The guy they had opening with Tamim in NZ, Junaid Siddique, seemed to have a fair bit of ability as well. The problem is that they've had so many guys like that come about in the past 5 years or so. The players that they select tend to have amazing capacity for playing shots, but composure and consistency that is brittle when put to the test. They say Ashraful plays one big innings each year; although a bemusing quality, the reason he's rated so highly is that is still more than anyone else. Although inconsistent, he is Bangladesh's Brian Lara; in their microcosm, he has scored the most Test hundreds. Even the much more consistent Habibul Bashar scored less hundreds in his 50 Test career.
A lot of these guys will eventually get somewhere with their cricket. For their age bracket, they are playing a much more demanding form of cricket than those who eventually become stars for other countries. Mohammad Ashraful, for example; I mentioned Habibul Bashar's 50 Test career, well Ashraful has played 42 Tests and 119 ODIs at the age of 23. His career could well include over 300 ODIs and more than 100 Tests. A great number of these players are even younger. That leaves plenty of space for improvements to be made. It's only a matter of how long the patience lasts.
