West Indies tour of New Zealand

Lies. Picking a player solely on the weight of 5 matches is as risky as any selection.

It's not based on 5 games. He performed just as strongly in the last half of last year's domestic competition. He averaged 42.23 overall and had a better record than Redmond. Bell was better than both in both years so i'm not sure why he didn't get the nod. I would have picked him personally but McIntosh being a left-hander and a new guy is exciting. Left Handed openers are really good to have.

I really don't know what to expect from this series. I hope for the best from the West Indies but we might be in trouble with not that many experienced players in the squad. We brought 2 young fast bowlers for the test series and both are playing in the warm up matches but when the 1st test comes Powell will be in there alongside Fidel and Taylor.
Apart from Shiv,Gayle and Sarwan out batting looks suspect. Of course Shiv makes the biggest difference between the 2 teams but we cant just keep counting on him to get us big scores. Someone else will have to step up and it will have to be one of the newcomers. Because we don't have Bravo in the team I would have liked for Pollard to be included, he looks like the closest player we have to Bravos abilities with both bat and ball.

I would like this to be our XI for the 1st test.

Gayle
Chattergoon
Sarwan
Marshall
Chanderpaul
Brendan Nash
Ramdin
Ben
Taylor
Baker/Roach ( but it will be Powell)
Edwards

If Ramdin fails on this tour than its time for him to be remowed from the team for a few years. Next guy in line should be Fletcher.

He was averaging 27 until the second last game of last season. He scored 3 big ones in 5 games and bam! A mediocre player becomes a sure thing.

I wholeheartedly agree that Matthew Bell is getting the short straw here, it was fairly harsh to be dropped when he was and hasn't done anything wrong since. He's long been seen as a talent in NZ cricket, but he's never been given much time to put together scores. I've said before, the chopping and changing will not develop a team. If you're always dropping a guy who has had two or three bad games, you'll be continually running through players.

I'll pay that it's somewhat interesting because he's untried, but I would reserve excitement for someone like Neil Broom or Trent Boult.

WI giving good fight here, they are 82/0 in 31 overs, just 1day remaining now, lets see how they bat tomorrow.

Dare: You know as well as I do that WI rewards failure, so with Ramdin in mind even if he fails "again" he has nothing to fair, I mean how much more can be done when the guy is made VC for the ODI and Twenty20? Both his domestic and international 20/20 records are just as poor as his test and ODI records. Yes I would have love to at least have Fletcher on this tour which would remind him that he Ramdin is not alone, instead we got Baugh, and being from JA, you know he is one of the boys.
Our batting as always relies on Chanderpaul, follow by Sars, Gayle on his day will make tears come form the opposition's eye, but just the same he can be gone in a sniff, his opening partner Chatter.... like some Guyanese lacks strength, thus he is laid back and never seems to go from first gear, and I suspect not even if his life depended on it he would bat with some attitude, so he is one that depends on placement and don't have the power, if the fielding is good it builds pressure on him and he cracks, however I will be fair to the lad since he has only played 2 test matches and I honestly rather we fail with him than a season player like Devon Smith.

Moving on, the middle order will surely miss Bravo, any team would, but I believe that the X man could come good, he showed he has the potential against Australia, his 4 innings got him a total of 182 runs, with 2 half centuries, so he can bat.

Nash I am putting some faith in, he played some first class cricket in Australia, in fact that's where he started playing cricket, so I do hope he can bring something to the middle, with both bat and ball.
Benn honestly would not be my first choice, but that's what we have so what can I say, but at 6-8 a spin bowler?? Just damn lazy if you ask me, we know that our quicks can fire, and Fidel, Taylor and company will have some fun, I still believe it was a mistake not to take Edwards along on that 3 ODI series, it would have given him some much needed practice.

I still believe that they should have gone up with D. Ganga, he has toured NZ before, he has the experience, and have led Trinidad to every regional title for the last couple of seasons. That is another story.
I believe that your 11 is the obvious choice, and of course Powell will play in that 11.

You would have to think this would be Jamie How's last chance here, if he fails to make any runs. In his last seven tests he has averaged only 23.85 which is the same as Aaron Redmond.

come to think of it Gayle is due for a big score. He hasnt scored a century since his 317 against South Africa in 2005, Im not saying his spot is in danger but a century from him would be great.

i hope mills can take some wickets
if he gets back in the team we would have the best 8,9,10 in the world
vettori, franklin, mills
and someone like southee or gillespie at 11 who are half decent bats
but he just isnt takin wickets atm

i like the team
except redmond may be unlucky
but i cant wait for it to start
im more excited about this series than the aus one
weve actually got a chance :D

Gillespie can't bat, he's just very lucky. Southee can hit big.

He is good for about 20 runs worth of french cuts.

I can't see Mills getting back into the test side anytime soon on a batting friendly pitch he is no good. Martin and Southee would be in front of him for a test return.

West Indians played well, normally it takes time for any team to settle and adjust to pitch and climatic conditions,WI scored 431/7 thanks to Sarwan...The series will be very evenly balanced,of both teams play to potential...looking forward to it..

My only concern with Nash is that he didn't have any success in the ODIs in Canada and against Pakistan. But I hope that he can put his foot down and make some good scores if he plays in the 1st test.
It does suck that there is only one guy from T&T even tho they are probably the top side in the Caribbean. I'm not that big on Ganga but like you said he does have experience against NZ, I just cant wait for Barath to get his chance to play at the top level.

Also I cant believe that they selected Nikita Miller for the ODI series. This guy just doesn't cut it for me, at least not in the short form of the game.

i cant wait for the first test
i think that oram balances out the side
him at six is good coz he can be attackin or defensive
and he averages 18 with the ball in nz

not to mention franklin who can bat high aswell
his last 3 innings in domestic 219, 160, 65 or something like that
and him and vettori could do damage in the lower order

finally gillespie gets another chance
he is nz fastest and is at his peek
time for him to really step up

im predicting nz to win the first test
and jamie how finally to score a test century
and gillespie to get atleast 7 wickets in the match
