be pulling together nicely and it could be a close title race. Reading only managed to produce 3 shots on target to man utd’s 8. Something the reading gaffer will want definitely want to work on. 2 goals in the first half from Solskjaer and Saha put them 2-0 up at half time. Reading came out fighting in the second half and only conceded in the last minute of normal time. It would have been a fantastic effort but Dong a safe shot after a 1 on 1 with the keeper.
Manchester United 3 – Reading 0

Everton Vs Wigan
Everton and Wigan produced an equal display with a 65th minute goal the only one of the game. This from Arteta as Everton caught Wigan on the breakaway. Arteta produced a simple finish and Wigan couldn’t reply as each time dogged it out for much needed points. As each team complete for places as the table starts to separate in the forthcoming weeks. Both teams were fairly equal with there shots and all there managers need to be doing is pushing them to there best now.
Everton 1 – Wigan 0

West Ham Vs Man City
In another closely fought match it turned out as the infamous hammers edged out Man City in a well contested match. Man City took the lead in the 14th minute when Vassell slotted home a penalty. Another penalty was given but this time Zamora slotted home after a Micah Richards foul bought a warning. But he paid the price as West ham continued to pile the pressure on but failed to convert a few chances but it wouldn’t come back to haunt them as Cole scored the winner for the Hammers.
West Ham 2 – Man City 1

Game of the Week.Sunderland Vs Tottenham
A goal in the 19th minute gave Tottenham the lead but nothing else was to come from 1st half as Sunderland looked impressive against a strong Tottenham outfit. Unfortunately the Sunderland strikers never managed to find the back of the net but Tottenham found it twice more as they scored 2 in the last 20 minutess. Sunderland started to look tired as their hard work in the first half proved there undoing as. 2 Bent goals and a Berbatov goal sealed the win for Spurs.
Sunderland should be another team to watch as the Year moves forward
.
Sunderland 0 – Tottenham 3

Tune in Saturday when more fixtures will be played.

Payne resigns

Lee Payne has resigned from his position as the manager of Sunderland to pursue a career as a journalist.

Payne gave the football club's directors formal notice of his immediate departure following defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening. He is the first manager to leave their club in the new Barclays Premier League season.

Payne has secured a position as a reporter for The Daily Telegraph.

Jdeus comments on the recent home game.

A 1-1 draw.
It's strange I had a draw last night that this would be the result.
We're still sat at the bottom of the table, but now a bit closer to safety, with a win pulling us out of the bottom 3.
I'm still optimistic about the teams chances of pushing for european place at the end of the year. Theres only been 2 games so far from which we've managed a defeat, then a draw, a win should be on the cards from here then.
