Sri Lanka tour of India

That was another horrendous inning from Rohit, he has now played 2 horrendous innings in last 4 matches. Think he was trying way too hard to hit.

#KorboLorboJeetbo :lol ! We might finally have a captain who ll score runs :p

You guys made the final last year without Morgan making runs.... We (CSK) won the damn title without Dhoni making any runs and even pushing himself all the way down to not even want to bat! :D

Captain making runs is nice, but doesn't make any difference in the team's fortunes in the tournament.

Wow1 So happy for Shreyas, comes into this with quite negative rating around himself and stuns his critics. Lovely to see him among runs. Hope he starts getting these scores more often.

Yeah Sanju Samson had total game awareness today. No eating up dot balls. No excessive hard hitting. No slogging. I wonder why isn't he preferred over Pant. Ain't it @icyman ?

I'd say, let's give Sanju a couple more series? Samson has been unlucky in this regard, especially given that he was never given a longer run. Lets give him a slightly longer run and see where he fits in.

--------------

On the question of fitting in- This Indian team has performed admirably well. The burning question is- what happens when the likes of KLR, Virat, SKY, Pandya get fit? Do they walk in? Or do you select an XI purely based off current form? This, is what could make or break the Indian WT20 dream.

Oops. You just dialed the sensitivity meter way too high! :D

Except for Pandya, all the other 3 should walk into the XI pretty comfortably. Hardik is hugely dispensable and its proved that the team cant afford to keep him if he cant bowl full tilt. Rahul has shown very good adaptability where he can open and he can also bat in the middle order. SKY is that sutradhar (thread that holds things together) in the middle and dials himself up or down based on the situation. Virat is well.... Virat! As a batsman, he's pretty undroppable and it would take a stunningly horrible year or two (like a massive chunk of single digit scores and pure display of struggle that never seems to stop) for Virat to get to the position where people think of dropping him from the team.

The IPL will be a big indicator. One would assume Kohli walks back in. Personally thought he should've binned off T20i's when he gave up the captaincy. Got a better record than some of the other top order options over the last 12 months.

Trying to squeeze Iyer, Pant, Yadav, Other Iyer, Jadeja, Hardik are massive options for the middle order into four positions is a luxury but surely they'd be a temptation to free up another spot to accommodate on more. They'd almost all walk into other teams.

It is quite interesting that we are falling for this hyped up thing that Kohli is struggling everywhere (ngl I felt the same at one point). I went to Cricinfo to see who has the best average in T20Is for India since the start of 2020 amongst batsmen to have played 10 or more innings. And I saw Kohli at 2nd spot (averages 47.35). Kohli has been India's 3rd highest run scorer in the said period. His strike also looks good (a healthy 136.13).

Rohit
Rahul/Kishan/Gaikwad
Kohli
Iyer/Surya
Pant/Samson
Hooda/V Iyer
Jadeja/A Patel
Thakur/Chahar/Patel
Kuldeep/Bishnoi/Chahal
Bhuvneshwar/Siraj/Avesh
Bumrah

This is a 23-man squad already!

I feel India's lineup should be this

  1. Rohit Sharma
  2. KL Rahul
  3. Virat Kohli
  4. Suryakumar Yadav
  5. Rishabh Pant
  6. Venketesh Iyer
  7. Ravindra Jajeda
  8. Deepak Chahar
  9. Chahal/Bishnoi
  10. Siraj
  11. Bumrah
We can have Iyer, Hooda, Kuldeep, Bhuvi, Avesh, Thakur, Axar, Samson all as backup. I think we are definitely on the right track and we are playing a ton of T20's in the next few months (IPL, South Africa series(5 T20), England series(3 T20), West Indies (3 T20), Ireland (1 T20)). So we have 12 T20's so far on schedule to get our combinations right and IPL to have either maintain fitness and form.
