Tamil Music/Movie Thread

Waiting to watch Jilla first, for just Vijay (also added bonus of Mohanlal's presence) and the songs by Imman. Then Veeram for Ajith, though I had a terrible experience with Aarambham!

I feel both films will do well this time. The clash itself will ensure both get great numbers

Sai, if you are expecting classy stuff - you would get disappointed. It's typical storyline of Ajith neatly presented with second half gaining edge over the first half of the movie. I won't say it's superb, but I enjoyed it watching in ambience of the theatres here with our country crowd!

I want to watch Jilla. I am not that excited really about Veeram. I am a bigger Vijay fan than an Ajith fan. I used to dislike Ajith in the times when he did films like Anjaneya, Aalwar, Asal, Aegan, etc. I didn't even like his Billa which was a big hit. I liked him a lot in Mankatha, and off late I have been liking him as a person in real life. But my opinion of Ajith as an actor hasn't changed much. Its not that he didn't have potential. He had lots of it. He wasted it choosing wrong films. Vijay knew his limited strengths and choose films around those strengths (even he too had that torrid period of Villu, Vettaikaran, Sura, etc). But his brand of films has always attracted me.

And I don't want classy stuff from Ajith anymore. Its gotten to the point of being a big bore. Film after film after film, coming with these suits and Ray-Ban coolers, with Yuvan Shankar Raja's music. Its good Veeram is a break away from that.

Is that all gas that you have left? You could possibly go to each and every Tamil cinema watching person and ask them what they left for Veeram and Jilla. TFU Kannan, Ramesh Bala, Prashanth Rangaswamy, Sreedhar pillai, etc.... ?????? That way, any one who gives a review of a film is a critic. Ask everyone then!!

Both are masala films. So it all comes down to "whose good time is it to click a t the box office and with audience". And in Bollywood, if a masala film is trashed by critics, then its good times for that film. So nothing is proved yet!

Got to do nothing about how much gas is left or if i want to fuel up my tank again. This is a piece of information i got from the internet. I don't even know who those Pillai or Prashanth is, i just put the information i saw because i like Ajith much better and i feel Ajith is a naturally talented person and a perfect gentleman.

I know you do post information based on your personal liking. But post individual reviews like Pillai, Prashanth, etc as if they are website reviews feels like desperation.

We still haven't heard anything about BO numbers. Critics trashed Thirupachi when it released (it was a Super Good films production too) but the movie went on to become a blockbuster. And its barely a day after release, and the opening days are expected to be filled for both films irrespective of reviews and content. The clear picture will only emerge from Monday. Right now, its still neck to neck.

See my above reply.

Just watched 'Irandaam Ulagam'. Well, struggled I should say! Very rarely do you see a film where the problem is completely with the story (rather than the screenplay). This film has such a flawed and a rubbish concept. I am now very sure that Selvaraghavan is a crack head. His imaginations are all pure nonsense, and he takes all his wild and crap imaginations very seriously (i.e. presents them in a very serious manner).

This was a childish fantasy film, but he puts it in a very adult based setting and thereby makes sure its not a children's film. And even for adults, the screenplay is presented in a very serious fashion when the story itself is nonsense. Also, highly amaeturish screenplay. Disjointed at many places, so many scenes that make you say "oh god, what is this guy (selvaraghavan) doing?". All in all, Selvaraghavan is one director who is massively overrated in the industry. He will never be in my top director's list.

Not yet Sai, I am still trying for a vacation to India around 2-3 weeks but looks like it won't be possible for first 2 quarters of this year. They usually show the top expected/awaiting Tamil/Telugu/Hindi movies for a day or 2 in 'Malco' theatres for $12/ticket.

I actually have no preference between Ajith or Surya or Vijay, as any movie that entertains for those 2-3 hours, I always watch it. Recent films of Ajith that I liked were Mangatha, Kreedam and Billa. Ones from Vijay were Sivakasi, Pokiri and Thupakki(to some extent). So have nothing much to say about these two, as majority of their films is really meant for their own local fans and it is good as long as those fans enjoy it. :)

People who went to Jilla here, actually said that Veeram was better relatively. I don't really know as I am yet to watch Jilla, probably I would have to wait till those DVD copies come out as they have taken the movie out of the shows this week. :(

Malco theatres? Are you in Memphis, Tennessee?

I am in Bentonville, Arkansas :) they showed in a city called 'Rogers(malco)' which is 5 mins from my place & showing in 'BellaVista(sugar creek center)' from Thursday till Sunday which is kind of 30ish minutes from my place.

Heard that they are trying to keep the foreign language movies for atleast a week, adding revenue to these theatres which is usually more for a day compared to normal English movies($10/ticket) at my place. Yes, mine is very small place though its headquarters for Walmart.
