West Indies tour of New Zealand

i cant wait for the first test
i think that oram balances out the side
him at six is good coz he can be attackin or defensive
and he averages 18 with the ball in nz

not to mention franklin who can bat high aswell
his last 3 innings in domestic 219, 160, 65 or something like that
and him and vettori could do damage in the lower order

finally gillespie gets another chance
he is nz fastest and is at his peek
time for him to really step up

im predicting nz to win the first test
and jamie how finally to score a test century
and gillespie to get atleast 7 wickets in the match

you got high hopes man.

I'll say this at the risk of sounding like an idiot when the game is over, but I can't see us losing to the West Indies here. We're just played Australia and got pounded. Home advantage is a big thing for us plus we'll have in-form players.

Vettori will take a lot of wickets, he's got 23 from 7 games against them at a 27 average so in the past they haven't played him well and he's only improved and WI have lost Lara who was obviously a spin master. I hope Gillespie gets wickets but a few of the WI batsmen may enjoy the pace on the ball so he'll have to swing it. Oram's never played the West Indies before (amazingly)

I'm not so worried about our batting anymore. How plays like a beast on home soil and Taylor looked good in Australia. Ryder's close to maing his mark and McCullum was looking better in the last game against Australia.

in the batting department we should have the advantage. Gayle,Sarwan and Chanders are way better than anything New Zealand have to offer.
The pace bowling is close. New Zealand don't have that much experience, even the young WI bowlers have more experience than the NZ pace bowlers. The only reason I would give the advantage to NZ when it comes to bowling is Vettori, he will cause allot of trouble for the WI batsman.

In form batsmen? No New Zealand batsmen scored a hundred in any of the Tests in Australia. Fine, Brisbane was fairly hard to bat on but Adelaide is probably Australia's flatest track. Australia made New Zealand look ordinary. Whilst I do think some batsmen played ok, (Taylor, McCullum, Redmond in Adelaide) I think the pitches will be harder to bat on in New Zealand.

Obviously I'm not a good judge of NZ cricket though NZ didn't look great over here particuarly in Adelaide when they lost by an innings in which the average first score there is 400+, they made 270.

Well they're more used to batting on home soil. I'm trying to say the batsmen should have learned their lesson. The slower conditions will help. The pitches used for domestic games have all been belters.

When I say in-form i'm talking McCullum, Taylor and the guys we've added like McIntosh and Franklin.

WI side is probably better then ours, but just the home advantage should be enough. We bat really deep, if we can't get runs with 9 batsmen then I dunno when we ever will. Gayle hasn't scored big test runs in a while though he's always dangerous. Chanderpaul is one of the best batsmen in the game and i'm a big fan of Sarwan.

Weather not looking to good for the first two days :(

The key for me is Gayle, Chanderpaul and Sarwan they need to score runs and plenty of them I do think a lot of the other WI batsmen will struggle. I am not as worried about the NZ top order they always seem to do better at home. Huge series for How though he needs some big scores.

Well its make or break for How. NZ aren't as settled as they appear. Flynn is untested at 3, How hasn't made many runs,Mcintosh is making a debut (so the top 3 are a little thin), the middle order is a bit of an unknown quantity (usually hit and miss with players like Taylor and Ryder). The most important player for the middle order is 6 as they need stability. I don't know if Oram has been in any good form with the bat and Franklin perhaps is more of a dasher like Mccullum. There's a case for Vettori to be slotted in at 6. NZ bowling looks good to me but i feel Gillespie is a little too inaccurate to replace Martin despite Martin being down on pace.

The windies are little more settled in the batting as they've got three solid batters. Their bowling is also pretty good when on song but there's a fair bit of volatility and inaccuracy in the windies bowlers. Not much on the spin area so they're behind in the spin department. To me this is a vettori v Chanderpaul series. Whoever wins the team wins.

West Indies' preparations for the the first Test against New Zealand have been hit by poor weather. The team was greeted by chilly temperatures in Dunedin, and rain forced them to train indoors. Temperatures dipped to 10 degrees Celsius and steady rain fell for most of the day. Officials and weather forecasters have expressed doubts about conditions improving by Thursday.
Poor weather mars preparations

Test match starts (if at all weather permits) tomorrow, hope it dosent rain, there is another match tomorrow (Ind vs Eng,even there weather is clody and it might rain there),lets hope that we get to see full day cricket at both venues.

Iv been waiting for this test series for a long time and if it doesn't go tomorrow I'm going to be disapointed.

Mills has been called into the squad because of an injury scare to Oram. However they did say the chances of Oram playing are still 95%. Poor guy I can't see his career going for more than a few more years he is always getting injured and it will only get worse as he gets a bit older.

It will be a huge loss for NZ if he cant play. Why call up Mills and not another batsman? What would the do, move Vettori to 6?

If Mills played I think they would move McCullum to 6 and Franklin to 7

Mills can bat, he has a FC average of 27 and I think occasionally bats at 6 for Auckland.

We could move Franklin up to 6, keeping McCullum at 7 and Vettori at 8...
