West Indies tour of New Zealand

NZ in a great position.

West Indies over-rate was absolutely disgusting. New Zealand bowled 1 over extra on the first day and Gayle falls well over 10 overs behind. Badlight is no excuse because he'd have had to bowl 25 in an hour last I saw.

Good to see a century by a batsman. Wasn't a fantastic innings but remember it's only his second game. That will do him a lot of good. WI can only blame themselves for being an absolute shambles in the field compared to NZ's faultless performance.

Vettori and Patel looked VERY dangerous. Hopefully we can bowl West Indies out for someting in the 200's and have about 150-200 to chase. 2 days left, there'll have to be some pretty bad weather for there to not be a result. Lucky they went off for Light because Marshall was looking very uncomfortable. Gayle and Chanderpaul partnership is really important for the West Indies.

About the referals. Vettori must love it, he's going to get heaps more wickets if those Sarwan ones are going to be given. He's been denied those for years, time and time again and now he's getting them. Fantastic! I'm loving it. (Even if I can't figure out why Mills was given and O'Brien wasn't in our first innings)

Good position for NZ but Gayle and chanderpaul are still there (well the latter will come out to bat). If Gayle was gone i'd say the kiwis are favourites but that isn't the case. Gayle needs to get a century. Its been too long.

The honours were shared today, as WI did well to bowl out the Kiwis for 371. Then they have made a decent start with their skipper looking in ominous touch. New Zealand would look to restrict the WI innings, so that they can chase down the target in the 4th innings.

Chanderpaul's Test average is finally over 50.

It amuses me when mediocre bowlers like Darren Powell sledge batsman. Deadset, how does he keep getting selected with an average almost touching 50 with the ball?

Indeed, who does Daren Powell think he is - a Test quality bowler?

Yes Chanderpaul is the best we have with the bat currently. And I agree, Powell's display out of frustration was pathetic.
By the way how are you dealing with the defeat by SA???
Oh sorry, off topic, my apologies

Meh. Unlike West Indies cricket, Australian cricket will recover.

It's such a shame Brian Lara retired. I used to love watching Glenn McGrath get him out very first ball. :D

Yes, a bizarre entity. Fidel Edwards on the other hand, starting to do his colours justice. His career average may be high, but since returning to the team last year he has bowled with serious venom. He can be expensive, but when it works, the wickets fall hard and fast, so why should change? His genuine pace, unusual action and proper fast bowler's mentality ensure that he can devastate practically any batting lineup.

He's the best batsman anyone has got currently.

Batsmen scoring 200+ in last 12 months

Batsmen scoring 400+ in last 2 years

Has only been dismissed 6 times for less than a 50 in the last 2 years.

Fidel would work superbly if he had capable support, bowling at great length when on song and slightly hidden when it is not going his way, but his statistics and confidence will always suffer as he will occasionally go 30 overs going at four or five an over when the ball isn't coming out of his hand correctly - it certainly is not an action which lends itself to consistent success; this being said, his whole action and approach of spinting in and slinging the ball is one liable to sheerly outpacing batsmen as the primed Shoaib once did.

Chanderpaul out first ball to a full toss! NZ on top now it is up to Gayle now to pull them out of this.

WI 130/4 ,lead by 66 runs with 6 wickets remaining,NZ on top right now...if they can strike 1-2 wickets quickly specially of Gayle (he is batting well out there),that will put more pressure on WI,as the danger man (Chanderpaul) was out cheaply,NZ still have to get through Gayle,Nash..

Unless Gayle gets 200, should be easy chasing for us. Just a matter of bowling patiently and tidily.

Good session for New Zealand, they picked up 2 quick wickets including an important one of Chanderpaul.

out of all the shots that Shiv could have gotten out to it had to be a full toss. O well the team cant always depend on him time for someone else to step up and score big.

Whats wrong with Franklin, he hasn't bowled at all.
