West Indies tour of New Zealand

This is disgusting: Axed bowler tossed the baseball mitt - New Zealand's source for sport, rugby, cricket & league news on Stuff.co.nz

Firstly, what a waste of money getting 2 taxis from an to the same place at the same time. Unbelievable. Maybe their funding should be cut if they're throwing money away.

Secondly, Chris Martin flown all the way there to cover Franklin who's in no injury concern at all and keeping wicket? What kind of treatment is that for our best pace bowler. People wonder why the Astles, Flemings, McMillans, etc all quit before their time. He's our top wicket taking pace bowler this year. He should have been first paceman selected!

Thirdly, How getting out in the nets and missing deliveries? That's a disgrace. Why the hell is he still in the side if he can't even net well.

I have to say, i'm very concerned about the management and coaching of the NZ side at the moment. Seems like a step down from Bracewell and that's saying something.

Fulton is on standby for Taylor and Martin has joined the squad. Oram is out and will try be back for the T20's and ODIs and Franklin has a minor injury after being hit in the chest.

I was just reading the year's top wicket takers and NZers:
Vettori was 4th with 50 wickets at 25
Martin was 12th with 34 wickets at 31 (We just dropped him for some strange reason)
O'Brien at 14th with 31 wickets at 21
Mills at 18th with 26 wickets at 28 (Dropped in Australia but back now hopefully)
Oram at 30 with 17 wickets at 20.

That bowling attack seems to be able to select itself. So why do they keep fiddling with it.

Then you look at highest run getting batsmen and you go all the way down to 18 to find Taylor and 19 to get McCullum. 24th is Vettori which really sums up the fact that we have a decent bowling line-up which isn;t backed up by the batsmen. If we had better performing batsmen we could be a middle ranked team.

Iain O'Brien has really improved this year hasn't he, he would now have to be the first bowler after Vettori I would wan't to be in the NZ team.

Totally agree, his stats surprised me. I think even against the Aussies he was averaging around the 30.00 mark which is nice. He doesn't look threatening but he's a thinking bowler and probably bowls a bit quicker than he looks. Also bowls pretty accurately and gets just enough movement. I have to admit, I was wrong about him. When I first saw him play I said he was rubbish.

Looks like Taylor and Franklin will be fit, also Patel will play so I am going to assume Gillespie will miss out but you never know with our selectors.

im sick of the crap with the kiwis
ive been supporting them non stop
and they just put in crap performance after crap performance
can we just pick a bowling line up and stick with it
martin, o'brien, mills, vettori, patel
use 4 of them depending on the pitch
southee as back up paceman
how needs to put his head down and play within his capabilities
taylor needs to not try be hero and stop trying the slog sweep
mccullum needs to learn how to play a test innings
apart from that stick with the guys weve got
an let them develop

pitch looks like a belter
wouldnt be suprised if west indies make 500 - 600
gayle lookin good early

they taking some risky runs, I don't like it but they are going good. I think this might be the last chance for Chattergoon.

To think 500 runs must be insane, I guess this guy is just trying to jinks us :p.
Well good ball and Gayle is gone!!!
But I do agree with you Chatter.... needs to deliver, or he should be delivered. Time to give Simmons a run!!!

there goes Sarwan so yea he jinksed us. 500 would be a dream now. need a couple of 100s and someone to make 50 to even come close.

And I agree Simmons needs to be given a chance or bring back Ganga.

Marshall gone now, what a disaster. On a track where a big score is just waiting to get hit. O well time to rely on Chanders. If he goes early than WI are screwed.

NZ in total control here,3 wickets before the end of 1st session, for WI Chanderpaul is out there,he is very experienced player,he knows how to play...O'Brien has really bowled well this morning

What's Chattergoon doing with his 9 runs in 59 balls?

It doesn't like it's a batman's pitch, likes it's written in the preview.

Well if it was Kevin Pietersen on 9 from 59 (now 68), maybe you'd wonder, but it's not like Chattergoon is some great run scorer. Him just surviving that long might be a sign that it's good for batting.

Well, just after I read your message Chattergoon hit a four.

And two balls later Vettori gets him out. West Indies are at 74-4 and are in trouble.
