South Africa tour of India 2019/20

A bit surprised by the presence of Stokes in every lineup except mine till now. To me, he is an outstanding player in tests and ODIs but highly overrated in T20s due to his achievements in the longer formats. I would have Hardik ahead of him in T20s any day of the week.

Don't have him in the 11 I posted. I always get an impression with him that he takes his time to settle down before he goes for the big hits. He is not someone who will come in and start hitting from ball one. Therefore I have gone for Russel who when fit is probably the MVP in T20 cricket right now.

Is Samson really the only domestic option we have? :(

As I said in my last post, I would rather give a chance to Ishan Kishan who has improved his game very well in last couple of years. Samson will always be the fan favourite because when he plays well, it is difficult to take your eyes off him. However as you mentioned, he is highly inconsistent. Also Sanju is not the type of player we need right now in this 11 which already has enough accumulator. We need someone who can go after the bowlers from the very first ball that they face. If Rishabh is not doing that, it is time to give Ishan a chance.

Stokes also lacks the incredible accuracy and control that CdG offers or the variations that Hardik offers with the ball.

Russell is miles ahead of pretty much everyone in T20 cricket. On his day, he can score a ton, complete a hat-trick and take an outstanding catch to completely dominate all phases of the game. Maxwell is the only other player who can remotely come close to that.

Not the first post of yours that I’ve happened to miss today... :p

I have been someone who has followed him in his early years in this format. At that time he was very destructive who could hit the ball at will with tremendous power. He was someone who loved dancing down the wicket to hit spinners all over the park and smashed the fast bowlers with his powerful wrists. He is made to play differently in recent times. Skill wise and power wise he is right up there.

India were not made to work hard at all! The way SAF started, they should've scored 170 and that would've challenged India.

Pant again throws it away! This after getting a public "rap on the knuckles" from Shastri, Kohli and Rathour (new batting coach) in the build up to this game today. IMHO, its time to bring in Sanju Samson and play him and Pant depending on form. Pant needs to be challenged for his spot.

Rishabh Pant has more talent in his finger nail than Shastri and Rathour put together. I can't care less what this management does with him. In my head, it's already a lost cause and whatever we salvage, we salvage.

People like Pant, Rahul and Pandya need to be left alone. They don't need to be sterilised in the way Kohli and now Rohit Sharma is. The moment you'll start challenging Pant for his spot, he will bring it down a level and regular 50 off 40 balls will follow suit, because he can. Rahul and Pant have something a de Villiers and Buttler have. They can change and win games from hopeless causes and you have to bare the inconsistency. An age will come where they figure their game out and the consistency will become part of them as it has with Buttler and AB is just another league. It will follow. These guys are special. If they are sterilised or mellowed, you can just put Samson in right now and I swear to you, another Rishabh Pant you will not find on this planet let alone just our country.

We won today, but SA is the team that basically learnt all the valuable lessons.

What did we learn today? Dhawan will make his 30's and 40's at decent pace. Rohit Sharma can play fast bowling? Or that Virat Kohli can chase totals down? How would it have hurt if Iyer batted 3 today?

It amazes me that the most established bloke in the side continuously keeps batting in his preferred spot again and again and again and all the experimentation happens at a lower level (to guys that need security). Bhuvi is not playing tests. Why is he not playing here and now? It's comical.

We know what Rohit and Dhawan can do. Play Rahul regularly and see if Dhawan can overhaul Rohit which I am certain he can't.

In situations like today, throw Iyer in at 3. When will he get the opportunity to learn? A WC semi final? Like the recently concluded one? And it is just pathetic to have Pant bat ahead of Iyer. It is 0 cricketing sense.

Krunal, Jadeja and Sundar all playing? :lol

You can't blame the management for not playing Bhuvi in the tests right now especially when our bowling attack has been doing so well. Yes when the conditions are bowler friendly, Bhuvi can come in but the attack of Shami/Ishant/Bumrah has been brilliant for us and I don't see any reason to change it.

I guess Bhuvi is not playing here because he is pretty much a lock for T20 WC next year alongside Bumrah as our two strike bowlers. I think they are just trying out guys in reserves who have done well in IPL or in A tours and they are deservedly getting a look in. There is nothing comical about it.

I think there is straight shootout between all of them which is not a bad thing at all. I guess only one or two of them will feature in the final eleven of WC 2020 line-up. They all are very good but I am putting my money on Krunal being the one who will make it to the final 11. I am not sure about Chahal but I am certain that Kuldeep will make a comeback at some point in the T20 line-up. If he can keep up his performance, I definitely see Kuldeep being in the final 11 and playing as the frontline spinner in WC.

I agree with this. Rahul has to play because he can play the aggressor role very well and we need someone to perform that role in our top 3. Rohit isn't very good when he goes after bowling from ball 1 and he is at his best when he takes a bit of his time to settle in and then he has the ability to up his strike rate. Kohli is very similar to Rohit so we can't afford to have Dhawan doing the same thing as well. Bring Rahul in and have him go after bowlers. If they want to play Dhawan which I don't think they should but if they really want him because of the left-right combination then give him the license to go after the bowlers.

Definitely an opportunity missed.

I just found out that WI will be in India in December to play 3 ODI's and 3 T20's. That is the ideal time to test out the new players that they want to. I would say rest both Kohli and Rohit at least for T20's and allow these new guys to come in and see what they can do. WI is a very strong team in T20 and we will know exactly what these new players are capable of under pressure.

Is there any indian test series which is with a weak nation like Bangladesh or Sri Lanka? Would love to see new players play in a series!

A squad with no Virat, Shami, Bumrah, Pant and more players.

Considering the World Test Championship is on line now, I dont think we should be fielding a bench team against any one.[DOUBLEPOST=1568872007][/DOUBLEPOST]Gotta feel bad for Pant for yesterday's dismissal. He did not throw it away at all. That was a half tracker on leg setup line, with fine leg up. It was there to be smashed. It just went straight to the fielder unfortunately

Kuldeep Yadav got smashed at more than 4 runs per over in the 2nd unofficial Test between India A and South Africa A and there were people in the Indian team management who called Kuldeep Yadav as their go to soon bowler in Overseas conditions. :lol

Edit:- Markram looks in terrific form now just when the Test series is about to begin. I don't think South Africa's bowling can trouble India by any extent in the Test series considering they have no quality spinner to trouble India. But, if Markram can play like this against the Indian team then the Proteas could definitely give us a tough competition.

Incredibly harsh on Keshav Maharaj, who is arguably the best non-Asian test spinner out there.
