Sri Lanka tour of India

Dravid..... Dravid.... Dravid! Just been astonishingly wondering how history seems to keep repeating for him! First, the whole captaincy saga that unfolded few months was so eerily similar to the Ganguly-Chappell saga of 2004-05 and Dravid was in the thick of it, being the incumbent taking over! And now this nostalgic take back to that infamous 194* of Sachin in Multan, and Dravid is again in the thick of it, being the head coach!

At that time in 2004, I supported the idea of declaring at 194 because we were playing a strong Pakistan side and that too in their home conditions (even though we routed them up in that Multan test pretty easy). But this time, I am not so sure it made sense to declare at 175 while we are playing at home against a Sri Lankan side that (due respect to their country, past players & fans) just always feels like a walkover these days with their fall in cricketing standards. Maybe Jaddu could've been given the opportunity today to reach his double ton and he'd have been aggressive. I saw Jaddu's end of day statement that he asked for the declaration, but it could also be a damage control statement to avoid a more stronger "Multan 2004 rewind" :D

Like most, don't really get the timing of declaration by India. What harm would have another 25 mins of batting done? It was a golden opportunity for Jadeja. Time was not an issue. 3 full days still to go...why?

And that Niroshan dismissal? There were fielders placed specifically for that shot. The bowler was practically hoping for you play it and he surprisingly complies :facepalm

Geez! The obsession with numbers from Indians.

It was the right time to declare.

There are reports that it was Jadeja's decision to not to go for the double ton as he felt Lankan players were tired and it was the right time to declare.

When the tail wags as rarely as India's, you would want it to make up for the rest of the failures :p

Would be very surprised if that was the case. Have a feeling that he was instructed to say that to avoid/minimise the backlash that was waiting to happen.

Beg to differ. It wasn't like conditions were favourable for bowling (overcast or under lights). More time on the field = more weary SL players, right?

I think they are a better side as compared to the one that played in this game that I have linked below. And from a WTC's perspective, we can't let this happen.

A good effort from Kohli to reach out for that catch! Ashwin would've had to wait a little longer for his 435th Test Cricket had it not been taken. :p

@wasteyouryouth he needs 3 more now does Jadeja while India needs 4 wickets to win the game.

Effects are already and definitely showing up.

You still think so? 174 and 178 doesn’t say so!

Right now we’d beat SL almost the same way, even in their home conditions.

Honestly, there's way too much being said about the declaration. In my opinion, we had batted enough and should have declared when Jadeja was on 150. Big deal being made about milestones. The situation wasn't that Jadeja was on 375 and was within striking distance of breaking a world record.

Anyhow, back to the win- I think India can win at home, even if you make Siraj the captain. Way too one-sided and way too much importance being given to Rohit's captaincy here. Sri Lanka never turned up and I'd be damned if they do turn up at Bengaluru as well.
