What games have you been playing recently?

Yep i'm sure you're right, I haven't played any of them, I didn't mean to be disparaging about the game as it actually does sound really good, I just think that it isn't really feasible for a game to have much of an impact now.

Well, one thing it is going to do is reignite the interest in the space genre. That has been dead for years now, but Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen have bought it back to life. :)

I hope it leads to a remake of the X-Wing games - that would be simply amazing!

to an extent the mass effect series has done that too. the space exploration element is fairly minor, but it's there.

To be precise, I should've said 'space sim genre'. Speaking of Mass Effect, I can eventually see life aboard an Elite ship being a bit like life aboard the Normandy - provided the ship type is big enough. :)

The possibilities are literally endless. :D

Good news: likelihood of a brand new engine for Fifa in 2014 (and not before time). Bad news? The possibility of another round of recycled Fifa PS3 ports for the PC because some twat at EA decides that 'only 10% of PCs can handle the 'NG' engine'. :rolleyes

Far Cry 3. Only a short way in, but a lot of fun so far. Story, characters and missions all seem pretty average/cack so far, but the gameplay and sandbox nature mean I don't really care.

Oh and the gaming industry is in fantastic shape and coming off the back of one of the most diverse and interesting years ever. It's just the actual internet is full of people who do nothing but moan about anything that isn't a COD clone, whilst textually involved in a war with the people who do nothing but moan that everything is a COD clone.

If you want to see the most recent games to change the gaming landscape, you'll unfortunately have to look at the likes of Farmville. Put games into the hands of the casual masses and higlighted with a laser sight the potential profit in micro-transactions.

The Sonic CD XBLA port is surprisingly very good. CD's JP soundtrack is fantastic. :D

Just finished the Homicide Desk in LA Noire and I'm getting a bit bored of it, feels very repetitive. The Homicide Desk itself is intentionally just the same case five times. I didn't enjoy the Homicide Desk much, maybe it's because I didn't like my partner, but hopefully the cases become more varied as the game goes on.

It's getting really tough though, I'm actually getting more questions wrong than right now, back on the Traffic Desk you could just wait to see how they react after answering a question and it was an easy decision to make. Now you actually have to listen closely to their stories:p.

I've also got AC III and Far Cry 3, wondering which to play first haha...

Finished LA Noire, and it certainly isn't repetitive towards the end. The repetitiveness isn't a bad thing if you're spacing it out over a long period of time, but it can drag if you like to finish single player games quickly like me.

But it's an absolutely beautiful game and highly recommended. Replay value as well, I'll be going back in a few months for sure.

Started Far Cry 3 and it is AWESOME. How many hours of gameplay does it have roughly? And is the co-op any good?

I'm excited really, about the closest you'll ever get to a game set in NZ, what with almost everyone on the island speaking with a heavy NZ accent, and with that gun shop lady from the start greeting you in Maori haha.

@PD: I agree the missions are average from the few I've played so far, story and characters seem fine though. Regardless, the game is far from boring, and none of these aspects harm the experience at all.

Haven't had a chance to try out the co-op yet. Will hopefully give it a bash either this or the next weekend. Gameplay hours? No idea either really. I've put a lot of hours in so far, but all I've been doing is stalking animals and outposts :p

PS3 for this.

Add BunDerJay and we might be able to get involved with some co-op if the latency doesn't prove too far ;)

I played some offline co-op and it's really disappointing. It's basically a crappy fps with characters who no one cares about. There's no open world aspect to it. And it's really short.

It doesn't matter though cause the single player campaign is so damn good.

I'm on PS3 as well, my PSN is Mani-the-best (yeah, i know... :p)

That's a shame I suppose that the co-op is awful, we could still give it a whirl though. I do quite like the guns and shooting mechanics in the multiplayer so if it's basically similar to that, fun but unspectacular, it should still be a good distraction every now and then.

Latency should be fine, it will lag but nothing unplayable, I've played guys in the UK on FIFA flawlessly.

I find it interesting that you think the characters are average. I think this is one of the best games I've ever played for developing characters. What I usually find with video games is that the characters are often one dimensional and there's not much realism to them. Jason Brody's transformation is excellent.
