shravi, there is a certain gloating quality to an article that asks which is the better batsman and then lists a number of stats "to help out comparison" all blatantly favouring one player (who is anyway, quite rightly, regarded as the best ODI batsman ever, let alone out of these two)

I'm pretty sure a lot of indian fans would not appreciate a "who is the better batsman: bradman or tendulkar" thread that focused entirely on averages and not even considering tendulkars success in more countries and impressive aggregates. Or indeed, Murali to any indian spinner.

as Mike23 said, at least partly focusing on all round contribution, sanath's strike rate, or even sanath's role in defining a modern ODI opener would have been a little fairer on sanath who is out on a limb trying to compare to sachin.

My thoughts on this thread too. Really their is little need for it because just about everyone agrees that Tendulkar's the better player. But to list a number of stats that favour one player and leave out a number that favour the other is a little unfair I spose.

For people suggesting that I manipulated stats -

I just posted the big points. Who scored more runs, who played how many innings to score those runs, who is the better big match player, and who is the better big tournament player ..... what wrong did I do ?

Well since strike-rate is rather important in one day cricket I was a little surprised not to see it up their tbh. In some cases a strike-rate can almost or sometimes be more important then a batting average.

Jayasuriya cannot be considered as a great, he is far too inconsistent. Comparing him with Sachin is ridiculous.

Aravinda De Silva > Jayasuriya.

Jaya got more cars then Sachin. Jaya got WAYY too many

Aravinda De Silva > Jayasuriya.

Yes, I like the way that chap plays, Aravinda! Very dangerous and more cunning/brain-full than Sanath.

By the way, why do we need to have such a comparison? What is the use? Mumbai Indians still can't even reach the IPL finals despite having two best batsmen in their squad. Every batsman have their unique way of playing whether is Sachin or Ponting or Lara or Sanath or whoever.

Only thing which I can compare is, Sachin acts to situation strategically better than Sanath.

If Sachin had faced Indian bowling he would have had 60 ODI hundreds by now.

With international bowling, he has got 40+. If it was Indian bowling, he should have had 1 100/ 2 match. Anyone can score against our pathetic pace jokers. :laugh RP Singh, King of International bowling. A.Nehra, legend of International bowling. Munaf, The quickest of all time. :rtfl

Yeah not to forget the guys who were in his prime. Prasad, Mohanty, Harvinder Singh, Kuruvilla, Agarkar and Manoj Prabhakar.
