Tendulkar vs Jayasuriya (Who's the better ODI batsman)

Better ODI Batsman

Sachin is miles ahead of any other ODi batsman, let alone Jayasuriya. I'd take Matty Hayden ahead of Jayasuriya if we're talking ODi openers as well tbh. Sachin's miles ahead of everyone though, got a ridiculous ODi record, 44 hundreds in 50 over cricket is just unbelievable.

Jayasuriya.

And the stats prove that. More WC wins and a higher strike-rate :spy But of course it's Tendulkar, he's easily the best ever one day batsmen of al-time, Jayasuriya would struggle to make the top five.

Was this thread the outcome of starmail program of Start Cricket channel? I remember seeing the final poll between Sachin and Sanath for number 1 performer & winners being announced on the first day of CT09.

Is there even a comparison? Tendulkar by millions of light years.

Allround, it would have to be Jayasuriya, but even though I am Sri Lankan, I admit Sachin Tendulkar's the better batsmen.

after all that stats do we still need a poll?? the question should be "Whos Your FAVORITE"

btw you forgot this

Age

Sachin 36

Sanath 40

it's obviously sachin, but your stats are a joke.

strike rates
sachin = 85.77
sanath = 91.26

and in fact I could do all the variations of strike rates you did of averages and sanath would come out top in every one (96.56 SR for jaya in matches won to sachins 90.08 etc etc)

sixes
sachin = 177
sanath = 270

of course one of the big ones would be

world cups won
sachin = 0
sanath = 1

as I said, still sachin but what a terrible way to present the case for each. Sanath's style changed the game, and that counts for a lot more than averages.

Are you mad??? Obviously Sachin is the better player..what's the purpose of this comparison??..plus all your stats are biased towards tendulkar..sanath is a better bowler than sachin.Since india's got one of the best players of ALL-TIME it doesn't mean you should compare him to a player less than his calibre, why don't you compare Murali and Harbhajan and see who is the better bowler huh??

Why are you making this seem like an attack against Sri Lanka or its players... It's a comparison of individuals.

Ok fine i'm sorry i might have got a little carried away, but it doesn't seem right to compare people in different leagues.Sachin is one of the best player's of all-time and Sanath is just a mere shadow of him.Atleast the stats provided should've been according to a neutral perspective instead of it being biased towards sachin, even though if it was Sachin would still be better,so there is hardly any point of this comparison!

shravi, there is a certain gloating quality to an article that asks which is the better batsman and then lists a number of stats "to help out comparison" all blatantly favouring one player (who is anyway, quite rightly, regarded as the best ODI batsman ever, let alone out of these two)

I'm pretty sure a lot of indian fans would not appreciate a "who is the better batsman: bradman or tendulkar" thread that focused entirely on averages and not even considering tendulkars success in more countries and impressive aggregates. Or indeed, Murali to any indian spinner.

as Mike23 said, at least partly focusing on all round contribution, sanath's strike rate, or even sanath's role in defining a modern ODI opener would have been a little fairer on sanath who is out on a limb trying to compare to sachin.

That's not true. Bradman > Tendulkar. Murali > any Indian spinner. I'm Indian as well.

Strike rates don't really make much of a case for Sanath considering the stats that were shown in the first post. I too agree that it is a bit of a pointless thread. Sachin cannot be compared to Sanath because Sachin is in a different league to most batsman, not just Sanath. That's not to take anything away from Sanath though. I do agree that the thread starter should have at least used some stats that were in Sanath's favour though.

Tendulkar no contest. He's in a different class.

This.

sixes
sachin = 177
sanath = 270

of course one of the big ones would be

world cups won
sachin = 0
sanath = 1

Bahahahaha! Are you an idiot?

Jayasuria is of course much better because he has hit more sixes. Isn't it obvious people? Oh, and not to mention his team has won a World Cup, Tendulkar's hasn't. Jayasuria is obviously much better. :sarcasm
