Story The Origin Of Test Cricket:IvoBligh's XI in Australia;1882-83;3rd Test; Two innings in one day!!!

The Test starts with great conditions for playing.Australia bringing back Bannermann and Giffen.Coulthard gets left out after a great debut.Evans also not playing this test.

England made a solid start. They move easily to 52, with wicket giving little help to the bowlers.Garrett, bowling first change bowls a slower one which Barlow plays back.First blood for Australia.
Ulyett, on 25, becomes the first man to score 500 runs in tes cricket. But, he leaves shortly when his cut lands into safe hands of Bannermann at point off Palmer.

Messers Garrett and Bannerman combine to get rid of Bates for a duck.Selby's poor tour continues .He falls leg before to Palmer for 11.At 75 for 4, england are in a bit of bother but Shrewsbury and Midwinter combine forces and take England to 107 off 27 overs by lunch.

Shrewsbury 19(34)
Midwinter 21(43)
Garrett:6-0-37-2
Palmer:14-2-44-2

Palmer has bowled unchanged and bowled well.Giffen hasn't taken a wicket but he has been testing the batsmen.

England in trouble again. why doesnt't it surprise me

Day 1;Tea

Post lunch session doesnot start too well for England.Shrewsburry falls to a controversial catch by Massie off Garrett.Umpires ruled Shrewsburry out "by the word of honor of the fielding gentleman" but English camp wasn't totally convinced.
Garrett held onto a stinger off Scotton.

A Garrett inspired mini-collapse.England slip from 6/129 to 8/131.Emmett holes out to Palmer at Long-On while Shaw is another victim of Bannermann and Garrett combination.Garrett has now 6 wickets.

Midwinter moves to his fifty off 87 balls. He has 11 fours in there. At 172 for 7, Midwinter is keeping Australia at bay.

At tea, England have the upper hand as they move onto 206/8.Midwinter is unbeaten at 66 while Pilling is in with him at 39.They have added 75 invaluable runs.Considering the pitches, this is a big partnership.

England 206/8
Midwinter:66*(111)
Pilling:39*(54)
Garrett:12-1-56-6

Midwinter and Pilling are doing an excellent recovery job for England.

It is great to see this story getting a lot more posts now. Keep up the excellent work

Pilling soon reaches his fifty off just 65 balls with 9 fours. He has supported Midwinter superbly.Australia have been guilty of bowling to short as evident from the wagon wheel.A lot of runs on onside, behind square.
The score moves onto 259 when Pilling plays the pull shot once too often and Mcdonnell takes ablinder over his shoulder.

Peate is the man to go, caught at wicket by Blackham off Giffen.

England end at a reapectable 267 after being 8 down for 131.Midwinter is left stranded at 89 robbed of what would have been a brilliant hundred.Garrett didnot bowl after Tea, which allowed the 9th wicket partnership of 128 to flourish.

Australia run into trouble immediately. They end the day at 4/20 off 8 overs.Peate has 3/7 off 4 overs.
Bannermann is the first one to go, without scoring.Murdoch falls the next ball and Peate is on a hattrick which is denied by Mcdonnell. From 2/5, Australia move to 20 before Massie is tricked and stumped.Mcdonnell also falls on the same score caught by Midwinter off Bates.Horan and Giffen see off the day without any more damage. But they have an uphill task tommorrow.

Horan0*(1)
Giffen0*(1)

Mcdonnell is criticised heavily for throwing away his wicket on the penultimate ball of the day. After his exploits in the last test, much more was expected off him.But lets not forget that we had a great day of cricket.
