What games have you been playing recently?

OK, so I think I'm far enough into the game (maybe a quarter to halfway) for me to properly judge Far Cry 3, and it is quite possibly the best game I've played this console generation. The open world in this game is just killer. I've played open world games before, but games like LA Noire, Red Dead Redemption and Assassin's Creed just can't match it in this aspect. I think it's the first person angle that makes it so superb. Graphics are stunning too. It is so damn fun too.

The mission where you are lighting fire to Vaas' marijuana fields just typifies why the missions are great too, so much freedom to do what you want, with some pure destruction and some great gunfights. I don't often notice music in gunfights, but the reggae playing in the background is a brilliant touch and made the mission for me. Outstanding.

Thinking of picking up one of Dishonoured, Max Payne 3 and Hitman: Absolution. Any pointers?

Also about time I play Heavy Rain, been putting it off ever since it came out!

I find it interesting that you think the characters are average. I think this is one of the best games I've ever played for developing characters. What I usually find with video games is that the characters are often one dimensional and there's not much realism to them. Jason Brody's transformation is excellent.

Do the wildlife attack and eat each other, and are there sharks? :D

Yes to both.

I saw komodo dragons chasing some deer, and tigers and leopards hunting buffalo.

The place is crawling with sharks. Name a cool animal and it's likely to be in there. Cassowary, shark, goat, deer, crocodile, Galapagos tortoise, bear, it goes on.

On the topic of crocodiles... Was casually having a swim through in the crystal clear waters, then a friggin croc comes and attacks me from behind and I almost shat myself:lol. Scary as hell and made my heart pound.

Saw a video for a Jurassic park half-life 2 mod

and it made me think it'd probably be better suited to far cry 3

Hitman: Absolution. Any pointers?

Was really looking forward to this game, but read a lot of reviews online and it got pretty crap ratings

Put me off for now, may still get it on the cheap at some point but from what I read looks like it will be a bit of a disappointment

Hitman Absolution is supposed to be pretty good. Always gonna have haters though due to it's following.

Dishonoured would be a better bet I think. Critically acclaimed to a far higher degree and sits as one of the stand out games of the year.

@DrPee ... :p

I have done precisely 11 story missions so far... have spent my whole time liberating, hunting and killing. Which to be fair all kind of amounts to just killing. Certainly the characters have got a lot of room for development, I'd say a couple of the supporting cast have been interesting so far.

What initially made me say it was average/cack is the handbook which seems like it was written by me when I was about 15. The memory cards however have turned that around and are much more intelligently constructed.

I would definitely agree that the transformation from college guy to gun expert and madman that I'm currently playing out has been a little drastic :p Can't argue with the power of the 'tat' though.

@TheDon... I may or may not also have shat myself when the same thing happened to me haha Gotta agree on the world. Just working my way to an outpost is always great fun. Trying to find the best vantage point, tag everyone, then the incredibly satisfying "undetected" bonus. That said, it's also amazing when it all goes wrong, and suddenly everything just escalates. Only last night I was watching a base for a bit, when suddenly they were attacked by a tiger. It killed a few of them, whilst I silently sniped anyone that had been isolated. Simply put, the game is great fun.

That weed mission was copied straight out of San Andreas, just with the addition of Damien Marley. :p

Have never played a GTA game:spy.

Just hunted the rare black panther and my god that's the hardest thing in the game so far, using arrows to hunt that thing is nigh on impossible. Almost had it once, I was near the water, and I drowned it, but then it disappeared so I couldn't skin it so I had to restart! Then finally I found a rocky outcrop to stand on and shoot away, and finally got it. Took me at least half an hour to an hour, and something like 30-40 arrows the time I managed to do it.

Certainly not looking forward to hunting the rare great man-eating shark and the rare undying bear!

^ you should wait and level up your pouches and skills so you can store more deadly hunter syringes with that its pretty easy

I used about 5 of those:p.

The arrow is bloody hard to use at long range, so you have to get close. Once you get close, it starts chasing you if you get close, and then I begin to ---- myself when he runs after me...

Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64 on an N64 emulator. Anything to avoid revision. :p
