Rob is probably the only guy in this thread that has seen both men bat live so he is hardly misinformed.

Was it Rob who said that Sachin is`nt even the best batsman of his era? In any case, that was the comment I was referring to. To decide whether Sachin is or is not the best of his era, you need not have to even look at Richards! I have seen all great batsmen from the Tendulkar generation play ODI cricket and to say that he is`nt even close to being the best ODI player of his generation sounds pretty silly.

Atleast I was posting to the current topic about Tendulkar Vs Richards. And I was saying that Tendulkar is the best batsmen of the era which can be a reason why he is better than Richards. Your just saying "Don't you ever think the joke is on you?" When I don't care, I am not talking to you and you try to get into the conversation.

No, what you were doing was rage about how Robelinda said Tendulkar wasn't even close to being the best ODI batsman of his era. All I did was try to point out to you that maybe he was taking a dig at you, but if you want to continue looking like an idiot by my guest.

Up until a period around 96 or 97 Sachin really wasnt known as one of the best one day batsmen, but after the 96 world cup he stepped up his ODI game, and has been consistent since. Its not like he'd been the stand out ODI batsman since 1989, others were ahead of him comfortable until he reached his best form say in 96/97. Since then yes he's been outstanding, but there were a lot of years where his 'fear factor' seemed to diminish, I remember in the late 90's i'd just crap myself when we bowled to Sachin, he seemed destined for a ton every time, which is how i'd feel when we played WI in the 80's. That fear of being torn apart by Sachin seemed to ease as the 2000's progressed, he'd get runs but wasnt the aggressor of old, until just recently it seems. But his overall figures do him justice for sure.

Doesn't mean anything if he saw Tendulkar and Richards play...he said that "Tendulkar isn't even close to the best batsmen of the era." It has nothing to do with Richards at all actually. He has his opinion on the matter and I can respect that, the thing is that he said that Sachin isn't even close. That's not debatable at all, Sachin has proven to be one of the best batsmen of this era and I think it may not be a debate anymore, Sachin is easily the best batsmen of the era.

I wouldn't say misinformed, maybe just wrong in this case.

First off, this is not rage whatsoever. What I said to TumTum may be considered as rage maybe but this is no where near rage. I clearly said that I can respect your opinion, I don't understand how that seems as rage to you. I love how you think that I am the idiot in this instance when Rob is clearly stating that Tendulkar is not the best batsmen of the era in another post right below yours. He is stating his opinion and he actually has some valid reasons why Tendulkar is not the best batsmen of this era. So I don't think the jokes on me.....I don't think there is a joke whatsoever.

Now back to the topic. Rob I actually agree with you on that one, Tendulkar started his career pretty slow and until the 96 world cup he wasn't even close to the best batsmen.

OK fine, have we solved that now?

And by the way, this post wasn't directed at you at all?
Did my last post go right over your head?!?!

I agree that Tendulkar doesn't really strike fear into the hearts of opposition bowlers now, being more of an accumulator.

Yea I picked the wrong post to quote my bad lol. I wanted the one about the joke.

I will agree with that and maybe go even further on that, Tendulkar never really stirked fear in the hearts of bowlers maybe in the early 2000s. Reason being that he was so small, I mean he's 5'5 you don't expect him to be such a great batsmen. Richards on the other hand was absolutely brutal with his game and bowlers were afraid of him pretty much throughout his career

World Cup 2003, absolutely blitzed it. And in recent time he's been brutal. But apart from that I can't remember him being as dominating as Richards.

I really believe that no comparisons should be made between these two greats, however I must say, Sachin does stand tall and far ahead of any other cricketer in this format of the game. People making comparisons should know that Tendulkar played most of his cricket in the era of higher expectations, bigger totals and brutal injuries due to excessive cricket, to go through such hardships and going on the become such a dominant player that he is, it is just phenomenal. And I do agree with one of the guys earlier who said that both Richard and Ponting never faced the best bowling attacks of their generations as they happened to be in the same team, not their fault though, must have been a proud moment to be associated with such great teams. In totality, I dont think that there would be any cricketer ever again who can fill the gap once Sachin retires, cricketers may come and go, but the little master will remain in our hearts forever, so much of success and such modest and humble attitude, isn't that a rarity these days.:hpraise:hpraise:hpraise

You forgot flat pitches, armor all over the body and a bat thats half a telephone poll.

Also what higher expectations does Sachin have that Viv didn't get. Injuries were always a part of the game, if you check some cricketers of the past you will see they got injured too.
Try facing Lille, Thompson, Hadlee with no helmet and then worry about a injury.
