probably because in cricket there is no equivalent to a football manager.

internationally, you have the selection committee for personnel decisions, coach for training and pre-game tactics, and captain for in-game tactical decisions, whereas in football that'd all be one person.

domestically, you might not have a selection committee, and head coach is more in charge if recruitment, but also there is not so much of a transfer market... and again, you've got a pre-game/in-game tactical split which is not there in football.

i think the best decision big ant made was taking the "manager" element out of career mode and making it a be a pro. instantly they went from having something that even executed well could only be meh and ended up with something genuinely groundbreaking and exciting - for the first time in a cricket game, losing your wicket or bowling a terrible spell will actually mean something!

more on topic, i'd throw in my support (again) for rugby union. decent sized market, world cup coming up, got a decent base in RLL, it seems perfectly teed up for that.

if they did both 15s and 7s in the game, it'd be perfect, especially with 7s about to enter the olympics.

i came to the forum late, after the decision was made. i remember reading there was career mode, thinking "amazing!", reading ross' post where he said it's not be a pro it's more manager and thinking "bloody hell, such a wasted opportunity" then reading on and finding the post where he said after trying the manager they decided on be a pro, and thinking "hallelujah!". it's lucky i read it all in one day, as if i had been a member when he said it wasn't be a pro i'd have probably said something that got me banned.

even if ashes really did have "all that and more, except career mode", i'd be buying the game with career mode.

My favorite sports are Cricket and Boxing and EA stop making both .

Sorry, getting to this thread late. If anything, there is a big need for a PROPER rugby union game. Please don't mention rugby challenge 2 - its an embarrassing piece of crap. I mean a PROPER rugby game with every little tidbit that makes that game beautiful, being modelled correctly especially forward play, scrums, rucks/mauls, and especially passing. If you play RC2, you'll see a prop do a pinpoint 50m cross field pass from one wing to a prop on the other wing and back. Also something that incorporates Rugby 7s.

Another exellent game would be field hockey (from the original post) - I still play this game and absolutely love it. Its so fast and difficult to score (which usually makes it better).
