Ring ring… Good Morning, Macworld will meet you at Hampshire cricket ground. A car will be waiting for you outside at 6:30. Please make sure you are prompt.

1 hour later…

MacWorld: Welcome to hampshire cricket ground, one of you will be playing here regularly if you win the competition. So far I have been unimpressed. Within 1 week I have had to get rid of 5 people. 4 did not even do the task. You guys came here because you thought you could win. Most of you do not seem to care. I have bought you here because today is a open day at the club. There are various events here but the one I bought you here for takes place on the pitch. Every year hampshire try to recruit youngsters to play more cricket at a youth academy. There is a taster session today, your task is to write up what you would do with these kids for a 1 hour training session. Remember some of these kids have not played cricket before.

The Task: Write up a 150 word minimum essay outlining what you would do at a training session where the aim is to get youngsters interested in cricket. The session is one hour and you can do what you want with the kids. All items are provided.

You have till Friday, Good Luck.

1 hour of teaching these kid about Cricket, will be hard. (i don't know the amount of youngster given to me, but I would say 30 youngster)
But here I go.
in the 1st 5mins. I will teach them about holding the bat and ball, because like me youngster of today, don't really like long talks and so on, I know I would of bored them if I carry the speech over this few 5min

I will let all the kid sit on the ground, and teaching them the technique of holding the back. I have watch a lot of Video based on batting technique which was very helpful for me for this session. I told the youngster the best way to hold a bet is to put the bat face down on the ground and pick it up with right hand hold back side of the bat, while the left hand holding the face of the bat. while for a left hander it would be the opposite way.

Than I will teach them about the bowling. this will be hard for me since I have less experience with bowling.how to hold a ball. for a fast bowler they should hold there index and middle figure together, with the rest of the other figures on the next side of the ball.

and the Spinner hold the with 3 fingure using the thumb to spin the ball, and you can also use you wrist.

After talking to them for this 5 mins.
I will give them the next 5 mins of Warm up. to get there muscle lose.. nothing hard but just simple thing.

I will now carry them to the nets.
(5 Net there have,i think, but i will say 5 nets)

I will give each Batsman 5 mins each to bat so When everyone get a batting it would be about 30min, but because these are new players to the game it would take about 45mins min. trying to get everyone, they turn to bat, since many love to bat. according to the teaching of each player
my Calculation 5 batsman batting at a time, so I would have 25 bowlers. 5 bowlers per batsman.
When letting bowl and Bat, I will see how they handle, everything, if i see them making a mistake i will help them out, I would try not to be very harass on them, since they don't much about the game as yet, just let them have fun, and try to enjoy them self, while playing the game.
According to the time I would have completed about 1 hour.

I try my best to fit in that 1 hour, but i wish i had more time, so i can actually, give the player more batting and bowling practice, so i can find some errors which i can correct, I had fun with the kids, and I just hope they like the game, because I tried my best to satisfied the players, give them there freedom and not put many rules on them, just the simple rules of Cricket.

Seems Odd that the Hampshire Cricket Academy is trying out kids who have never played Cricket before, But either way, it seems only logical that There be two teams of people, with a simple rotation policy being used. So with that being said Ill introduce my plans for the Hampshire youth.

First Half Hour, New Players

Ill be working more closely with these people then I will be with the more experienced players, as they obviously need more attention. Ill be working with these people mostly as A group, teaching how to hold the bat and ball, and experimenting with the people individually, helping them decide on whether they think they suite batting or bowling more. The batters will have a tennis ball bowled at them by the people who prefer bowling. With myself happy to help each person with there run up or holding the bat properly.

First Half Hour, Experienced Players

These people don't need as much attention obviously since they already know the basics of cricket. So all these people really need is a good net session. Everyone including bowlers will get a good chance at batting so they have the chance to improve batting. Pure batters will obviously get a bit longer batting section then the bowlers to give the batters more batting practice and the bowlers more bowling practice. During this time Ill still be stopping over every 10 or so minutes to help run up problems or anything else that may occur.

Second Half Hour, New Players

Once the new players have had a bit of practice and learned the basics of this fine game. It will be time to put them into practice in the nets. Again Ill be helping with any run up issues and helping the batsman as well as I can. Just like the first Net session the batsmen will more then likely have a longer Net session then the bowlers, but since we are just starting off, the gaps won't be as big.

