Story The Origin Of Test Cricket:IvoBligh's XI in Australia;1882-83;3rd Test; Two innings in one day!!!

I don't read much stories these days because most of them are just sub-standard to be honest, but this is fantastic.

Thank You for the compliment!!

Can I take that "fantastic" description for loosing 9 wickets of Aussies in such a low score. :p ( just kidding )

On a serious note, there is no doubts that this has been a well written/neatly written classic story. Hard works are well reflected in this thread. Outstanding effort. :hpraise

Need I say that you have been an inspirational and a great help. Thanks a lot!!

To lose 9 wickets for only 94 runs is horrible. Though you must give credit to the English bowlers, they have done an excellent job.

The Australian innings lasts exactly one over after lunch. Boyle is trapped leg before by Studd and Australia fold up for just 98. There is a loud cheer around as Peate leads the team back, him being the leading wicket taker for the innings. His captain is mighty pleased as well. Awesome bowling by England.

With the skies getting greyer during the break and the smell of rain in the air, Australians run onto field. Spofforth and Garrett do their warm ups. All eyes are on English camp as they take their own sweet time to descend the steps to the ground. Aussies are not all impressed by this show of lethargy. But no one can blame Barlow and Grace waiting for rain as no one would fancy taking on the Demon Spofforth under grey skies.

Spofforth proves too hard to handle. Both batsmen are beaten by the swing and the pace. Garrett, although a triffle slower isn?t easy meat for the batsmen either. Spofforth has the first blood as Murdoch hangs to an overhead catch off Barlow?s bat. Barlow makes only 4.
Grace, feeling restrained and not his usual fluent self, tries to hit out of trouble but his hook shot is pouched by a delighted Boyle off Garrett. Two down for 13.

Ulyett and lucas take the score onto 27 before Spofforth gets the prized scalp of Ulyett. Horan holding onto a tumbling catch at covers. Lyttleton walks out but has to retreat as the clouds open up and everyone runs for cover. An early tea is called for with England perilously poised at 3 for 27 off 11 overs.

Australia:98
England:27/3
Lucas:5*(12)
Lyttleton:0*(1)
Spofforth:6-2-19-2

Shocking to see Australia bowled out for a low total but England are also struggling with their batting. England need a partnership at this stage.

Great work and this is the best C2002 story ever :clap

Wow are the batsmen drunk? :p The bowlers on both teams must be loving it out there. England need a couple of batsmen to capitalise on the low score from the Aussies and build up a solid lead.

Great work mate, superb update :)

Engalnd are blown away by the might and force of Spofforth. Under the grey skies, Spofforth breathes fire,he takes 6 for 28 as England fall apart and fold like a pack of cards, only for 87. Lucas's mistimed shot off Jones ends in Massie's hands off Jones while Lyttleton feeble attempt at hook is snapped by Garrett off Spofforth. Read and Barnes take the score to 80 while spofforth rests. Read's innings is cut short at 30 when a mishit is snapped by Horan off Garrett. The rest are easy prey to Spofforth.Barnes is caught off inside edge by Blackham while Steel's defensive prod finds its way into Murdoch's hand at silly point. A bewildered Hornby is clueless while Bonnor runs around from second slip to hold onto a skier. Studd is the last wicket to fall. Spofforth is cheered all the way to pavillion.
Wisden compares it to a dragon breathing fire and blowing away all the opposition as they were just straws.

Wow, what a great low scoring conteste from both the teams. Spectators are mainly/mostly/Vastly benefitted. Fantastic.

Keep up the fantastic works. :clap

Either someone has drugged all the batsmen or else the bowlers are on steroids. The end result is really exciting and great to watch.

Keep up the excellent work mate :)

No further play was possible today due to rain. There was however buzz around the ground that either the players were high on whisky/brandy or there were some serious bets being won by the players.
John Wisden quashed all such notions in his article" The players were not done in by alcohol or else but by the conditions and the bowlers who were crafty enough to exploit the conditions. It is pretty common these days to see players drunk in first class cricket but amongst the gentlemen playing this game, thats a rarity.Players like Grace and Spofforth might like to end their day with a whisky on the rocks but never during the game. The Englishmen were undone by their own fears. Seeing Australia collapse earlier, they saw demons in the pitch and this was fully exploited by the colonials, especially Spofforth. He bowled unchanged, cranked up and gave up the ball back only when he saw the back of the last Englishmen.Lets all sit back and enjoy this low score thriller, without questioning the players integrity and salute their skills."
Coming soon: Day2
