Sri Lanka continue run of fine form with victory in ODI match.
Michael Hussey was awarded MOTM for his 105
Sri Lanka got their year off to an even beter start as they showed that the series win against the World XI wasnt a fluke but they did have the skill to see them off in the shorter format. Mahela Jaywardene is turning himself into a very decent all rounder as once again he took wickets and scored runs. The Sri Lankans went into this match knowing Vaas was carrying an injury and they would use if him if they werent doing very well but it backfired as he was the one that was quite expensive. 2 overs 0 for 18.
Lasith Malinga picked up 3 wickets
The World XI got off to the worst possible start when Gilly when Malinga bowled him off his first ball. It didnt get much better for the World XI as Michael Clarke and Kevin Pietersen both went cheaply aswel. Clarke attempting a second run but the throw from Vaas was accurate and Clarke was run out, Kevin Pietersen then went as he tried to drive Malinga only suceeding in edging into the hands at 1st Slip of Kumar Sangakarra. Gibbs and Gayle then put on a re building act as they put on 44 from 40 balls rotating the strike and finding the gap when needed. Mr Cricket himself scored a hundred as his average is ever increasing. Lasith Malinga although expensive was the pick of the bowlers even though he was a bit expensive. Mahela Jaywardene also picked up 2 wickets with his ever improving niggly medium pacers.

Russel Arnold produced a quick fire 50 to take Sri Lanka over the line
The Sri Lankan innings got off to nearly as worst start both their batsmen were dismissed for 2 runs each. Jaysuria top edging a hook and Gilchrist took a good catch and Herschelle Gibbs then took a stunner as backward point as Upal Tharanga had to walk back to the pavillion early. 2down and only 18 runs on the board it was up to two batsmen to repair the innings and get it back on track, Sri Lankans to best batsmen did just this as they shared a partnership of 106 taking Sri Lanak from 2/18 to 4/189. Rusell Arnold then produced a quick fire 57 from 44 balls. Sri Lanka reaching their target with a little over 4 overs remaining.
So to sum up;

World XI hammer Sri Lanka to level the One Days with T20 to come.
Sri Lanka have taken an absolute hammering here in Kandy. Shane Bond producing figures of 4-19 off 6 overs as Sri Lanka were bowled out after just 23 overs. Man of the Match deservedly was awarded to Bond after these figures helping bowl Sri Lanka out for just 88.
Michael Hussey was the highest scorer in the match with 67
The World XI produced a fine innings as they scored 247 off there 50 overs. Surprisingly the highest score was 67 but 2 other players made 50 aswell. The two Aussie openers put on 124 before Gilly fell to skipper Jaywardene who picked up 3-46 from his ten overs. The most economical bowler was Dilhara Fernando picking up 1-33 from 9 overs.

Sri Lanka started their innings well with both Jayasuriya and Tharanga making steady progress. They made 14 before Gilchrist caught Jaysuriya attempting a hook. Jaywardene looked in good form but fell for 23 when Colly took a simple catch at cover. Sri Lanka went from 30/3 to 88/10 as the tail failed to wag (sp?). The main bowling damage was done by Bond with his 4 wickets. The scalps he claimed were Tharanga, Arnold, Vaas and Maharoof.
