The All-Time One-Day Draft

@ddrap14

1. :wi: :bat: Gordon Greenidge
2. :wi: :wk: Shai Hope
3. :eng: :bat: Ian Bell
4. :pak: :bat: Javed Miandad
5. :wi: :ar: Carl Hooper
6. :ned: :ar: Ryan ten Doeschate :redo:
7. :eng: :ar: Gilbert Jessop :slvo:
8. :saf: :ar: Shaun Pollock
9. :aus: :bwl: Brett Lee
10. :aus: :bwl: Ryan Harris
11. :eng: :bwl: Derek Underwood

12th man - :nam: Rudi van Vuuren :redo:

To use a fandom wrestling term, I'll always mark the hell out for Ryan ten Doeschate. Better bowler than he is a batsman, he maybe could be actually swapped with Pollock in this XI. I always loved to see Pollock bat up the order, a very underrated batsman. You have one of the all-time best openers in the game in Greenidge. Hope is pretty decent in limited overs too. Bell is there or thereabouts. Hooper was really your gem besides Pollock. Bats, bowls, fields. And no grille on his helmet. Lee and Harris, two Aussies who will knock poles over time and again. I don't think you'll have any issues batting first or second. This is a pretty decently balanced team here.

I couldn't leave it undone.

@Neptune

1. :aus: :bat: Mark Waugh
2. :nzf: :bat: Glenn Turner
3. :wi: :bat: Brian Lara
4. :eng: :bat: Kevin Pietersen
5. :saf: :wk: AB de Villiers
6. :nzf: :ar: Chris Cairns
7. :saf: :ar: Clive Rice
8. :usa: :ar: Bart King :redo: :slvo:
9. :aus: :bwl: Shane Warne
10. :aus: :bwl: Nathan Bracken
11. :eng: :bwl: Bob Willis

12th man - :ire: Gareth Delany :redo:

AB is batting too low in this order. He's way better than just number 5. Pietersen has the hitting ability to come in under him. Chris Cairns and Kevin Pietersen can absolutely demolish bowlers in the final 10 overs, whether setting a total or chasing one. Plus, while Warne wasn't known that much for his ODI exploits, he was a great limited overs bowler. Add Bracken who could ramp things up on his day...well you could see why the Aussies dominated ODI cricket back in the day. (God, I'm getting old.) Agree with Aislabie that Waugh, Turner and Lara will get you off to a good start, but maybe not a great one. Someone has to get out for Pietersen/de Villiers to push the score close to 300 batting first. With Warne though, you never know. 230 might just be good enough to defend.

6. :wi: :wk: Nicholas Pooran (:purpo: - auto)
7. :nam: :ar: Gerrie Snyman :redo: (:purpo: - auto)
8. :sri: :ar: Chaminda Vaas
9. :saf: :bwl: Peter Pollock (:purpo: - auto)
10. :pak: :bwl: Saeed Ajmal
11. :sri: :bwl: Ajantha Mendis (:purpo: - auto)

12th man - :wi: Fabian Allen (:purpo: - auto)

We get into the autos here. But you got Kallis, easily the best all-rounder since Sobers. Vaas with his left-arm seam and just a little bit of swing get right handers out in the early overs. (Gets the left-handed Gayle out often too.) Pooran might be batting a bit low, maybe swap him with Kallis depending on the match situation. He's aggressive and you may need that after someone like Root gets out. Love the auto-pick of Mendis. Along with Ajmal, you've got some spinners there. Bowl first, no matter what the pitch looks like.

7. :wi: :ar: Andre Russell
8. :wi: :ar: Learie Constantine :slvo:
9. :nzf: :bwl: Shane Bond
10. :aus: :bwl: Shaun Tait
11. :aus: :bwl: Glenn McGrath

12th man - :usa: Hayden Walsh Jr :redo:

Why is Hayden Walsh warming the bench? Then again you've got McGrath, Bond, Tait, Constantine, Russel. Bowl first and restrict the opposition for under 200. Don't think your batsmen will be under too much pressure there. God...that is a bowling attack to dribble over. When they're in their prime all you can do is watch the ball hit the edge time after time. How in the holy hell did you manage this in such a big Draft? Yeah, Aislabie might say it's samey and you ideally could do with a proper spinner (Walsh Jr.), but I'm not sure you'd even need one. 10 wickets would be down before anyone thinks about a spinner. Ganguly might even bring himself on, just because he can.

@Bevab

7. :eng: :ar: Andrew Flintoff
8. :wi: :ar: Franklyn Stephenson
9. :pak: :bwl: Sarfraz Nawaz
10. :pak: :bwl: Saqlain Mushtaq
11. :ban: :bwl: Mustafizur Rahman

12th man - :ire: William Porterfield :redo:

Deano. RIP, man.
Sobers might have only played one ODI, but he'd have been great at the format. Walcott was a hard-hitting batsman. Flintoff...ah, he has reputation. Not as good as people say he is. He's like a Botham, reliable but not outstanding. Problem is, when he's good he's damn good. Fizz adds a hell of a lot to your team simply because he's a left-armer. Just like Vaas a couple posts above. he can get the ball to seam and just straighten. And well, Mushtaq didn't invent the doosra, but Moin Khan kept to it and made it famous. This seems like a defending team to me, bat first, get Richards and Deano big runs, and don't ever call the name "Ambrose".