Second Half hour, Experienced Players

The Second half hour for the more experienced players will be a simple field session with Two batters and Bowlers doing ordinary overs. This will help simulate a game experience and see how they do with a proper game simulation. Batsmen and bowlers will again rotate regularly and everyone will get at least one go at each.

Conclusion

Hopefully the rotation system would work well and help the newbies to start of cricket as a proper sport and help Hampshire notice the future stars of their county and Possibly their country

Well in a training session with an academy, I would do a number of things,

Warm up and stretching

I would explain to the kids how warming up and stretching is a crucial part of any sport. I would remind them of why it's important and I would tell them what stretches to do, I would also make them jog around the outfield once to warm them up. Then I would do the stretces with the kids to show them how to do it.

Next 45 mins. 1st 20-25 mins. Nets.
I would then go onto doing a good 20-25 mins nets session. I would divide kids into their ability based on their honest opinion. I would put the kids who are experienced in a group and inexperienced kids in a group so that the kids can build up confidence, I will spend more time with the inexperienced kids showing them and telliing them how to be a good fast bowler like Brett Lee or Glen McGrath etc. I will also work with the kids who are batting as well showing them good shots to play for different balls and I will also work on the keeping as well.
Last 25-20 mins. Match or Fielding practice

For the final bit of the practice session I would either play a match or do fielding practice. I would divide the kids into two teams/groups at random. Then I would pick the bowler and batsmen and the batting team would be sat well away for a match and the kids who aren't batting during fielding practice will field. The batsman will hit the kids high catches or low catches. I will demonstrate other fielding drill as well.

Conclusion
I feel like my plan for a training lesson will be a good help to the kids and also make them want to play in the worst of conditions.

Firstly I would ask the kids how many of them had already played cricket. To the ones that had I would firstly teach them how to play the forward defensive because if you have a solid defence you are less likely to get out and therefore you are more likely to make big scores. I would then teach them how to play the straight drive, and if they pick it up quickly, the on and off drives. If they are very good and pick that up quickly, I can try and teach them the reverse sweep. I know that they won't get to play this shot much in match situations, but this is an exciting shot and it will probably keep the kids interested.

To the people that had not played cricket, I would first teach them how to hold the bat, by putting your right hand near the top and putting your left underneath it, and then how to bowl properly. I would tell them to get into pairs and practise the skills they have learnt. I would blow my whistle every five minutes and tell them to swap batting and bowling. I would save ten minutes at the end to bring the kids together, and play a mini-match. Everybody has one shot, and instead of running, I will give them runs for how well they play the shot, six being perfect.

Adam Hornbuckle

First of all i will ask the childrens to follow me to do warm ups and stretches for atleast 5-10 minutes.Next i will ask who have played cricket before and who haven't played it.And group them seperately.I will be concentrating more on teh Newbies than the one who have played cricket before.

Newbies

I will first ask who are all willing to become a batsman and who are all willing to be a bowler whilst they are been given instructions about Batsmans/Bowlers.First i will give practice session to all of them saying how to hold the bats. After they are being thorough in holding the bats they will be given a demonstration by me how to play defensive shots. And will be practised this for atleast half an hour.As a next task i will go to bowling and say how to hold the ball as a Pace bowler and as a Spinner and will show them a demo how to bowl. After this i will ask them to bowl whilst i will face it and will note their mistakes and will correct it later.I will just show a demo to all of them who were interested to become a Batsman how to play aggressive shots which are easier to them. And also will show the bowlers how to swing/spin a ball. And i will again go to the basic things inorder to recollect the skills.I will be stopping still this and will work out with the ones who have played Cricket before. And also i will give practice of Fielding to them.I will finish with these activities in just 20 mins.

Played Ones

Well i know these guys would be knowing how to hold the bat/ball.So i will be practising them defensive shots only for 5 mins as they are experienced already. After this i will be giving practice for these players about Aggressive shots and will concentrate on this a lot. After they are been completely practised for 10 mins and get the ability to hit a sixer/four each of them will be asked to bowl their known delivaries and will be given more practice where they are going wrong and will be given only 10 mins for this.I mostly will be looking for more All Rounders from this group. These kids will be given practice in fielding for 5 mins.

