As far as I know if a team is all out, then in the calculation of the net run rate, the entire 50 overs (in this case, 49 overs) are taken, no matter how many overs is used up by the team.

For example if a team is all out for 150 in 35 overs in a 50 over match, then to calculate the NRR, the team scored is divided by 50. (The RR of the opposition is subtracted from the RR of the team to get the NRR.)

Also unlike the SA vs AUS 1999 WC semifinal which was a Knockout game, this one is a group game, and hence in case of a tied score, 3 points must be awarded to both teams. (Which means NZ should play the final in place of England:crying )

Thanks for explaning that Siddarth. Anyways I did not know those calculations. So I just took it by the scoring rate at which the teams scored their runs. May be in my next series, I will use this calculation since I know it through you know!

I think we may see full house for the finals, anychanges in playing XI sai

Both playing XI's cant be decided now as the pitch is being guarded very heavily as a secret. The strong rumor around in New Zealand is that we might have a cracking batting pitch again for the final since we have had good matches so far and the NZB wants the final to be well contested too. But lets see what we have in store. and both the XI's will be decided on the pitch offered.

Will announce the pitch tomorrow so that Siddarth can select the England XI

Match Report & Presentation Ceremony

otherstats4wi.jpg

We have all witnessed a great match between the two sides who have been giving us great matches this series. India and New Zealand have tied this match but the sad thing is that, New Zealand have been beaten to the final by England who have had a better scoring rate. The run rate system has been a bit controversial this series with the organisers going by the scoring rate as the difference between the teams. But the truth is, New Zealand certainly deserved a place in the final for their pluck in the final two matches.

The Indian innings was good although India kept losing regular wickets to avoid them from finishing it off easily. Tendulkar and Sehwag began with a flourish but Tendulkar got out at a wrong time. Yuvraj immediately followed and India were in trouble. But Sehwag and Kaif built around well until Sehwag got out. Then Kaif and Dravid forged a good partnership. Dravid got out bowled and then it was a case of the batsmen getting out interspersed with some good batting to bring down the required runs. In the end, it was a tie.

Presentation Ceremony:

M.Crowe; We have all witenessed dramatic scenes here. A tied match followed by an exit for the home team from the tournament. First, I would like to call upon Stephen Fleming to the dias to collect the "Third Team of the tournament" cheque. Sorry Fleming. It has been disappointing for NZ in the end when we deserved a final spot.

Fleming: Yes. Terribly disappointed. I would not like to blame the system that determined the final spot because we knew it right from the start of the series. We should have kept that in mind when scoring. But when Khan and Nehra brought it down to just 1 run needed, we thought we might tie it and enter the final. We had forgotten the scoring rate calculation. But when the umpire said it to us, we were shocked! But thats how the game goes.

M.Crowe: About your game in this series?
Fleming: We played poorly in the first two games but we bounced back wonderfully in the last two. We are just unlucky to miss the final berth. Credit goes to India to not letting complacency cloud their game. They had no importance here in this result but still played to win. I wish them all the best in the final! But I also wish they lose some confidence coming into the two test series.

M.Crowe: Good luck for the test series. Now, I would like to call the Indian captain Rahul Dravid. Well, a 50-50 game for both sides here Rahul. What do you feel?

Dravid: We are happy because we prefer a tie more than a defeat. A defeat would have meant that we lose our confidence and also facing New Zealand in a final after losing to them would have dented our confidence even more.

M.Crowe: What do you think about Sehwag and Kaif's innings?
Dravid: Outstanding. They played very well to take us close to the NZ total. But when we were 222/7 and lost Kaif, we almost lost hope. But luckily, Khan and Nehra tied it for us.

M.Crowe: Thanks Rahul and all the best for the final. Now for the Man of the match. A straight forward choice. It goes to the first centurion of the series, Nathan Astle.

(Astle picks his award from the dias!)

M.Crowe: Congrats Astle but sad luck your team quits the tournament before the final.

Astle:Yes. We are terribly disappointed. We should have won here. But we let the tail enders score some easy runs which counted against us in the end.

M.Crowe: You are the first centurion this tournament. How does that feel?
Astle: Great. Its nice to score a century when others have not. But this tournament has been about close matches and so centuries have been non existent.

M.Crowe: Thanks Astle and good luck for the tests. Thats all we have here from Auckland. Hope you enjoyed our telecast. Join you at Wellington for the final between India and England. Till then, its bye bye from Crowe and our studios.

INDIA VS ENGLAND - CLASH OF THE TITANS!

INDIA VS ENGLAND - FINAL CLASH FOR THE TITANS

So now, this series is down to the finale. This series has seen it all - easy victories, low scoring game, last ball victories, a tied match, etc. This series has also seen the players play out of their skins and trying to give their best ever performance on the field. India have so far been undefeated in this tournament though they were almost beaten in the last game by New Zealand. England have had a below average tournament barring that single win against New Zealand in the first round. New Zealand on the other hand must be disappointed that they lost out of a final place though they pulled up their socks in the second league round.

The city to host the final of this series is going to be Wellington. The winner of the final is going to pocket $1,00,000 while the runner up pockets $50,000. An interesting fact to be noted is that the last time England and India faced off in the final of a tournament was that classic Natwest Trophy 2002 where India created history and chased a target of 325 to win the final and the trophy! Mohammed Kaif made a brilliant 87* to win the match for India (Natwest Trophy 2002 final! ). So going by history and form, India are the overwhelming favorites here and are expected to win this tournament after a not so impressive one day form.

England on the other hand are a side that lifts itself for the ultimate and gives it their best shot. They are led by a very astute and a thinking captain, Micheal Vaughan. They have a plethora of brilliant one day players like Trescothick, Flintoff, Pietersen, Strauss, Jones, etc who can rise to the occasion on any day and bring glory to their team. And they wont mind the underdog tag here in this final because it relives the pressure off them.

The pitch here is the centre of utmost attraction. The New Zealand cricket board has decided to have a beauty of a batting track for this final to attract viewership to this game and get good revenue. The wicket is flat with no tinge of grass on it and is expected to be a batting feast for both sides. However, since this is a Day/Night game, the side batting second would have a bit of a disadvantage with the ball moving around more in the Dark. So, win the toss and elect to bat first is going to be the mantra of both the captains.

SouravGanguly.jpg

Saurav Ganguly comes back to captain the side after serving a 6 match ban in ODI cricket. He takes over the mantle from Rahul Dravid who has had an unbeaten run in this series with 3 wins and a tie. Since Ganguly is back into the team, some one has to make way for him at the top of the order. Going by the current batting form of the top order batsman, it looks likely that Yuvraj Singh would be sitting out of this game to make way for Saurav Ganguly to bat as Sehwag, Kaif and Jadeja look in good touch. But the team management is also thinking to reverting back to the 7 batsmen - 4 bowlers formula for this single match to accomodate Ganguly along with the current batting line up! A problem to think about for the Indian think tank!

England on the other hand, have not decided on a playing XI for the final. They will be deciding it on the morning of the match based on the pitch and the weather conditions. The weather for tomorrow is again a bright sunny day with no cloud hangover. All the preparation for the final has been made by the ground authorities and the pitch is being watered for it to keep its hardness intact!

WE ARE ALL SET FOR THE FINAL MATCH! THE MATCH WILL START AT 12 NOON EST TOMORROW! The telecast will be brought to you live by Sky Sports England!
