In the early hours of the morning, at Punt rd Oval, saw a highly entertaining game between Hubbas and Warwickshire Bears. The Bears won the toss and elected to field, however the pitch was hard & fast and looked absolutely perfect for batting. And it was, Hubbas, in their 50 Overs posted a massive 299 runs, with a superb unbeaten knock of 123* from 18 year old Rajesh Taylor, and it came in just 112 balls. Just 3 wickets fell in the innings, with left arm spinner Armstrong picking up the first scalp of the day claiming a thin edge off William Randall who was dismissed for 32, and then Liam Roache was caught trying to hit Rogan out of the ground, he departed with a very good 61 runs. The final wicket fell when Hubbas wicket keeper Fitz Horrigan trying to sneak a run, but was eventually ran out for 66 off 59 balls. Hubbas would have been very happy with their batting, but we all knew it was a batting pitch. The Bears needed 300 to win.
Battling through on moderate fitness, Bears talisman Keith Rowntree managed a brilliantly entertaining 109 before being clean bowled by Geoff Frans. Captain Jason Stamp made a very good knock of 67 before being caught & bowled by Ricky Hornsby. And it was all Warwickshire from there, hitting Hubbas all round the park and eventually smashed the runs off getting the winning runs in the 49.4th over, with 17 year old David Dliza making another good knock of 87 off just 62 balls after a double ton on his debut in an FC match last week, and Fran De bruyn helped him there with a comfortable 34 off 22 balls. The Bears finished on a massive 301 from 49.2 overs. A great game which could have swung either way.
The final result was Warwickshire Bears bt Hubbas by 8 wickets.
