India r pretty much on top here sai, great bowling

yes.. even though a dead match, india should play very well here to boost their confidence ahead of the NZ tour. The fielding today is unusually great!!!

Sri Lanka building a good partnership!

Sri Lanka 101/3 - 25 overs
K Sangakkara 28* (44)
M Jayawardena 29* (23)
A Kumble 3/28 (6)

Sri Lanka rebuild after the early loss of the first 3 wickets! Sangakkara and Jayawardena are right now batting sensibly and building a good platform for a late innings dash at a commanding total. Both of them are not taking too much risks. Jaywardena, in particular, played some beautiful sweep shots that can be awarded the shots of the match! Indian bowlers bowling pretty tightly but they also need wickets if they want to ensure Sri lanka doesnt reach anything above 250 as it can become really difficult for India to chase on this dry wicket against the likes of Murali, Chandana, Jayasuriya and Dilshan!

Indian selectors - Tough job on hand!

Triangular tournament - England as the third team!

The Indian selectors as they watch the final ODI, have a tough job on hand selecting the squad for the first leg of the New Zealand tour.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's cricket board has announced that it has scrapped the 5 match ODI series between India and New Zealand and is accomadating a triangular ODI tournament between India, New Zealand and England. Since England's next assignment against Bangladesh is only in May, they will be taking this time off to participate in this triangular tournament. The fixtures are

Triangular tournament

India vs England - At Dunedin
New Zealand vs England - At Dunedin
India vs New Zealand - At Christchurch
India vs England -At Wellington
New Zealand vs England - At Auckland
India vs New Zealand - At Auckland
Final - At Wellington

Each teams play two matches against the other two teams and the top two teams will qualify for the finals at Wellington. In case of a tie in points, the top two teams will be decided on the net run rate which will be calculated throughout the tournament.

After this tournament, India will commence their two test series against New Zealand with a tour match. So the Indian selectors today will be picking their 15 man one day squad for the triangular tournament! Watch out for this space! This is gonna be exciting with some of the top ODI teams clashing it out!

Sri Lanka in a good position!

Sri Lanka 189/3 - 40 overs
K Sangakkara 58* (87)
M Jayawardena 64* (85)
A Kumble 3/28 (6)

Sri Lanka have placed themselves in a very good position now to go for the final dash towards a target above 250 which will be a tough job for the Indians to chase. This series has seen pitches where these kind of 250+ totals have been very challenging to chase.

After the third wicket, India are finding it very difficult to prise out these two batsmen. Both are placing a value for their runs and its a tough job for the bowlers out in the field. Tendulkar has bowled 8 overs so far for 32 runs and looks the rare bowler to keep the Lankans in check. Kumble and Khan is being saved for the later overs when the Lankans make a dash.

Both Sangakkara and Jayawardena have played priceless innings and if they remain till the 45th over, its ominous signs for India who are trying to salvage some pride by winning the final ODI international!

Sri Lanka end with a respectable 251/7!!

India require 252 to win the final ODI to make this series 3-2
M.Jayawardena 85*
C Vaas 24* (10)
A Kumble 5/52 (10)

Sri Lanka blast the last two overs to reach a respectable and a challenging total at the end of their alloted 50 overs. Vaas was in full form, blasting Anil Kumble for 4 fours in the last over, scoring 18 runs off the last over to end their innings. Jayawardena remained unbeaten on a very fine 85*. For India, Kumble was their star bowler picking up 5 wickets for 52 runs and had he tightened the last over a bit, he would have finished with far superior figures.

Sri Lanka were 211/3 when Sangakkara was dismissed trying to clear deep square leg and was caught for 66. Then next ball, Chandana skied a ball down the ground and was caught by Zaheer Khan. Kumble was on a hat trick for the second time in the match (Jayawardena warded off the hattrick ball in Kumble's next over!). Then, Dilshan was clean bowled by Kumble when he tried to cover drive a straight one from Kumble. And then Khan cleaned up Maharoof who lofted a ball to deep mid off and Agarkar took a good diving catch.

India now require 252 runs to win at a little over 5 runs per over. Considering that this match is a pride salvager for them and Sri Lanka still hungry for another win, this should set up this exciting contest!!
