ok, in that case, the team with the better scoring rate in the final would be declared the winner of the tournament. There will be a trophy winner here!

England surprisingly elect to bowl first!

INDIA BAT FIRST IN THE ADIDAS CUP FINAL!

97098721.jpg

Welcome to the Wellington cricket ground for the start of one of the most exciting finals in the current cricket season between India and England. The final is to determine the winner of the Adidas ODI trophy for which India and England are battling out along with New Zealand who have become the third team. Lets get down to the final with a track record of India-England finals.

India-England Final record:
Total Finals played: 3
India win: 2
England win: 1
India win ratio: 67%
Highest Indian total: 326
Lowest Indian total: 219
Highest England total: 325
Lowest England total: 213

India have the overwhelming advantage entering this final and going by history, an Indian victory is predicted here also. But as Ganguly's theory goes, one should not look too much into history!

Pitch Report

Lets get down to the pitch report with Tony Greig.

T.Greig: Hello gentlemen. The pitch looks flat and true and should remain the same way throughout the game. Look here (Greig tries to insert a key into the pitch and the key doesnt go too much into it!). This key doesnt go too much into the pitch. This means that the pitch is truly Hard and should favor the batsmen for the whole game. Some footmarks are visible but that shouldnt help the bowlers much. The bowlers, if they bend their backs can get some rewards but still its a batsmen's game. A total of 290 or above should place the side batting first in a very good position to win this game!

Lets get down to the toss with the two captains. Saurav Ganguly makes a comeback to the side and takes over the captaincy from Rahul Dravid. Tony Greig and the match referee Ranjan Madugalle along with both captains. Greig asks Ganguly to toss the coin. Ganguly tosses the coin. Vaughan calls Heads and heads it is!

T.Greig: Your call Vaughnie?
M.Vaughan: We would have a bowl first!

97098715.jpg

T.Greig: Thats a surprising decision!!!
M.Vaughan: Actually, the wicket gets to be a better batting track after the first hour or so. So, the opposition is at a disadvantage when they bat first as they have to contend with one hour of a wicket "not at its best batting form". We want to take advantage of that.

T.Greig: So, whats the changes in your team?
M.Vaughan: Alex Wharf comes in for Darren Gough.

97098850.jpg

T.Greig: Thanks Vaughan. Welcome back Saurav. I guess you must be happy with Vaughan's decision.

Saurav: Yes of course. I never expected him to elect to bowl first. The wicket is Hard and true. And I dont agree with his opinion. The wicket is not going to be menacing to start with. It has some moisture on it but every wicket has some moisture to start with. We hope to put up a total around 290-300 to put enormous pressure on their batting line up which is very close to world class.

T.Greig: So you should be a change to your team's line up sheet? Who is being replaced?

Saurav: I am replacing Yuvraj. Sad that Yuvraj is being replaced but Jadeja seems to be in good form and we do not want to drop an experienced in form batsman. No other changes. Kumble, Kartik, Khan and Nehra form the bowling attack.

T.Greig: So gentleman, Vaughan has won the toss and surprisingly has decided to have a bowl first.

**********************************
Dean Jones: A surprising decision from the England captain. Wonder what made him chose to bowl. Lets see if he is proved right or wrong with his decision.

R.Shastri: Good afternoon to the Sky Sports viewers! The match to start in a few minutes. The players are emerging out of their dressing rooms. To start with, its going to be myself and Dean Jones to start with in the commentary box. And the news from the Indian dressing room is tat Saurav Ganguly is going to open along with Sachin Tendulkar. Looks to be a wise decision from the Indian captain! Sehwag has been relegated to the position of a pinch hitter at No.3

Indian openers rock Wellington!

GANGULY BACK AND INTO FULL FORM - INDIA 95/0
S.Ganguly 43*
S.Tendulkar 31*

The Indian openers have stormed Wellington with a aggressive display of batting that has left England gasping for breath. And the Indian captain Saurav Ganguly has finally roared back to form with belligerent 43* that will do him a lot of good. His shot selection was almost perfect today and it seemed as if nothing would go wrong for this southpaw from Bengal who took on the bowlers from England.

Sachin Tendulkar, who started off too slowly, picked up momentum to play his trademark powerful shots to intersect the field. His innings is a mixture of caution combined with brutal aggression. The best shot of the day was from him, when he stomped a straight drive down the track which went for four. This partnership of his with Ganguly reminds the viewers of their terrific pairing in the 90's when they were involved in many century partnerships.

India have been scoring at nearly 7 runs per over in the first 15 over. Even with a 1 run drop to the scoring rate, India can easily cross 300 which would then be a mountain for England to climb and to win the trophy. A blazing start to India and they are leading in this match now!

Wow what a start by india....Come on Tendulkar and Ganguly - we want big Scores this time

Oh no,Ganguly's back in form :(

Hope he won't reach a 50,or a 100

England back in the game - India 156/3

England back in the game - grab three quick wickets!
India 156/3 (24 overs)
Saurav Ganguly 63
Sachin Tendulkar 31
M.Kaif 2
V.Sehwag 20*

A sudden turnaround in this game saw England bouncing back with 3 quick wickets to put India on the backfoot. India after the 15th over, lost a wicket off the very first ball when Sachin was run out to a misunderstanding with Ganguly. Ganguly hit a ball to the on side and Sachin called for a non existent single. Ganguly hesitated but finally decided to run. Pietersen threw the ball to the keeper to find Sachin short of his ground.

Sehwag joined Ganguly and both of them started flaying the England bowlers again. Sehwas resumed from where Tendulkar left off. Ganguly duly reached his half century, a rare occurence for him these days with his prolonged bad form. He was visibly excited and waved towards the pavilion. His bad form was talked about widely and this was a vital innings that might do him a world of good.

ganguly501rq.jpg

Just when one thought Ganguly might go on to make a big hundred, the Indian fans received a jolt when Ganguly was clean bowled by Alex Wharf. A seaming ball from Wharf to which Ganguly had no clue. The ball beat Ganguly's bat and and entered the gate between bat and pad to knock down Ganguly's leg stump. Ganguly was terribly disappointed on having missed this opportunity to score a century here. But still, a very good innings by him since he has been under immense pressure always to score!

ganulybowled3nf.jpg

Mohammed Kaif was the next to go and this was a terrific ball from Andrew Flintoff. Kaif tried to straight drive the ball but as it happened with Ganguly, the ball seamed in to knock Kaif's stump but here, the seam was more and visible from Andrew Flintoff. Kaif could not believe his luck as he had to walk back to the pavilion. England and Flintoff were surprised and celebrated the wicket!

kaifbowled5sa.jpg

England have done very well to come back into this game. But still, India;s run rate is a healthy 6.6 per over with Rahul and Sehwag in the middle. If England can snare Sehwag and Jadeja, then they might fancy their chances of restricting India to a low total which they can easily chase down to win the trophy!
