Random Country Test Draft -- DONE. Time for comments/discussion

How about we don't mention players names TumTum.

Zaheer Abbas and Abdul Qadir go unpicked.

Fat boy too didn't get picked. I thought he would be taken by somebody.

Expected Headley to go first in this West Indies round. I was surprised that he didn't go in the first West Indies round.

I got the man that I wanted from this West Indies round, Clyde Walcott will bat at #6 and also be my wicketkeeper. A powerful middle order batsman Walcott was the Viv before Viv. He had to give up the gloves because of back problems but I have no doubt that he can keep wicket because he was the wicketkeeper when two young West Indian spinners bowled 231 overs together in the historic test at Lords where the West Indies secured their first test win over England, Walcott also scored 168* in that match. He finished his career with 3798 test runs in 44 test matches with 15 centuries and 14 half centuries with a high score of 220.
Richie Benaud recalled: "I have never seen a more powerful batsman than Walcott, and when he was 'going', it was almost impossible to bowl a length to him."

1.
2. Matthew Hayden
3. Wally Hammond
4. Rahul Dravid
5. Mahela Jayawardene
6. Clyde Walcott +
7.
8. Richard Hadlee
9.
10. Allan Donald
11. Courtney Walsh

Yes I get my man! Even though he only played a few short of 50 tests, my player captured more than 200 wickets. He took 11 "5 fors" and 2 "10 fors" in that time and he was one of the most feared pacemen of his generation. The first of a long and proud line of giant, broad shouldered West Indian bowlers that made their mark throughout the seventies and eighties. Noted from his pace and bite and effort that he put into his bowling makes him an irresistible choice.

I give you:
Anderson Montgomery Everton Roberts:)

1. G C Smith
2. S Jayasuriya
3. R T Ponting (Capt.)
4. S R Tendulkar
5.
6. I T Botham
7.
8. D L Vetorri
9. A M E Roberts
10. S Akhtar
11. C E L Ambrose

I realise that my tail end is very tail-endy but my thoughts are that if the first 7 or 8 in my side can't put enough runs on the board, who can????

Damn damn damn

good pick and nice attack, Akhtar, Ambrose, Botham and Roberts!

:laugh @ Richie Benaud. Headley had made his Test debut before Richie was even born.

Joel Garner

Big Bird completes my bowling attack, and adds the much needed pace to the attack. I wanted Andy Roberts, a man I, and many others believe to be the greatest of the West Indian seamers, but I'm more than happy to settle for Big Joel. Garner, standing at a gigantic 6'8" put the fear into every batsman of the 70's and 80's. He was an exceptional strike bowler, averaging 20.97 in his Test career. Garner also saved his best performances for the top sides; averaging 20.89 and 17.93 against Australia and England respectively. He did struggle slightly against India, but that is the only blip in an otherwise magnificent career. One of the great bowlers, and now with an attack of Garner, Lohmann, Vaas, Imran, Gupte and Sobers I am delighted with both the potency and variety of my bowling attack.

1. Barry Richards
2.
3.
4. Martin Crowe
5. Sir Garfield Sobers
6. Adam Gilchrist +
7. Imran Khan
8. Chaminda Vaas
9. George Lohmann
10. Joel Garner
11. Subhash Gupte

Just imagine being Ricky ponting in my team and after a ferocious opening spell of 5 or 6 overs each of bruising from Akhtar and Ambrose, tossing the ball to Andy: "Do you want a go mate?"!:)

Yea your attack is unstoppable but your opening batsmen are a bit suspect dutchy.

Unlike my dream and rather odd pair of Hanif M and Sir Len Hutton :)

Agreed but what backs them up is pretty solid. Isn't imagination great though: just imagine these players actually playing in a team together. Orgasms all round I say!

You're going to be picking Geraint Jones then I presume Dutchy? or Tim Ambrose?

Or that new kid that just made his debut for England.

Check the sig, beside Courtney Walsh there is only Andy Roberts or the other way around. Love Andy Roberts, one of the smartest and most knowledgeable fast bowlers to ever play the game. Legend.

Damn, I fogot about Geraint Jones...I'll have to do a re-think now.....let me see.....of course I also need to fit Ashley Giles in somewhere.....:p

Dare why did you pick Walsh when Roberts was available?

Well I am confident that Hadlee and Donald could do it in the subcontinent I wanted a pace bowler that could do well there and there arent any better then Walsh. Whenever we see pace bowler being compared or discussed their record in the subcontinent is brought up.
Also when the going got tough there weren't many bowlers that could go out and bowl 10 overs on the trot on a hot humid day and Walsh did that allot. I also like Walsh a bit more then Roberts but I wouldn't have minded Roberts. He also has an outstanding record in India but there arent many fast bowlers that have the longevity of Walsh at least not in the Caribbean.
