Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

Yeah the rosters are out of date, so an option file on release day has been hinted at for a long time. If that will work for Xbox PS3 users, no idea i know nothing about consoles. The guys at Evo Web will sort out all the problems, and in a week or two we will be running with all the latest kits/badges and Champ league teams.

I am so used to Fifa 09 now, i played the demo last night (of pes) and got ***** by the CPU on Top Player, will take some readjusting thats for sure, but im in it for the long run.

I've actually had to uninstall the PES demo for my own safety. I have a huge assignment in for Friday, 10,000 words on the Gothic nature of Dracula, and I was getting nothing done.

Still, once thats handed in I'll probably spend the entire weekend playing it.

It's also good to here positive things about the online. No lag, and a slight problem with screen tearing which Konami are fixing.

:onpc

You'd expect there to be no problems with online at the moment - there is probably less than 100 people on the servers at a time - when thousands get onto them on release day it may well end up being a lag fest.

Konami don't do quality online servers - PES online has always been laden with faults and if they couldn't get MGS4 working well online (probably the biggest game they have/ever will release), then I don't think there's much chance for PES.

Actually if you logon to the servers it says they will be fully functional on release day, and as a result the quality of the game may not be perfect, although from the one game i tried it was perfect.

Yes, its the same as the PS3 and Xbox versions, whether that can be classed as next gen or not i don't know though.

That's what winds me up about EA. If Konami can give everyone the same game, why not EA? Is Fifa on NG that more complex than PES 09? I just don't get EA, it'd save them money as well just to port the console version over!

Well the servers aren't even fully up yet, when you log in an automated message tells you that they will go up on Friday morning BST at 2:00, up until then expect some 'connection lag and minor problems'.

Yeah it is annoying, even though i think EA have done a decent job with fifa this year (on the PC), only Next Gen Fifa could beat Pes.

The roster's always out of date with PES so I don't see why people are so surprised with it. An out of date roster is as much part of a PES game as Merseyside Blue is!

But anyway Konami have confirmed that there is an online patch to update the transfers on release date so that's that sorted. An option file to give us all the kits and stuff will be released a few days later as well. I'd give you a link but I cba. Just look on Evo Web.

At last, my copy arrives. Didn't even hear the postman knock, luckily someone was down stairs to sign for it. Well off to play, post some thoughts later.

Ok i spent a little bit of time transferring a few premiership players so i have only played one 15 minute game so far.

Impressions are good so far, started a master league on top player with chelsea. One thing is they have removed the Zoom cam which was my favourite, have to use Normal Close now.

Will report back with more detail the more i play.

OK played a few more games, yet to win a game.

Only played my Master League, so can't speak for the rest of the game.

Its hard, either that or i am really rusty at the game. Keepers seem decent to me, in fact i have only scored two goals in quite a few games, and one of those was a penalty. They seem to spill shots drilled hard and high and at close range, seems perfectly realistic to me. This time however they seem to push it wider or out for a corner, so while the rebound goal is still possible, it is less frequent.

On top player the defence mark tightly and close down heavily, meaning break the back 4 can be tough, but very rewarding if you do get through.

Passing is better, and its not longer possible to use a pass as a get out option. Passing seems firmer which is a good thing, but mis placed passes do seem to happen more often, which is great.

Perhaps the greatest thing is the long range passing, its now possible to play Direct Football, all you need is a Tall, strong striker up front. The long passing is no longer like a bullet, and its not like fifa where the ball travels in slow motion in mid air, its perfect.

Lobeed through balls are much better, and more like the lobbed through balls of Pes's gone by, this means its worth using it.

The CPU now commits fouls, and gets booked reasonably often, which is good. The referee's are still strict, but not as bad as before. So no wild red cards unless you foul a player through on goal.

Some camera's have been removed, can't remember which but i know Zoom cam has gone. There are two new cameras, Vertical something and player cam. Can't remember if they were in the previous versions. Player cam has you position just behind the selected player, amazing for one on ones, sadly difficult to use in any game accept be a legend i would imagine.

Graphics are good, faces are excellent, and the rain is superb. LODMIXER will be needed for the graphics to become excellent, an early version of kitserver has been released, but lodmixer is not in it currently.

Commentary is the same as last year, however there are quite a few new lines, ranging from the start of the match, to during the game, to at the full time whistle.

The old stats of Pes 06 are back for you to view at the end of the game, so you can see exactly what your players have done, a welcome addition.

Physics are top notch, the best i have ever seen in any football game to date. Ball feels a little heavier.

The first touch and control systems are excellent, Fifa seriously needs to learn some lessons here.

Right stick no longer does skills, its now manual pass, just push the stick to make the pass, release to pass, power bar included.

Left stick is the skill stick, a good idea, much easier. However im used to the right stick, so will take some getting used to.

Have not played about with the unassisted player change control, but i will as it opens up new avenues of play, just need to improve first.

Im finding it hard, as my ways of winning on Pes 2008 aren't working here, but i am enjoying it as its a challenge.

Ill update more later..

Gas my friend, i'll be kind and put your awful performances down to "been playing fifa for a while-itis". It's a well known disease and can be fatal in some cases.

Can't wait for tomorrow. So glad that i'm finishing college at 12pm so I can head into town before I go home. The king is back!

Just got back from a Uni trip to Whitby (zzz), and I'm greeted by the message from Amazon that my copy of PES2009 wont be shipped until Saturday.

So I cancelled the order and will go and pick it up tomorrow morning.

Ouch unlucky mate. That's why I never order my games online. Much prefer to go and buy the things myself on release date.

Yeah quite possibly. To be fair its cos im using Normal Close Cam, it just looks so much better zoomed right in, i need to adjust the viewing angle with lodmixer though i think.

Anyway, just won my first game, 1-0 away against man city. Lamps is my top goal scorer, in fact my only goal scorer so far with 3 goals. Go lamps!
