i still predict a score of around 250-300

Sehwag & Dravid consolidate!

INDIA 214/3 - 35 OVERS
V.SEHWAG 36* (53)
R.DRAVID 39* (44)

Some superb cautious batting from the Nawab of Najafgarh, Virender Sehwag and the Karnataka Wall, Rahul Dravid. Both have built up a brilliant partnership and are going great guns. Sehwag in particular has not been his usual self today, building a partnership along with Rahul Dravid.

Considering the rate at which both are going, a total of 300+ certainly looks very much possible. That would place India in the most commanding position that they have ever been in this series. 300+ is definitely tough to chase in a Day/night game, however batting friendly the pitch might be.

Here are the projected totals for India

At 4 per over: 270
At 5 per over: 284
At 6 per over: 298
At 7 per over: 312
At 8 per over: 326

A total of 298 to 312 should prove challenging enough for England to chase although its not impossible but India would be eyeing a total between 312 to 326 to close the match on England. An interesting last 14 overs of the Indian innings to commence shortly.

Sehwag smashes hundred - India set target of 308

SEHWAG SMASHES HUNDRED - ENGLAND NEED 308 TO WIN!
V.SEHWAG 107

Virender Sehwag has smashed a hurricane hundred as India set an imposing target of 308 runs for England to win the final and the Adidas Trophy. Sehwag who scored his 50 off 61 balls took only 34 balls for his second 50 as England were left gasping. Sehwag did not play the lofted strokes until the 46th over of the innings but his powerful strokes bore their stamp and it was truly delightful to see him back at his amazing best.

India are all out of 307 from 48.5 overs. Sehwag was the last man out of the penultimate ball of the 49th over. Micheal Vaughan was the star performer for England, picking up 3 wickets whearas Kabir Ali picked up two wickets. After India were 214/3, Kabir Ali clean bowled Dravid for 60 with a yorker. Jadeja followed immediately two balls later when he fatally misjudged the bounce off the ball and left it only to see his bails dislodged. Jadeja was out for a duck. Dhoni was run out when he backed too far at the non striker's end and was run out. Then Micheal Vaughan, who introduced himself into the attack made merry as three Indian tail end batsmen were out in the same over. Kumble and Kartik were LBW when they tried to play the ball on the leg side to give Sehwag the strike for his century. Zaheer Khan tried to step down the track and loft Vaughan but missed it for Jones to stump him. Vaughan finished with 3/26.

The Indian scorecard looks more better with those 42 extras that England conceded in the early stages of the innings. Had they reduced it a bit, India would not have gone past 300.

Sehwag's innings was a wonderful one to watch. He scored most of his runs through covers. He hit 3 sixes in this innings, the highest by an Indian so far in a single innings in this series.

India are now rightly holding the advantage. England need 308 to win off 49 overs which is a very big ask. But they know that its not impossible. Had India got 15 to 20 more runs, the match would have been settled in India's favor. So, England need to put their heads down and say to themselves that this total is not impossible.

excellent score by india....come on india you can win the trophy

England 43/1 - Khan castles Jones for 6

Khan picks up the vital wicket of Jones - England 43/1 (8 overs)
M.Vaughan 20* (26)
M.Trescothick 14* (18)

A good start for India considering that England are not scoring at 6 runs per over needed for victory in this final. Zaheer Khan castled Jones for 6 when England were 13/0. Zaheer Khan himself was surprised to see the ball swinging so much to castle Jones on his off stump (I was really surprised to see swing with Sam's Run Out Exe! May be, some great work by Tutsi who might have introduced some swing in the Night for the bowlers!). It was a very vital wicket since Jones is a hard hitter and has been very successful in this series.

Vaughan played a few wonderful shots to try and keep the England run rate close to 6 runs per over but a few good overs from Khan and Nehra brought England down to 5.4 runs per over.

England in trouble - 80/3

England in trouble - 80/3 after 15 overs
M.Vaughan 28* (39)
A.Flintoff 7* (10)

It would not be wrong to say that India hold the remote control of this Adidas Cup final. With a superb display, India have picked up two more England wickets to push England further into trouble. The captaincy today by Ganguly to describe in one word "FANTASTIC!!!!". First to go was Marcus Trescothick for 21. Trescothick was trying to go over the top. Ganguly did not have the fine leg fielder for Trescothick. But then suddenly Ganguly (myself :D ) brought in a fine leg fielder and Zaheer Khan bowled a slower ball to Trescothick who was fooled and miscued it straight exactly to the same positioned fine leg fielder.

Next to go was Andrew Strauss. This time again, the handiwork of Saurav Ganguly who was also bowling this time. It was the third ball of the over and till then, Ganguly did not have a fielder at deep fine leg boundary. Ganguly immediately positioned Murali Kartik at deep fine leg boundary and bowled a reverse swinging delivery and as expected, Strauss provided a lolly pop catch into the hands of Murali Kartik at deep fine leg.

Vaughan and Flintoff are right now together in the middle fighting it out. Vaughan in particular is very impressive, hitting gorgeour boundaries and keeping up with the run rate. The run rate right now is 5.5+ and India are in the drivers seat. If England doesnt lift their run rate soon, they will be in deep trouble.
