Random Country Test Draft -- DONE. Time for comments/discussion

My only worry, as I've already told KP by PM is that Sri Lanka (and probably New Zealand too) simply don't have enough great cricketers in their ranks. There are 8 great players for Pakistan, India, West Indies, England, Australia and Pakistan.

I can think of 5 great Sirils off the top of my head. 3 more can make a break for it as well. That's where the luck factors in.

We'd only have to pick 8 Sri Lankans, I'm sure there will be enough guys to make a side, and as Cricketman said, it's about luck of the draw, which is the real fun of a draft. That's why I'm keen to keep the amount of participants at 8, anymore than that and you could be struggling for sides like Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Should be fun though, we'll see how it goes.

Also, what 3 sides should be picked for the second round of Countries? Obviously England and Australia are shoe-ins as they've been playing Test cricket for a long, long time, but who else? South Africa? West Indies? India?

If it were me, I'd have a Bangladesh/Zimbabwe round, just to add some extra difficulty to it. But if you want more quality you'd have to go West Indies. They've won the 3rd most Tests in history behind Aus and Eng.

I'll put my name up too. I love these drafts. But I realise I'm already in the ODI one, so if you want to give someone else a crack, I'm don't mind too much if I'm left out.

O I thought the first post said only 8 applications will be accepted. So I thought I was too late. Sign me up to that list if possible.

Yeah, was just opening it up for quite a few people to sign up. I think we've got enough people signed up to pick an 8 now. I'll stick the names into a Draft Generator and come up with the starting order.

King Pietersen added 6 Minutes and 58 Seconds later...

Right guys. I've picked the 8 people to contest the draft, and have put those names into the generator, and it's come up with an order of:

Pick # 1: ZoraxDoom
Pick # 2: Dutchad
Pick # 3: Cricketman
Pick # 4: King Pietersen
Pick # 5: Dare
Pick # 6: Hmarka
Pick # 7: Shravi
Pick # 8: TheGreemSim

That order will then be reversed for Round 2, before being put through the generator again for Round 3.

So it's Zorax to pick first, has 24 hours to make his pick, and the first Country we'll be picking players from (again randomly selected) is South Africa. Good luck guys! Also, a quick apology to the guys that didn't make it into the 8. It's a pretty hard thing to decide, and a draft like this wouldn't really work with anymore than 8 guys. Sorry lads.

I'm off to bed, so if Zorax could let Dutchad know it's his turn once your picks been made that'd be awesome. I'll make my pick in the morning, should the first 3 guys have made there picks (Y).

I..I..I missed out :(

Good stuff KP. Hoping this'll be active, unlike the ODI draft :\

Is there going to be a minimum number of Tests limit? Because there's a man I can think of who only played a few Tests, yet is regarded as a fantastic player and everytime he's mentioned it brings up arguments about how much weight should be given to Test match performances or lack thereof.

I personally think there should be a limit. Maybe 10 or 15 Tests, something like that. It doesn't really bother me if there is a limit or not, just as long as we know.

I purposely did not sign up, waiting for Dares post WWII draft, is that still on?

I think that'll have to wait a while. 3 drafts going on at once? Although one of them (ODI) will probably not finish anytime this decade.

Any rules? Match limit? Time limit? I say 25 match minimum since it's all-time, but ultimately it's your call KP.

BTW Dan, I saw in the Leaving/Back thread that TheGreenSim won't be on PC till Tuesday.

Well I was going to start mine really soon since the ODI draft was dead but KP started this one and there is no point in having one at the same time. So probably not until this one is finished.

Is it possible if I could take part in the draft? All the slots appear to be filled but if one becomes free for whatever reason, please see if you can fit me in. Thanks.

There's a 24 hour time-limit, and I'm not placing any restriction on the number of matches a player has to have played.

South Africa. Test Cricket. All time XI. Hmm...

Few names come to mind. Had to decide if I was going for a batsman, bowler, or AR. Also had to take into account what kind of players I'd be picking from the other countries...

So I decided to go with a relatively safe pick -

Jacques Kallis

High quality allrounders are hard to come by, and Kallis is arguably the second best allrounder to have played test cricket. He isn't as explosive or exciting as many of the other great allrounders to have played the game, but is definitely the most dependable. His batting alone is enough to get him into RSA's all time XI, nearly 11K runs at an average of 54.76 and with 34 tons. And he does a very decent job as a third seamer, average of 31.55, strike rate of 67.7 and with five 5-fers. He is also one of the safest pair of hands in world cricket.

Many may accuse Kallis of being selfish and boring, but he is the best number 3 South Africa has produced, and one of the best of all time.

3. Kallis

Had a few more exciting names in consideration, but hard to overlook Kallis.
