West Indies in India Nov 2011/12

Was it a good move to recall Irfan in the Indian squad?

Actually few people was because at the same time Ganguly was playing in Ranji match in stadium next to Eden. The stadium was houseful there

See..... What did I tell you. Kolkata is mostly about their own stars. We know the ruckus they created when Ganguly was dropped from the side, the backing they gave to SA against India when Ganguly didnt play, etc. For them, India is secondary.

Yuvraj Singh dropped from the squad as Rohit Sharma is brought in.Nice move as Yuvi looks completely out of touch in Tests.
The Windies will probably be whitewashed 3-0 in this series.Other than Chanderpaul,Kirk Edwards and Darren Bravo there are no batsmen who can face the Indian spinners properly.

Well, its confirmed!! India will play a B team against West Indies which will be selected on 26th.

Indians depart for Australia on 7th or 8th December and still there will be 3 ODI's left.

My squad would be

Shikhar Dhawan
Murli Vijay/Dinesh Kartick
Yusuf Pathan
Yuvraj Singh
Suresh Raina
Parthiv Patel
Munaf Patel
Harbhajan Singh
Amit Mishra/Rahul Sharma
Ashish Nehra

For Number 6 position in Test, I think Pujara and Kohli will be flying to Australia.

I would never pick Murli Vijay or Dinesh Karthik. I rather pick Badrinath over both of them.

Shikhar Dhawan
Wriddhiman Saha (WK)
Subramaniam Badrinath
Suresh Raina (C)
Yuvraj Singh
Manoj Tiwary
Ravindra Jadeja
Harbhajan Singh
Munaf Patel
Ashish Nehra
RP Singh
Rahul Sharma
Sreesanth
Sreenath Arvind
Yusuf Pathan

The only confusion with this team is who will open the batting with Dhawan, as nobody else is an opener. Or we can sneak in Robin Utthappa?

My Squad for ODI's against WI for first 3 ODI's

Opener: Mukund, Rahane, Vijay/Dhawan
Middle-order: Kohli, Rohit, Yuvraj, Raina, Pathan
Wicket Keeper: Saha/Karthick/Parthiv
Spinner: Ashwin/Harbhajan, Rahul Sharma, R.Jadeja
Fast Bowler: Aaron, Vinay Kumar, Praveen Kumar, Yadav/R.P.Singh/Aravind/Mithun/Pathan

They can give chance to some youngsters like Manish Pandey, Mandeep Singh, Nayar. I would rest Umesh yadav as he looks to be our First choice bowler in Aus.
Irfan Pathan has taken 17 wickets at avg 12.2 in 3 Ranji games so he may be given chance.

I would pick Irfan for the Australia tests. He has the experience of playing in Australia before, and he would be an ideal 'left for left' replacement if Zaheer is unfit (which is unlikely but with Zaheer nothing can be said). For Australia, it would be: Zaheer, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron and Irfan Pathan (if Zaheer proves unfit, Sreesanth takes his place).

Irfan Pathan? I thought he was not allowed to play international cricket anymore on account of spending three years getting smashed around the park, taking no wickets, and bowling slower than the Namibia women's opening bowlers.

Seriously? A guy who has taken 39 wickets against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe at 11... and 61 wickets against everyone else at 45...

Move on, please for the love of God India, move on.

irfan for test matches never...
His records are much better in ODI. (130 wickets in 95 matches against top-nation).
So if he bowls well, then he will be first choice in ODI side whenever india goes overseas.

Well, specifically I was replying to Sai and his ridiculous suggestion to take Pathan to Australia for the Tests. The mind boggles.

However, just to say, even in ODI Cricket his last four seasons of international ODI Cricket saw him take 44 wickets in 43 games at somewhere around 45 with an Economy of around 6...

So, I'm curious, are people suggesting him as a batting all-rounder? Or in the last 2 years has he found what he did with 10mph of pace that seemed to dissapear from a bowler who wasn't fast to start with :)

Well, to be fair, when he started, he bowled fast enough as he more than compensated for it with his banana swing. He's one of the most tragic stories of Indian cricket and I shake my head in sadness every time I hear his name, thinking where he could be right now if he didn't fall off that cliff...

Yeah when he started he would bowl just a bit quicker than 80mph with ridiculous swing. Last time I saw him bowl he was bowling at about 70mph. I think someone like Collingwood was actually bowling quicker than him :/

Good point. Sod it, may as well just go with a bowling attack of Sach, Viri and Yuvi and play 11 batsmen.

In another 13 hours or so....the Mumbai test starts...Mark my words, the 100th hundred will come here only :thumbs
