Given the frequency of terror strikes in both India and Pakistan and the unstable political situation in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, there is a possibility of the International Cricket Council (ICC) seriously considering a proposal to shift the 2011 cricket World Cup to Australia and New Zealand.

ICC can still review the situation, they have 3-6 months in hand before they really change the host country, because ICC should atleast give 18 months,to prepare grounds (if they change to Aus,because India is getting ready for it,many grounds have been renovated),there are many other factors related to it...Lets see...

World Cup '11 under cloud?

Continuous terror attacks in the sub-continent has cast a shadow over the 2011 Cricket World Cup to be jointly hosted by India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh with the International Cricket Council (ICC) contemplating of keeping a stand-by venue for the mega-event.

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, the ICC is expected to discuss the issue in its Executive Council meeting in South Africa next week.

The report also stated that if the ICC decides to shift the event, Australia and New Zealand, the co-host in 2015, are the prime contenders for staging the tournament.

Cricket Australia has already started endorsing the idea with chief executive James Sutherland saying safety and security issues surrounding the 2011 World Cup were "bound to come up" in the ICC meeting.

"It hasn't been talked about but that may well have changed out of this Mumbai incident but one would hope the World Cup and other events that are planned for various places in the sub-continent can go ahead as planned," he said.

"But there will be plenty of things that will need to be planned in the fullness of time." Sutherland said he did not know if another country had already been put on standby for the 2011 tournament, and was non-committal when asked if Australia would have enough time to prepare for the event if handed over.

"I don't know the answer to that. It's something that down the track would need to be looked at, but we are very keen for it to go ahead where it has already been allocated.

Even I heard about this topic. There will be a meeting next week in Dubai to decide who would host of the 2011 World Cup.

if its not South Asia then it will be Australia and Nz, because they were on the line next to host it, and the order/pattern says the next one should be in Australia ...
hope not. i want it in South Asia, plus its about 3 years away, whats the big deal!

I heard its like every 3rd WC should be in Indian Sub-Continent like after 96,99 was in England,2003 was SA,07 WI,2011 India,2015 England, then Aus,but it now seems they are forced to change it...

Well that's certainly what the all powerful BCCI wants to happen. Australia was meant to host the 2015 World Cup (not England, they had the one after it), but certainly if there are going to be serious security concerns then swapping would be appropriate. India and Pakistan seem to be very unsafe places at the moment, and while 2011 is a couple of years away still, decent notice will need to be given.

Ya there is some time, like Nikhil said (thread starter) they (ICC) can still review or they can take decision after 5-6 months, there is some time..Lets see...

Oh no!!!All my plans for the 2011 WC would be ruined!!!!!This all due to ********

i dont think BCCI would let the change of destination happen.

Damn I will be in Bangladesh in 2011, I thought I could have watched some matches live but these bloody terrorists finished everything.

I too think that the BCCI will be able to convince the World Cup to stay in South Asia. For starters, you will have the 4 Asian test nations voting to keep it in Asia. I can see South Africa, England, West Indies, New Zealand and Australia voting against, but I think Zimbabwe will vote with Asia. So it would be a 5-5 stalemate.

This is a little early to make the decision, although if it gets shifted, hopefully it will just get swapped, with Asia getting the 2015 rights.

Aussies winning unprecedented fourth consecutive World Cup at the MCG infront of a crowd of 100 000, yeah I like the sound of that. :D

Who knows India might win WC,Indian team is really doing well
