Venugopal Rao can be better utilised in the test matches in place of Saurav Ganguly or VVS Laxman! Suresh Raina can use Rao's place in the ODI's better because he is a quick scorer and a brilliant fielder apart from being a useful bowler! Already we have Rahul Dravid to anchor the Indian innings and most of our batsmen can anchor if India lose quick wickets! Its now the best time to put Suresh Raina in the XI and make him bat (He can be the surprise No.3 in Pune!).

india are now 3-0 and should not rest in the laurels and should not get carried away. too sad tendulkar didnt score in the last match. heck... dhoni compensated for that :D

guys, who do you think should be the super sub in tomorrow's match and is it day / night ?

Rao is being tested as a future replacement for Dravid or Tendulker. I think its something like this:

Tendulkar -> Rao
Dravid -> Rao
Ganguly -> Raina

Then with Yuvi, Viru and Kaif, it will be a decent lineup. Plus if Pathan is an allrounder, we can have Bhajji, Kartik, Sreesanth and VRV Singh. That is a strong future.

But if we check out test team's future:

Tendulkar -> Rao
Dravid -> Rao
Ganguly -> Raina
Laxman -> D.Kaarthik
Kumble -> M.Kartik

Again with allrounder Pathan, we can have two fulltime seamers, Bhajji, and room for another batsman! (Hopefully Dhoni or P.Patel)! :)

Two wicketkeepers in the same team for tests? Are you joking? Not needed at all... We can do well by having a batsmen!!!

Rao cant replace Tendulkar! May be Dravid, yes!!!! Anyways, right now he has some good experience in his hands!! Let us give Raina more chances too!

Dhawan ( exuse my spelling), jadav, Mishara, Badani, Rayudu, Bhandari, M patel, are future prospects aswell

Well...yea...but Patel has test 50s and he's only 19, while Dhoni-well, you know...

Ganguly? may be, but definitely not Laxman. For now, Laxman's place in the test side is secure and mind you he's only 31. So his experience will be very valuable once the other senior members retire. Also, he is bit more consistent than Ganguly and scores against formidable bowling line-ups, and his class is undisputable. Also, if Ganguly is dropped from the test side, it is almost sure that Kaif will be back into the team. He has been our best, most consistent bat for india for the last season or so. He's young, but smart cricketer and very talented. He commits himself very well, and is also tipped to be the future captain. So Rao may find it tough to break into the test team for sometime now.

As far as Dhoni is concerned, his performance in last few games might be good enough to get a place in the test team. D.Karthik is talented but inconsistent, and his wicket-keeping skills are on par/below Dhoni, who has improved very much.

Nice backing up of your team.

Ranatunga expects India whitewash

And like someone said earlier. Maybe Tharanga can get a chance now.:

To add to the problems of the Sri Lankan team, vice-captain Mahela Jayawardena will miss Thursday's match after flying back to Colombo to get married.

I thought Sangakarra was the vice-captain.
Yeah Jayawardena will be going back to lanka to get married,can't blame him though.The series change came after he had fixed his marriage.

For the first time, Ranatunga is speaking some sense! He was the same guy who lambasted India for disrespecting Sri Lanka by fielding an almost second string team! Now this guy is predicting a 7-0 rout! I would love that to happen, but I am happy he has seen some sense now!

I am definitely sure this team is not going to be of a similar type to Ganguly's men who dominated the world. This team is definitely on the road to have a greater run with greater consistency because the discpline seems to be there for everyone to see and the captain seems to be a very calm and composed person who always attempts to keep his foot on the ground by saying that the team needs to challenge itself for every game! The coach as we know, is always a stickler to fitness and discpline added with flexibility!

Come on India! A 7-0 is not beyond your reach! Beating the World No.2 team with 7-0 would be a victory that would be embossed in Indian cricket's greatest ever wins!

P.s: November 4-6 is another important three days for former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly as his side East Zone is facing Zimbabwean XI in the Duleep Trophy match! Another century would strengthen his case of selection! If India wrap up the series in Pune or Ahmedabad, then the selectors can look to rest Tendulkar for the last two games and bring in Saurav Ganguly!

That won't be a bad move, incase it happens. Sachin should definitely be rested if India wraps the series, such that he can heal himself before the SA tour and the test series. The selection process will get interesting once Kaif comes back, along with Ganguly(?). I also feel Zaheer Khan should be back, give him time! He needs to play in more matches, we can't rely on all young seamers to do the job. Zaheer has some exposure and his average isn't that bad!

Since it wasn't disclosed why Zaheer was dropped, my friends and I have assumed that he might have pulled out due to the fact that the series was during Ramadan. he probably felt that he wouldn't have been able to play while fasting. Kaif was injured, so we don't know if he would have done the same. He and Zaheer are currently the only Muslims in the squad I think...
