South Africa in England July-Sept 2012

Nobody cares who has the #1 ranking in ODIs. The World Cup winners are effectively #1, whether they are or aren't the best team. England would gladly be ranked last if it meant they had a World Cup.

That's not true. When Sri Lanka won the 1996 world-cup, in the years leading up the 1999 world -cup (although their was no ranking system in cricket then) - nobody was speaking or was giving SRI a free pass as # 1 just because they won the world-cup previously.

That was because their performances had declined drastically.

Teams still have to play well consistently in series to earn that tag as best ODI team.

I didn't say that they actually have to be the best team. I'm saying that it doesn't matter if they aren't. The World Cup does more than enough to make up for that.

After every teams wins a world-cup, a new 4-year cycle starts until the next one begins.

Regular talk that tends to get sprouted that "winning the world-cup gives you bragging rights for 4 years" is highly misguided, unless you were as good as Windies from 75-83 or Australia from 99-2011.

Essentially winning the world-cup despite the prestige, just means you were the best during that tournament, in that month, in that year. Should have no relevance or correlation to a teams performance in bilateral series after that triumph.

But it does. I agree with shravi.

But I'm in the boat that believes the only time LOI'd do matter is at multi-team tourneys.

Come on, you can't say that and then not tell us what the rumours are. :p

Well KP was originally going to be dropped for Lord's as far as I can gather. Not sure exactly what will happen tomorrow but the squad announcement has been put back from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

I wonder who the team-mate he had to sit down and sort things out with was? Is that Straussy? I heard it was an arm-wrestle, and whoever won got the girl, the house, and the captaincy of the whole country.

Been hearing from an undisclosed source that he's starting his own country. The completely undemocratic republic of Kevin. Their national flag is going to be a tail between it's own legs, whilst their national currency will be peanuts.

Do you know what occurred to me when this all kicked off. Swanny's diaries when they beat Australia... I don't seem to remember KP ever appearing, at any point, ever during the video.
