Ganguly not allowed to bat against Pakistan on Day 1 today! Whats the use of having him then? Why are Northamptonshire looking for victory against Pakistan? Its just a warm up game? or have they been specifically asked to beat Pakistan to deflate their confidence ahead of the Old Trafford test?
I guess that's because the county is actually looking for a victory, just like any competitive sports team would be.

Ganguly did get to bat today. He retired hurt after a bouncer struck him on the face. Am afraid this might shatter his already low confidence against fast bowlers.

Ganguly has accused Dalmiya of ruining his career by leaking Chappell's letter to the press. Things look quite bleak for him at the moment.

Yep, he's jumped back onto the political bandwagon and shown that he still doesn't know how to face the short ball.

The only reason he's said that now, months after the incident actually happened, is because he's realized (a bit too late perhaps) that Dalmiya has lost favour with most of the people who matter in Indian cricket. By seeking to distance himself from Dalmiya, Ganguly is testing the waters for a truce with Sharad Pawar/IS Bindra/Lalit Modi et al.

This is getting absolutely ridiculous. Why are you so paranoid about nobody liking Ganguly?! Ofcourse the teams want to win. It maybe a warm up game, but the team is not going to say, "Ooh, Ganguly hasn't batted yet, you've got to retire". Both teams faced 100 overs each while batting and it was a good allround warm up.

You've got to remember that it's really a warm up for Pakistan, not Northamptonshire. If not, then yeah, a couple of players would have retired while batting to let others have a go. The home county side usually tries to beat the touring side.

He is doing it to make the right noises. The current administration is totally anti-Dalmiya and Ganguly is known to be Dalmiya's protege. So by distancing himself from Dalmiya, Ganguly is hoping that the current administration looks at him in a more favorable light. Well he has to take this move if he has to think of surviving. He cant afford to be linked with a man like Dalmiya who has no support or power in the BCCI!

Does he have to successfully negotiate the short ball 10 times out of 10 to prove that he can face the short ball better than before???

Truce with Sharad Pawar?? I think Pawar is not of that type. Pawar has actually helped Ganguly in quite a few ways after he was elected President. It was due to Pawar that Ganguly was able to break into the squad for the Sri lanka and Pakistan test series in 2005. The way he was dropped, it was obvious that some 'foreign' influences was pressurizing the selectors to drop him!

He certainly has to prove that he won't flinch at the thought of bouncers. Merely being "better than before' ain't good at the international level, and it shouldn't be, even if your Saurav Ganguly and the most successful indian captain and blah blah blah

A victory for Ganguly would mean a place in the national team! Anything other than that, is not considered victory! It would be waste of time!

He did prove that, in Pakistan where he faced the short deliveries from Shoaib 'Javelin' Akthar with full determination. Or may be you will say that he needs to show that against Mc Grath or Brett Lee, etc. But ask them to play against us and he can do that!

I wish you all the best if you think that you've unravelled Sharad Pawar, one of the most crafty politicians in India. You really think that Bindra/More/Chappel can afford to be "against Ganguly" (in your words) without tacit(or otherwise) approval from Pawar ?

Why do you suppose Pawar even had to contest the damned BCCI elections - He's already union Agriculture Minister and is perenially in the race for Prime Minister. Don't you think that the BCCI poll is a bit of a step down ? Only reason he contested was because Bindra and co. needed someone as powerful and influential to displace Dalmiya, who on his own is a match for several hardened politicians.

And I do hope you'll cut the stuff about "foreign influence" and other xenophobia. Ganguly was dropped since he was not performing. Statistics will bear out on that. If you don't wanna plough through a hell lot of statistics (and I sympathise with you on that), you can watch any Ganguly innings from the past 3 years and the tentative approach of a once great batsman should convince you of his decline ...

I don't think Ganguly should annoy Dalmiya too much. Next thing we know is that he's dropped from the Bengal team as well :p

well actually this is getting ridiculous becoz you cant insist someone to believe something. He has his own thoughts
There's no problem in having your opinion, but it can't be at the expense of insulting everyone else, and ignoring strong, explained logic.

well whenever anyone has an opinion he has his own logic and any other logic doesnt seem correct to him ( this is a research, it is not true all the times) . Therefore its a human phenomena

Well, there's no use of having a forum if you can't have a debate. Everyone will be like, "Oh, it's his thoughts. He is wrong, but I can't say anything because it's his belief and he's entitiled to it".