Conclusion

As a conclusion i will be asking questions about what are all done today and will give some more hints and tips in words so that they will be able to remember it in the last 5 minutes.I will ask each and everyone to practice everyday by conducting a match between them.

1 hour with a bunch of kids? That can't be good.

I'll start off by tiring the lot of them - jogging around, sprints, warmups. After all, a good cricketer needs to be in shape. These kids are probably all flabby thanks to video games, and hyped on sugar. 20 minutes of my intense work out will get them in shape. Some of them will vomit, a few will faint. The good part is that they will all be warmed up, and too tired to complain when I tell them what comes next.

Then comes batting practice. As everyone knows, your top hand is all that matters. So I'll tell them all to hold the bat in their top hand only, and repeat driving the ball a million times with just one hand. Little plastic cones with a ball on top are placed in front of them, and this is done till they all are able to hit the ball consistently. Or for another 20 minutes. Whichever takes longer. There arms will feel like crap after that. They'll be moaning in pain, many would want to quit. But a strong top hand is essential for a good cricketer.

Then comes the fun part, bowling! They all get to bowl...to me! And those who don't want to bowl because they are 'batsmen' or 'keepers' or 'injured' can all go and field. Now these kids are clearly rubbish, and you don't want to inflate their self-esteem by making them think they are good, so I'll go out of my way to whack them about everywhere. Teach them a lesson that cricket is harder than they think. And most of them will be running out of the way or ducking when the ball comes to them, so I'll target those kids the most. Cricket isn't for the soft, if they aren't willing to take a cricket ball to the body, then they shouldn't be here. There might be some screaming at this time, and definately some bruises and bruised egos.

So that wraps up the one hour. They walk in enthusiastic and energetic, but walk out broken, tired and de-moralised. But they learn that cricket isn't for the weak. It isn't a sissy game, and that if they aren't willing to go through some pain, they are never going to play at the highest level. They'll hate me for this now, but I have taught them a valuable lesson that they will thank me for later. Cricket isn't about cover drives or knowing how to bowl a googly, it is about heart. Cricket isn't a game for the soft, and if they thought it was, then I hope I have changed their opinion.

Teaching the children in which some had never played cricket is a tough task. But firstly i would tell them about Money, Glamour and Popularity which had made cricket famous. I am pretty sure the children will then start taking interest. Now about practise, as i am a pure bowler my first aim would be teaching them about correct gripping of the ball which is neccesarry for the good delivery. I would also teach them how to use conditions to make one's bowling impressive. I would also teach them how to make batsman play a shot which you want and how to bowl according to field settings. I would teach them about gripping of ball in different deliveries like swing, yorker, bouncer etc. I would work with them to improve their bowling action. I would teach them about position of finger in different deliveries. Now as far as batting is concerned i have also given some neccesarry tips for it. I would teach them the correct way to hold the bat and the position of leg while facing the bowler. I would also work with them on the tips for facing different types of bowl + i would tell them to practice as much as they can.

the topic is about getting youngsters interested in cricket ..so my first aim would be to influence them to take up the game seriously ....
for the first 10 mins .... i would jst tell them about the great players and wht they did to be great....
the next 10 mins would be spent in telling them about the scope of the game ...
the seriousness in which it should be played..
the next half hour would be spent in knowing the basics and catching practices !!!

and the last 20 mins would be spent in givin them a bit of homework .... so that they come to the training ground next time prepared

LOL just an hour. Well in the first 10 min and so I'll would teach them the basic stretches and how vital is it to warm up.

For 30 minutes i would teach them how to hold the bat and will teach them the forward block and the off drive and the on drive just to get them primed and ready. Then i would teach them how to bowl right arm fast for right handers and left arm for leftys.

For the last 20 minutes i would give them a catching session just to gear them for the match which they will play happily with my guidance. Then when it finishes i will give them a Q&A session then it is finished :happy

I?m not sure if some of you actually want to win. I am very unimpressed. I know exactly who I have to bring back tomorrow, Ayub and Amiya, you two scored the lowest score out of everyone.