@Aislabie
1. :aus: :bat: Aaron Finch
2. :saf: :ar: Eddie Barlow
3. :eng: :bat: Graeme Hick :redo:
4. :saf: :bat: Graeme Pollock
5. :aus: :ar: Darren Lehmann
6. :aus: :ar: Andrew Symonds
7. :saf: :ar: Mike Procter
8. :wi: :ar: Keith Boyce
9. :aus: :bwl: Mitchell Johnson
10. :eng: :bwl: Sydney Barnes :slvo:
11. :ned: :wk: Jeroen Smits :redo:

12th man - :aus: Ben Laughlin

You know, for a guy who lives halfway across the world from them, you've got a hell of a lot of Aussies in this team. Lehmann was one of the most underrated all-rounders of his time, to be honest. He was all muscle and half fat (he was one and a half player, really). And apart from Symonds appealing for Shiv Chanderpaul to be out caught down the leg side in 2003 when the ball hit absolutely nothing, he wasn't too bad either. He was almost Sobers-esque, could bowl pace, spin, everything. Of course you got Syd Barnes because you're Aislabie. I would rather see Finch and Hick bat together though, then Pollock at three. I don't think it's a bad team, but the batting order could be rearranged a little. Even down to your specialist number 11....yeah, it could be rearranged slightly. This is a chasing team though, I honestly can't see them batting first.

(EDIT: I think it was Dave Shepherd who gave Chanders out. And Chanders literally looked at him and mouthed the words, "Out? No..." But he walked still.

You've been waiting...I should have kept you for last...

:wi: :bat: Chris Gayle
:sco: :bat: Kyle Coetzer :redo:
:aus: :bat: Michael Clarke
:saf: :ar: Aubrey Faulkner :slvo:
:ind: :ar: Yuvraj Singh
:eng: :ar: Paul Collingwood
:pak: :ar: Imran Khan
:saf: :wkb: Mark Boucher
:wi: :bwl: Curtly Ambrose
:nzf: :bwl: Trent Boult
:sri: :bwl: Muttiah Muralitharan
:sco: :ar: Josh Davey :redo: (12th man)

Gayle in his day would give you half a century and 2-3 wickets. That's before he got diagnosed with his heart problem. (That's why he isn't as active on the field these days, it's not age...although he did have surgery just after an Australian tour in Australia, I believe.)
Murali will give you another 2-3 wickets for about 30 runs in 10 overs.
Ambrose will give you another 2-3 wickets for about 20 runs in 10 overs.
Boult will give you the rest of wickets, even if he goes for runs.
Who needs Imran Khan, Paul Collingwood, Yuvraj Singh?
Plus you have Boucher, who, I'm obligated to remind everyone, has 1000 international dismissals (999 as wicketkeeper and one wicket as a bowler).
Bowl first and get the batsmen the hell out of there within 30 overs.

If those I missed can post their completed team lists I'll do my analysis in a bit. Again, this isn't exactly statistically correct and only my opinion. Aislabie is the stats guy here.

@Ed Smith's Basement

:sri: :ar: Sanath Jayasuriya
:eng: :bat: Jason Roy
:saf: :bat: Hashim Amla
:aus: :bat: Victor Trumper :slvo:
:zim: :wkb: Brendon Taylor

:aus: :bwl: Geoff Lawson
:nzf: :bwl: Ewen Chatfield
:sri: :bwl: Lasith Malinga
:nep: :bwl: Sandeep Lamichhane :redo:
:ber: Dwayne Leverock (12th)

Definitely bat first and defend. You've got Slinga in your team. I like Jayasuriya at the top, he'll also add to the bowling. I considered him the Sri Lankan Carl Hooper at one point in time. Roy will give you some runs and is a decent enough partner for Jaya. Amla isn't quite known for his big hitting, but he's the sort of guy that can score at a run a ball and you don't even notice his quiet contribution to the team. Trumper just scored and scored. Do see a slight bowling weakness with the all-rounders having to contribute big at times, so perhaps get the lesser guys finished early, and then save Malinga, Lamichhanne and even Lawson (excellent economy rate) until the latter part of the innings.

1. :aus: Don Bradman :bat: :slvo:

10. :pak: Shoaib Akhtar :bwl:
11. :saf: Morne Morkel :bwl:
12. :png: Geraint Jones:wk: :redo:

Bradman is a good pick, it's been said before, but a lot of people don't really realise that he scored his runs faster than most of his contemporaries. And he hardly ever hit the ball in the air. Fours aplenty. Guptill will handle the sixes, then Williamson will continue with the scoring. Where you may get a bit of a slowdown is in the middle. Dravid was decent enough as an ODI keeper, he was decent enough as an ODI batsman. But he was simply made for Test cricket. Shakib adds to your bowling, and with Rashid Khan it gives you an extremely good spin attack after Morkel, Steyn, and Akhtar get done with the new ball. This is a chasing team though, because they need to know how to set up a run chase given all the bowling options in this team.

Maybe because you stole Bhaji from me. The second half of the greatest openers to play the game, and such a wonderful person in Haynes. Bairstow at the top is actually not a bad choice. With Faf and Taylor coming into the middle, it's setting a good platform for guys like Bhaji to hit a 30-odd in just a few balls. Why is Rhodes sitting on the bench though? The amount of runs he'd save on the field is amazing. You're suffering from a bowling glut here...I've noticed that in Drafts after Don, Viv, is gone it's bowlers we pick. Dan the Man can bat. Sir Richard can bat. But will they give you the runs needed? Bowl first and use the resources available to you.

EDIT: SORRY TO ANYONE I'VE MISSED!
