This is the perfect example of poor management. Australia are 2-0 down, and most of their changes are media driven pressure changes, with little or no logic. They're partially struggling because of constant chopping and changing. I don't understand Warner batting at 6 at all. He's a game changer and if he bats three hours for two tests, England will be thinking of saving the urn rather than whitewashing Australia. The person who shouldn't be anywhere near the top order, is Watson. They need to bat him at 6, or drop him. I just saw the first 10 overs.. He just doesn't learn. Balls that HAVE TO be left, HAVE TO be left. As an opener, you set the tone for your team, specially when you bat first. Watson has two ways of playing:
a) Either, he throws his hands at the ball, sometimes at deliveries that would we wided in tests. I just saw him swish at least thrice, and he just about survived. OR,
b) He simply plonks his front pad forward, with the bat well hidden behind, making him a prime lbw candidate.
In my opinion, he just doesn't have the technique to open. MOST IMPORTANTLY, unlike a lot of flawed test batsmen, he simply doesn't learn from his mistakes and lacks mental fortitude. Classic T20 specialist with immense potential, but a lot left to be desired in tests. He has to be in the side, but he just doesn't have to open in my book.
There are lots of others, that the Aussies have chopped and changed:
1) Ed Cowan- Opened all test matches and suddenly had to vacate for Rogers.
2) Nathan Lyon- Touted as their answer to Swann, but they went for Agar, and now have reverted back to him. Doesn't impart confidence to either.
3) Matthew Wade- The only other guy bar Clarke to get a ton this year, and he played right till the Ashes.
BIZZARE and absurd management from the Aussies, to say the least. I do rate Michael Clarke as a very prudent captain when it comes to tactics, but he's as horrid as it gets when it comes to man management, role allotment and giving confidence to his chaps. Poor!
