Goodbye Leicestershire, hello Rutland

Leicestershire County Cricket Club has finally caved in to financial pressure and been disbanded. The ECB has taken the controversial move to create a new club in the area, rather than promoting a minor county. Rutland County Cricket Club, based out of the smallest county in the UK, will take the place of Leicestershire in county competitions. Their overseas players have been announced as Hashim Amla (main), Nasir Jamshed (reserve) and Divan van Wyk (T20). Jamshed could have an important role this season, as Amla will be missing for the early part of the season. One other signing who has been confirmed is Kelby Rogerson, a young leggie.

Leicestershire have departed the county scene, and are replaced by Rutland

Okay, so I owe you a bit of an explanation. The idea behind this league is that I build a team in International Cricket Captain that is made up of regens with PC members' names. There are fifteen spots available, and they will be listed in the next post.

A few warnings:
  • The way that ICC assigns regens is pretty random. This means that not everyone will be able to pick up the role they want. For example, I only ended up with one spinner, which is mighty inconvenient, but has less effect in ICC than in real life.
  • There are only fifteen places at the moment, but there will be openings for new players each season.
  • I know I've said often that I'm short of time - that's why I've started this league. Basically, it's just me playing ICC and posting scorecards.
  • There won't be any screenshots because Windows 8 doesn't like screenshotting ICC for me.

Rutland CCC confirm squad for first season

The nineteen-man squad for Rutland County Cricket Club's first season has been confirmed today. Some of the biggest names come in the form of the overseas recruits (Hashim Amla, Nasir Jamshed and Divan van Wyk) as well as some of the local signings, like talented Nick Agger, or the bowling duo of Thomas Sully and VC Andrews.

The talented VC Andrews and Nick Agger will hope to make an impact on the county game.

The squad will face a full programme of Championship (first-class), Challenge Trophy (List A) and Twenty20 Cup cricket, and as a result, club coach Andy Hurry has decided to split the captaincy between three players for the three formats. "It just makes sense, really," Hurry told the press, "so that everyone involved can focus on building their team."

The captains are expected to be announced tomorrow.
