A brilliant maiden ODI century for Peter Handscomb saw the Australians trudge their way to 249. Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar made light work of Australia's top and middle order, with only Handscomb making it past 20. He would finally find an ally in Matthew Wade who has returned to the ODI team after being dropped for the South African ODI's in preference for Alex Carey. However he took his chance helping Australia rebuild from 5/95 to 6/226 when Wade was finally dismissed for 58. A tricky pitch, made look easy by Handscomb, but India certainly favourites going into the 2nd innings.

It should go without saying, India are always favourites when this man is involved in a run chase. Hazlewood and Starc's return to international cricket meant nothing to this man, as he plundered the Aussies all around Sydney to easily chase down the target. 126 off 130 for King Kohli proving again he is the best in the world in a run chase. Australia's star bowlers were able to claim wickets on their return, but it simply wasn't enough as Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni provided more than enough support to Kohli to see this chase home comfortably. India claim the first match of the ODI series as we head to Adelaide.

Peter Handscomb's golden summer continues into the ODI scene, with his 2nd ODI century following just 1 match after his first. However this time it wasn't a lone hand, despite another top order collapse from Australia. Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell would also chip in with quickfire half centuries to push Australia to a big score of 342/7. Mohammed Shami would be the pick of the bowlers with his 3/48, while it was a nightmare debut for Mohammed Siraj, who despite getting his first ODI wicket, went for a mammoth 97 runs in his 10 overs.

India made Australia sweat, but the run chase was simply too big, as Jason Behrendorff lead the Australia attack to a series levelling performance. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan got the Indians off to a flier, and it looked like India were in the box seat to pull off another run chase. But India would lose wickets at regular intervals, making it difficult for them to up the run rate to where it needed to be. With Kohli and Dhoni back in the sheds and 120 runs needed, Australia were able to put the clamps on as Rayudu and Jadeja simply couldn't score fast enough against the disciplined Australian attack. The series is levelled at 1-1 as we head for the finale of the Indian tour in Melbourne.

Toss won by: India

The final match of this Indian tour took us to Melbourne for the series decider of the ODI leg. India would make 3 changes to their XI with Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and Ambati Rayudu all making way. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kedar Jadhav were added to lineup, with Vijay Shankar also being brought in for his ODI debut. For the Aussies it was just the 2 changes as Alex Carey would replace Usman Khawaja to bat at 3, while Nathan Lyon got the call up for his first ODI since August 2016.

Virat Kohli would win the toss and elect to bat as India looked to close out a clean sweep of all 3 series down under.

The Australians were absolutely ruthless as they bowled the Indians out for just 148. The big left armers, Behrendorff and Starc, with 3 wickets each leading the charge, with Hazlewood, Short and Lyon all picking up solitary wickets. Glenn Maxwell had the highlight of the day with a brilliant direct hit run out of the boundary to dismiss debutant Vijay Shankar, capping off a remarkable performance by the Australians. At one point the Indians were 1/75, but after the fall of Kohli, India would proceed to lose their next 8 wickets for just 73 runs. A miracle needed here by the Indian bowlers if they are to clean sweep the tour.

Australia never even gave India a sniff in the run chase. D'Arcy Short and skipper Aaron Finch finally got starts together as they got Australia to 56 within the powerplay, all but putting India out of the game. Alex Carey would take his chance at 3 to make an unbeaten 38 and he was joined by Marcus Stoinis who would be unbeaten on 35 as he hit the winning runs. Shami the pick of the Indian bowlers, but it meant little as there just weren't enough runs on the board to defend.

Peter Handscomb couldn't go on with his form after making 2 tons in a row, falling for just 1. But it didn't stop him from being award player of the series, as Australia claimed the ODI series 2-1 and avoided the embarrassment of not winning a single series on India's tour.
