Story The Origin Of Test Cricket:IvoBligh's XI in Australia;1882-83;3rd Test; Two innings in one day!!!

Second Test;Test No.6:

Sydeny Cricket Ground,17th February 1882(Timeless Test)

The two met at Sydeny for the Second Test Match.Horan was the man who had been widly criticized for throwing off his wicket at a crucial junction. His captain Murdoch defended his deicsion to go for a slog.He told Wisden"Horan was instructed to go for the big one as Boyle wasn't playing well. Our tactic was to creep near to the target.Horan had shielded Boyle wonderfully.I personally had given him a thumbs up for the shot.Sadly, it did not turn out as well as we expected."Horan's house was attacked by mob who blamed him for their losses on betting.Australia bought in two new players G.Coulthard and S.Jones to strenghten their bowling. This would be Coulthard's only test as Within two years he had died of consumption.
Englishmen went for a hunting trip in the meanwhile and are confident of going 2-0 up in the series.

Second Test;Day1;Lunch

England made a seadte start to the innings.Coulthard was the most immpressive on his debut. He was infact to claim both of the wickets to fall, both caught by Massie, trying to sweep.

Ulyett has scores 43 off 79 balls.England have moved to 70/2 afetr 26 overs before lunch.Giving him company is Bates with 4 off 10 balls.Coulthard has figures of 8-5-14-2 with his medium pace thus far.Pretty impressive stuff from him.He, at 22 had umpired in a Test match in Sydeny in 1878 which was marred by rioting over a run out decision.

With Ulyett at the creace, we may expect some good scores as well. lets see how this turns up.

A very nice impressive neat story. Keep this going. :thumbs

this is a great story. love how its back in time top notch stuff

Thank you all for your support.Post lunch session coming up soon.

Day 1;Tea Time

By tea time,England are 157/5 off 52 overs. The match is delicately poised.A couple of wickets and Australia get into the tail. However, Ulyett is still holding his fort with a sedate 74 off 142 balls.Scotton is giving him company at 11 off 39 balls.

Bates was the first to go.His pull landing in safe hands of Horan off Boyle. The next ball, Shrewbury was beaten for pace and Boyle ran to Mid-On to hold onto a brilliant catch.

Ulyett keeps one end safe and reaches his fifty off 92 balls.

Midwinter is the third wicket to fall in the session. He is decived in flight and bowled. He already yards down the pitch and would have been easily stumped by Blackham.

Boyle has amazing figures of 5-0-16-2.Coulthard has 11-6-23-2.Australian bowlers haven't let Englishmen run away with the match.

Ulyett and Scotton add 55 runs before Ulyett departs for 88.He tries to run the ball down to the third man but is bowled.

Scotton is the next one to go at 196.He tries to hook Coulthard but is caught by Boyle.

Emmett and Shaw use long handle effectively to add 38 runs for 8th wicket, before Emmett is runout. He commits the cardinal sin of not grounding his bat.
Shaw follows him when he is trapped by Garrett.

Pilling is the last man out, trapped legbefore by Garrett.

England have done reasonably well to finish at 258 at the fag end of the day.Austalia safetly negotiate 4 overs before the close of play.Tommorrow the first session will be crucial.Australia would try not to lose too many wickets and pile up in the afternoon and evening sessions.Coulthard has taken four wickets on debut. He is the first man to do it.

The next day, Australia were having troublescoring.Massie was the first to go.He tried to run the ball down to the third man but played down the wrong line and was leg before.
Evans, batting at No.3 was run out, going for a suicidal run.He added 29 runs with Blackham.
Blackham, tried to hook a short one and was snapped by Shaw.
Horan ventured a bit too far out off his crease and was duly stumped by Selby.Australia in a bid of bother here with 4 down for 60.They need a partnership.Peate and Midwinter bowling brilliantly right now.

Aussies in a bit of trouble at the moment. England are doing really well. Hopefully they can rip through the middle order

Wickets continue to tumble as Mcdonnell sweeps Bates straight into the waiting hands of Midwinter.
Jones stretched forward to a ball pitched up and yorked himself.
Garrett tried to drive a ball too close to his body and was snapped in the slips by Midwinter.
Palmer's defensive prod ends up in the safe hands of Barlow.

At 8 for 90, Australia seems to have given up without the fight. The overnight rain has again helped the bowlers, especially Bates, who has ripped out the heart of Australian batting.

Australia are all out for 103 in just 22 overs as last two wickets fell in a heap.Boyle's uppish cut goes to Bates and Coulthard's dream of a perfect debut is ruined as he is run out for 8.England lead by 155 runs. And at lunch on Day Two, scales are tilted more in England's favor.Apart from taking a catch,Bates has figures of 4.2-0-28-5.Murdoch remains not out on 22.
