Sep 28 - Australia v India

I think with the Australian in such good form, they seem like table toppers

Why can't Dhoni take it on the chin and just straight up say we played badly Australia played well? Rather than going on about the rain, and it was too hard for the spinners to grip, just no accountability whatsoever. Maybe the sooner a guy like Kohli gets a hold of the team the better.

Haven't been paying too much attention, but jeez Watson's on fire. 3 man of matches in a row.

He is Dhoni, if luck favors, he will say "I wouldn't have minded if we'd have lost the match."

If his strange plans fail, his reasons are these "Ball stopped spinning after rain","Batting on this surface became difficult","Kohli got a phone call about his GFs marriage with her ex","Virender Sehwag was hungry, so we went to pavilion so that we could cook something for him" blah blah..

Its high time for Dhoni, he should consider quitting captaincy for all the formats.

We always knew our opening combo wasn't an issue, still will need someone in the middle to stand up for us to win this thing. Bowlers did a great job though in particular the young guns. Still don't know about Christian, expensive with his bowling and not needed in the batting.

I never understand Christian's presence in any of our squads but there he is.

I thought the Indian bowling was bloody awful and deserved everything it got. They seemed to have a collective meltdown.

I could see the reason for picking him as a number 7, his big hitting looked like just what we needed but he hasn't quite kicked on. Mitch Marsh has had more of an impact in his few games as has Maxwell. Christian certainly shouldn't be picked for his bowling only.

He is still a very good ODI captain and a top ODI player. He needs to quit the rest of the formats. He can't stay in long enough for tests, and he doesn't score fast enough for T20's.

Let him give his reasons... We all give ours! Rain did hurt the team this game, but Dhoni should have been smart enough to bat second (he is stupid to not think about the possibility of rain). And he made the mistake of continuing with Ashwin when Zaheer at the other end was troubling both Warner and Watson (Zaheer got both out, only to be turned down by the umpire). Irfan should bowled from the third over.

I understand the reasons, but I don't understand one thing- what was the basic need to drop Sehwag, when there was no hard hitter in the team*? If not opening, atleast at #5 or #7, he could have been attacking. The XI they played was something like Boards Presidents XI, playing some practice match against some test team. If we had Sehwag in the team, along with Raina, they could have easily managed to get 10-20 more runs (Dhoni wasted around a dozen of balls), what might have been utilized properly.

In match decisions were creepy, as mentioned by you. Irfan Pathan, who swings the new ball very well, was handed the ball when the ball became relatively old. Ashwin had frequent slots, and more over, when he had 5 "specialist bowlers", he introduced part timers.

*-Raina can hit the ball hard only if there are ample amount of runs in the scoreboard. If not, he will do tuk tuk and he starts blasting when the innings is about to come to an end.

Also see this, if you've missed out.

The problem Dhoni faces is that there is a nation of a billion people who all have different opinions and all believe that they can be a better captain than him, possibly the most successful captain in the history of Indian cricket.

:thumbs

People will appreciate him, when he's gone.

Because Chawla, Harbhajan and Irfan bowled absolute rubbish! Funny how people think picking 5 bowlers will magically make the other 4 bowlers bowl better! It doesn't!

Two decisions for India not given today! Warner and Watson both LBW to Zaheer who bowled beautifully today! But we didn't take the DRS, so can't complain. After the rain, the pitch looks totally different. Poor poor poor toss decision by the idiot!

Way too late to worry about now...but Watson got an inside edge on his - not out!

I concentrate more on Irfan being introduced in 9th over than giving part timers a chance. Bowlers can easily mess up if you give them at wrong time, what was proved in Irfans case. He is a perfect new ball bowler for India, and he was introduced in 9th over, when the ball was relatively older- and people want him to do as if he was given a new ball.

Messing up the bowling order is the main reason for the failure of Irfan that day, Bhajji and Chawla were completely out of proportion though, cause they leaked 29 runs in three over together. Added to that, playing in three front line spinners was not a good decision too.
