Will Australia play tests in India this year (2010)?

I cant see why Australia wont accept tests. I have heard Ponting voice opinion against the '7 ODI's culture that has become popular between the two countries. And Aussies would love for another quick crack at beating India in India in a test series. And I am quite sure that the Aussies wont ever consider themselves so down on the rating when they are facing up against India (although India is very strong in India, they are going to be up against Aussies who always have that aura about them).

Sounds great, just one thing. Can it be 3 matches?

Two match series are unsatisfying to begin with, its just a hell of a lot worse when it finishes 1-1 !!!!!!

I think two Test series should be banned, they are the ultimate insult to Tests and generally only played when facing Bangladesh or Zimbabwe. But money talks these days and obviously the boards (of India in particular) feel more ODIs is the way to go. Two Tests isn't enough, just as seven ODIs is overkill and proves nothing that five ODIs wouldn't.

Tours should be standard 3-4 Tests and 3-4 ODIs, maybe five ODIs at a push. If they must play T20 then a couple should suffice :D

Or my suggested alternative is that we abandon ODI series and play more ODI tournaments instead with some kind of meaning. This would make ODIs more meaningful, tours less congested and the frequency of ODI tournaments can be increased or decreased.

Currently it will be miracle if this tour even goes ahead due to security concerns.

2 test series are just so useless, come on this is not Bangladesh vs. Zimbabwe.

If Australia tour India this year for only 2 tests then what happens in 2012? Will Australia tour India again? If yes, then how many tests will they play? These hastily organized tours are making the calendar quite messy.

IMO this late tour announcement is just plain stupid because Australia and India already have the BG series which includes 4 Tests.

Yup absolutely and it will mean that these 2 teams will have to fight for the trophy thrice in just couple of years time.

It doesnt necessarily have to mean they are playing for the trophy. It might some other random commercial trophy.

That's not gonna make any difference.

Let's say Reliance will sponsor the series but they will still be playing for the BG trophy. It will just be called Reliance Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

I can. They'll be forced into a very early season Test season against the number one side with short notice when they've spent all their strategic planning time preparing for the Ashes. On paper it makes sense for the good of cricket and all that jazz, but I don't think Australia would feel they will do the series justice, particularly if it were only 2 Tests. A 7 ODI series is much easier to prepare for and there is much less weight riding on it. It would be a bit sad as I love Test cricket more than anything, but it makes a lot more sense from the Aussie perspective to prefer the ODIs.

Nah, they don't have to play for the BG Trophy.

In 2005, the 5 ODI series between Australia and NZ wasn't played for the CH Trophy.

Brilliant. Would much prefer that to 7 mindless ODIs. And I get to see Tendulkar against us one last time!

Tendulkar will be there in Australia in 2011 (next year), most likely. He doesnt show any signs of quitting, and also he said that he will play until he enjoys the game and until his body doesnt retaliate.
